We all experienced resentment because life itself comes with different challenge on daily basis.
Although it is not always easy to forget things when we being hurt by people closer to us and as a human we kept that in mind and use it to occupy a space in our heart which most are the things that lead to hatred towards one another.
Welcome to the last Folding Towels Podcast of 2021, and the last episode of Season 2.
We talked about a few of the most memorable social justice stories from this year, and really dove deep into them. Was a great convo, hope you stick around to hear it.
Can't wait to be back in your ears, keep an eye out in the Spring when we redesign the pod and make it even better.
Thanks to all our listeners, we truly appreciate you.
Stay well, love one another, be patient. See you in '22!
Elliott & Elliot
We had planned on talking about basketball, fashion (you were in our crosshairs Kuzma!!!), and fatherhood, but could not get over quarter 1 with all the corruption in FLA prison systems, Rittenhouse bullshit, and our "judicial" system attacking us from all sides.
Hope you stick with us on this one, it was a tough conversation but something we both are really passionate about, which is how racism is a HUMAN PROBLEM, not just a problem for some of us.
This pod was bookended by Dead Prez's "Police State" and "We Want Freedom", and threw in "Through Me" from Beach House while we had to take a break and pour up.
Wishing you all all the best, and hopefully we will be back in your ears in the next few days!
Stay well, thanks so much,
Ell and Ell
What else do you need to hear?!?! We give all our Thanksgiving food takes and put you on to the latest and greatest Crypto advice!
Welcome back! Hopefully the chores aren't too daunting this week...
We talk about John Gruden and Dave Chappelle, how their current events are more entwined than we thought (and also how terrible John Gruden is!)
Had to discuss Kyrie again, sadly we talked for over 10 minutes on the $$$$ he is flushing away.
Lighting round was all about the scary things in life, so beware!
Lastly we touched on Halloween when we were kids, but Elliot had to dip early because his son was crying! Live show baby!
Great music from Tre Burt "Moth's Crossing", Alexa Rose "Human", Brian Wilson "Surf's Up" demo, Brook and the Bluff "Doobie Bronson", and Emilee Durbin "Around that Bend".
Let us know how we did, and hear us next week!
Welcome back all! We are so excited to have a brand new guest to the pod, Elliot’s 17-year-old step brother Wil who graciously shared his high school expertise as to what “the kids” are up to today. You don’t want to miss it.
Discussed a fantastic North Star article titled “Safe Spaces vs. Segregation: Knowing the Difference” all about a great idea called Affinity Groups and how they are desperately needed.
Also touched on all the wonderful Covid-related NBA fiascos, high-school fads that may or may not be embarrassing, and traits we certainly received from our parents (for better or worse!).
Great music from Tyler the Creator, Mos Def, Childish Gambino, the Wu-Tang Clan, and Khrungbin.
See you soon, and please rate and review if you think we are doing something good!
We are still a podcast! Ha!
Super glad to be back, so thankful you're here. Please enjoy a great discussion from a podcast from Ibram X. Kendi and Malcolm Gladwell called "Bridging Divisions", about being antiracist in our world.
We also discussed the most recent Breakfast Club podcast where Andre Iguodala joined them and just brought the knowledge and power!
We also went dish-by-dish through our last meals and talked about how we communicate with our kids while we are away from them.
Good stuff!
E&E
We discussed an article written by B Kean on Medium.com called "I Have White Rage". Highly suggested reading!
Also, the Elliot(t)’s got a little Lightning Round happy this week and did it for 3 quarters!
We went back and forth with Unusual Athlete Names, Famous People We Would Invite to Dinner, and then showed our age and fatherhood guessing some of the most “fire” vocabulary terms from Urban Dictionary!
Also kept it real East Coast Hip Hop with tracks from Black Star, a Tribe Called Quest, the Roots, Gang Starr, and Brand Nubian.
Catch you next week, and hope those towels got all folded and shit!
Welcome back all you Towel Folders!
Movie talk, CHECK!
Larry Elder talk, CHECK!
Fatherly instilling, CHECK!
Draymond love, CHECK!
You? Hell yeah, so glad to have you.
Great tunes this week from Hiss Golden Messenger, Bahamas and Lucius, Bright Lights Social Hour, and the song from Beverly Hills Cop!
See you next time, now get to folding!
Fun stuff on this one!
We talk about Cori Bush, Shaun King, Being a Black Realtor, all the fast food you don't want to talk about, and our kiddos going to school.
And for the overtime Elliott shared some wisdom about putting yourself out there and being vulnerable.
Write us a review or rate us, we can take it!
Thanks for listening, and see you soon!
Et & Ett
The Elliot(t)s took some much needed time off to recharge and reset the podcast, featuring a new format similar to a NBA game.
