The How to Do Marketing Show
How to make your marketing documents more accessible
Did you know that in Australia, over 13 million people have one or more chronic (long-term) eye conditions? And that over 575,000 are blind or vision impaired in Australia alone. I certainly didn’t. And I’m embarrassed to admit that until I met Katherine Collins, a graphic designer that specialises in creating accessible documents, I had never really spared a thought about the importance of making marketing material more accessible. In this episode, Katherine talks about what document accessibility is and how we can all start to make our communications more inclusive. If you are interested in checking out the Website Content Accessibility Guidelines – you can see them here: https://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG21/ Also, if you want to make your Word docs more accessible, if you are using a Mac, you will see a big button that says ‘Check Accessibility’ in the tool bar in when you are in the ‘Review’ tab. If you’d like to find out more about Katherine’s business; KC and the Graphics Bandwagon, visit: kcandthegraphicsbandwagon.com.au/ (you can also sign up for her fab newsletter here too.) If you’d like to connect with Katherine on LinkedIn – you’ll find her here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kathryn-collins-4375a516/

They simply don’t feel like they have the time or the resources to keep up. Well, we can’t add extra hours into the day, but we can save the amount of time it’s taking you to create this content by sharing the very system that we use to manage the content marketing, for our business as well as our clients. Our seven step content marketing system ensures that we work with epic efficiency while achieve maximum results.

The How to Do Marketing Show
What is a Certified Practising Marketer and why should you care?
It seems that these days, just about everybody is a marketer.  It’s a broad term and there seems to be a hell of a lot of people who are NOT a marketer, claiming to be one. #justsayin No wonder it’s confusing for small business owners to know who to listen to, which advice they should follow and who does what in the world of marketing.  So, when it comes to marketing, how do you sort the wheat from the chaff? Well, one of the ways you can tell a professional marketer is by looking for the Certified Practicing Marketer (CPM) certification. The CPM designation is the only peak professional benchmark of its kind for Marketers in the Asia-Pacific Region and the title officially recognises both formal education and the successful application of a marketers marketing knowledge and skills in practise. Kristie and I both tied as Certified Practicing Marketer of the Year in 2021 at the Australian Marketing Institutes Awards for Marketing Excellence. And in this episode, we get together to shoot the breeze about the marketing industry and what best practice really looks like when it comes to marketing. If you’d like to find out more about Wink, visit: thinkwink.com.au If you’d like to connect with Kristy on LinkedIn – you’ll find her here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kristieatkins/ And if you are curious to find out more about what a Certified Practising Marketer is or how to become one, you can find more information here: https://ami.org.au/cpm/

How a brand refresh has re-energised Kids Heart Pilates marketing
In the third and final episode in our three-part series on branding, rather than speak with the branding experts, I speak to a fabulous small business owner who recently refreshed her brand. Liz Dawson is an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP), Pilates instructor and owner and director of two businesses; Kids Heart Pilates & Northside Allied Health. I worked with Liz in early 2021 by creating a marketing strategy and plan for both of her businesses.  In the marketing strategy, I had suggested that the existing branding that Liz had in place for Kids Heart Pilates didn’t seem to accurately reflect the positioning of her fun and heart-felt business. The existing brand, while playful, was not as energising as it could be and frankly, needed to be in order to appeal to the various Kids Heart Pilates stakeholders that included the kids that absolutely love her pilates!! Find out what happened next by listening to this inspiring story about how branding can truly energise a small business. If you’d like to find out more about Kids Heart Pilates, you can check  Them out on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/kidsheartpilatesau/ You can find out more about Liz here: https://www.instagram.com/lizzydaep/

The How to Do Marketing Show
How to lay your brands foundations
Branding can mean many things to different people. Some people think that a companies brand is referring to their logo and the colours they use in the marketing collateral. Some people think of branding as marketing.  Some people think brand refers to the reputation of a company. And you know what? All of these definitions are true. Brand incorporates all of these.  In this episode, I talk with Jodie de Vries, Managing Director of the multi-award winning branding agency; Tiny Hunter. Jodie describes herself as part creative, part nerd. She has a lifelong love of problem-solving, and thrives on the power of design and collaboration to transform businesses.  In our chat, Jodie talks about the difference between branding and marketing, she shares what the foundations of an excellent brand are and how having a powerful brand can financially and otherwise benefit a small business. The How to Do Marketing Show
How to be the boss of your own time
One of the biggest challenges small business owners face when it comes to getting their marketing done is ‘not having the time.’ A small business owner typically wears many hats and can often feel stretched between pillar and post on a daily basis. And if we are not careful, we can fall into spending our days being ‘busy’ and yet being completely unproductive. The trouble is, as far as I know, no-one has worked out yet how to fit that additional hour into the day so that we are able to get everything done that we need to. We are stuck with our 24 hours and our 7 days a week. And once we accept that, we can start to make choices about how we prioritise our tasks within those 24 hours. Time management is one of the most important skills for us as business leaders to master if we want to actually ensure that we are working on meaningful tasks.  Michelle Broadbent is a Business Strategist who works with female entrepreneurs to implement smart, strategic and practical solutions that will elevate their business and give them the space to flourish in their zone of genius. This includes helping them to become the boss of their own time. In this episode she shares some practical tips as to how we can create a winning work week by effectively managing and prioritising our time. You can find Michelle here: https://www.michellebroadbent.com.au/ and she is also really active on Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/michbroadbent/ and LinkedIn here: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michellbroadbentbusinessstrategist/ To download Michelle’s My Winning Week template, click here: https://www.michellebroadbent.com.au/your-winning-week/

The power of purpose and partnerships when building brands and business
Running a small business can be pretty challenging. Particularly over the last couple of years where uncertainty has run fairly rife, and we’ve all had to embrace the art of changing plans at the drop of a hat. Something that Christine Khor strongly believes is that if we are tapped into a strong sense of purpose, a compelling mission and vision or a why, we actually manage to push through the challenges more successfully. When we can inspire others with our purpose, we tackle these challenges with more support.  In this episode Christine and I talk about how as marketers, it’s our role to communicate this purpose. And there’s a few ways that we can do this, including strategically partnering with another organisation that aligns with your purpose. If you are interested in attending The Hunger Project Immersion weekend in May 2022, then you can find out more about it and express your interest here https://join.thp.org.au/event/victorian-leadership-weekend  If you would like to get in touch with Christine, you can email her chris@peeplcoach.com  or phone her 0438 833 543 or check her out online: www.peeplcoach.com  and  https://www.linkedin.com/in/christinekhor/