Four quarters, 12 minutes each, halftime, overtime, and all the hype that goes along with hoops.
We touch on the capital riot testimony, the Olympics, Westbrook to the Lake Show, our opinion on some board games, and of course fatherhood.
Let us know what you think, and thanks for allowing us some wiggle room on the audio, like I said we are trying new things!
Welcome back to a new season!
As Folding Towels makes it to 20 episodes, Elliott and Elliot wanted to share our aged wisdom with our 20 year old selves. Join us as we reminisce on the music, financial decisions, relationship choices, and advice we would give the Elliot(t)’s half our age!
We also recalled our favorite moments from the first 20 podcasts, and primed you all for what’s to come.
And as always, we have some real bangers this week: “Woo!” Remy Wolf, “In Da Club” 50 Cent, “Hey Leonardo” Blessed Union of Souls, “The Boss” James Brown, “Make Her Say” Kid Cudi, “Ordinary People” Jon Legend, and Leon Evergreen with the “Folding Towels Outro”.
Hear us soon with some great guests, getting back to talking about the things most important to us, social justice and whether or not the Lakers will lose the play-in game to the Warriors!
Stay well, show kindness to those who deserve it.
Yes, that one. Elliott and Elliot decided to have a long conversation about the ugliest word around. Elliott was kind and open enough to share some experiences he has had with the word, and Elliot tried his best to convince his fellow white folks it’s never ok to use it.
Big shout out to Ta-Nehesi Coates for his succinct and thorough explanation of why white folks can’t say the word (enjoy the audio!), as well as Dj Meechy Meech for making folks laugh with his voice overs (enjoy that audio too!).
And as usual we included some dope music from Das Racist “Pizza Hut Taco Bell (Wallpaper Remix)”, Pinegrove “Old Friends”, Nathaniel Rateliff “Say it Louder”, Drake “Started From the Bottom”, People Under the Stairs “the Breakdown”, and Mos Def with “Love”.
Big episode coming up, so keep an eye and ear out for #20!
Stay well, take care of yourselves and one another.
This week's podcast includes a few highs and lows; Highs while choosing a song that reminds us of 100% fun in college! Lows talking about Floyd McKissick’s failed attempt at a Black success story called Soul City from the late 70’s in North Carolina. But we did finish it off with the best high, where Elliott and I talked about who are our biggest fans in our lives, which just so happened to be our brothers (we did not coordinate our answers, but it’s pretty cool they were the same)!
Great music this week (as always!) starting with “Back to the Streets” Rudy Norman, “U Got Me” Scar and Big Boi, “Daft Punk is Playing at My House” LCD Soundsystem, “The Get Out of the Ghetto Blues” and “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised” from Gil Scott-Heron, “Two Sides of Monsieur Valentine” Spoon, “Git Up Git Out” Outkast and Cee-Lo, “Police and Thieves” Junior Mervin, and the Intro and Outro from Leon Evergreen.
Already working on the next one, it should be out by the end of the week and boy might it be a doozie!
Stay well, be kind to strangers, but most importantly, be kind to yourself.
Elliott and Elliot go head to head to talk bashing heads, quick double techs, slapping backboards, and end zone dances!
We also introduced a new segment called “Gots to Go!” where we put a couple folks on blast and really tell them they “Gots to Go!”
Rate and review please, and send us some messages or questions on our FoldingTowels Podcast Instagram!
Songs this week include: Bahamas “Caught Me Thinking”, Adele “Chasing Pavement”, Band of Horses “Our Swords”, NORE “Nothing”, Junior Kimbrough “All Night Long”, Kings of Convenience “I Don’t Know What I Can Save You From”, Oasis “Fucking in the Bushes”, and Steely Dan’s “Black Cow”.
Be well and get the vaccine as fast as you can!
Welcome back for the second half of the Elliot(t)s discussing the Autobiography of Malcolm X where we brainstormed some main topics from the book and dove right in.
Also touched on Elliott having some amazing Daddy-Daughter-Dates with his wonderful girls, the highs and lows of Fuddruckers, and of course how we feel Malcolm X's words resonate today as they did 50+ years ago.
Also throughout the episode you will hear guitar interludes from my music, Leon Evergreen, and a truly special treat (for me!) I included a song that came to me while putting all this together. Thank you for indulging me, and I hope you enjoy.
See you soon, and please rate, review, and let us know what you think about the pod!
The Elliot(t)s talked about it and actually did the damn thing!
Here is our discussion from the first 10 chapters of the Autobiography of Malcolm X by Malcolm X and Alex Haley.
Too relevant to today, and hopefully we are able to shine his light a little brighter in this dark world.
Look out for part 2 coming by the end of this week.
Also, all original music from Leon Evergreen, check him out on Bandcamp if you enjoy it!
Be good to each other and stay well!
