It's been a while since our last episode, but you'll understand why when you hear about everything that's been going on with us! Moving houses/countries, lots of travel... and cats*!
We chose a slightly unusual dram to taste, going back to France for a smaller distillery: Distillerie des Camisards. Small stills, chestnut casks, and a distinctive spirit - a lovely side of France to return to! Thanks to distiller Antoine for this sample (and the tour back in 2023!) You can read more about that visit on the EuroWhisky blog...
Of course, it was also time to play Mystery Reviews again, and to shout out Gospel in Melbourne!
Any ideas or questions, keep them coming on social media (@EuroWhisky / @Ripper_Whiskies) or via stuarteurowhisky@gmail.com
*Rest assured, cat photos will be made available on our social media
After the World Whisky Konferenz (Kempen) and Festival des Deutschen Whiskys (Schlitz) in April and May, we thought it was time to come back to German single malts! There's also some whisky news discussion and a look at the @VilniusWhiskyFestival , which Stuart visited as he settled into his new Lithuanian home.
Our tasting dram for this episode was also German - a @BoutiqueyWhisky bottling of @SailltMor single malt which @EuroWhisky and @Ripper_Whiskies both loved!

While Nordic whisky is something we've touched on a little, we never got the chance to learn so much about Norwegian whisky until we got to chat with Heather Storgaard!
While a little chat about Myken got swallowed by the techno-kraken, we still got a good discussion of Bivrost, whisky history, and how the Nordic whisky world is developing.
As always, check out more of our episodes if you enjoy this one, but also...
- @BivrostSpirits and @MykenDest for Norwegian whisky
- @RipperWhiskies for one co-host's drams
- @EuroWhisky for more European whisky content

**This was also recorded just before the whole #RyeGate story really broke, otherwise we would have talked about that too!**
We've had a first Christmas episode, yeah... but what about Second Christmas episode?
Stuart & Harry just couldn't bear for the holidays to end so soon - so they're living in denial and releasing an end-of-year episode in January.
Sampling whisky from Germany's first whisky-makers Habbel, reading another mystery review, and answering a question from Ali Baxter: If you could build your own distillery from the best parts of all the others that exist, what would your ultimate distillery look like?
Many thanks again to sponsor Kyrö - and to any and all listeners! Keep your questions and feedback coming on social media (@EuroWhisky / @Ripper_Whiskies on Instagram) or by email at stuarteurowhisky@gmail.com
We had Whisky Sisters Jennifer Rose and Inka Larissa on to chat about matching our favourite gigs with drams, the Glasgow Whisky Festival, loves/hates in the whisky world, and of course, our new segment Mystery Reviews!
And we got to delve into Jen and Inka's shared whisky backstory, with over 70 episodes of a podcast which helped to inspire our own!
You can find more from them @whiskysisters.podcast on Instagram, on their website www.whiskysisterspodcast.com, or see more from Inka's drinks blog at www.onthesauceagain.com

The march of SWE across the whisky world continues...
We talk OurWhisky mentorship, whisky journeys, and try some Stauning Rye whisky with this week's guest, Moa Reynolds. And Stuart invents a new game, 'Mystery Reviews', which we are DEFINITELY playing again
Hew new book, SCOTCH: The Balmoral Guide to Scottish Whisky (co-written with Ewan Cameron (@TheScotchCam)) is out now!
For more from Moa, see:
@PhotographyByMoaReynolds for Edinburgh-based, high quality photogrpahy (weddings included!)

@ScandinavianAbroad for knitting, dressmaking, travel, and more!
Swedish whiskies mentioned:
- Mackmyra (@mackmyrawhisky)
- Spirit of Hven (@spiritofhven)
- Norrtelje (@norrtaljebranneri)
- Stauning (@stauningwhisky)
Following up on last month's announcement that Swedish whisky giants Mackmyra were filing for bankruptcy, we take a look at what this might mean for the future of the whisky industry. Why is quality alone not enough, and what can other distilleries do to avoid going the same way?
This episode was sponsored by Kyrö Distillery - the same distillery we talk about at the start of this episode! The EuroWhisky blog now has an article all about the distillery visit and Kyrofest, so check it out to learn more about them!
Other distilleries mentioned:
- Kings County
- High Coast
- Old Well
- Port of Leith
"The first thing you should know about SWE is that we have people *everywhere*..."
This week's guest, Nicola Dolan (of SMWS Queen Street) talks about her journey into whisky, shares her Desert Island Drams, and reviews a selection of European drams from Belgium (Radermacher / Lambertus), Germany (Slyrs, Scheibel Mühle, Eifel), and the Netherlands (Cley, Zuidam / Millstone)
Harry & Stuart also review Cornish single malt from Rosemullion Distillery and briefly turn the podcast into a Black Sails discussion. Anyone wanna join us for another podcast, Shanties & Shandies?
Thanks to this episode's sponsor, Kyrö! I'll be at the distillery later this week for the annual Kyrö day too, so see you there if you're attending!
Distilleries mentioned:
Our first guest - its Ian Clement! A new distiller at Holyrood and former tour guide we know from the S.W.E. trenches, Ian brings his perspective and, you know, *actual distilling knowledge* to the EuroWhisky Podcast!
We also try a dram from Radermacher Distillery, the beautiful 'odd one out' of Belgian whisky makers. Have you ever had a chance to try single malts from this Ardennes distillery, founded in 1836?
Thanks to @ianclem for coming on the show! You can find more about the whisky he has a hand in at @holyrooddistillery, or the dram we tasted @distillerie.radermacher. And especially thanks to @KyroDistillery for sponsoring our show!
Any questions about the episode, the whisky, or Ian? Let us know, send us a message @EuroWhisky , @RipperWhiskies, or stuarteurowhisky@gmail.com
We're back with the first episode of Season 2 - its Harry Brennan and Stuart Ripper chatting about European whiskies. We're catching up on what we've missed, and looking into the first whisky makers in each country around Europe!
It's good to be back - let us know if there's any questions or comments you'd like us to respond to on air. You can find us @eurowhisky, @ripperwhiskies, or stuarteurowhisky@gmail.com
Thank you to our sponsor for this episode, Fary Lochan!
We're ready to start releasing Season 2 of the EuroWhisky Podcast, so to whet your appetites we've made up a wee compilation of fun moments from Season 1!
Just a little fun celebrating the silly moments and good discussions before we get back to releasing a new season with guests, tastings, and more.
Ask us any questions you have on social media or at stuarteurowhisky@gmail.com - and thanks for listening and laughing with us!
It's the last day of school at EuroWhisky - time to round off Season 1 of the podcast with a discussion of single cask whiskies. Dram of Bimber in hand, we ask questions like:
- What does 'single cask' mean?
- How is the term defined?
- Is it socially acceptable to talk about Land Down Under with an Australian host?
Let us know any thoughts or suggestions for Season 2 (coming in 2024) and in the meantime, thanks for listening! Check out @ripper_whiskies and @eurowhisky on Instagram or www.EuroWhiskey.eu for more
Back after a summer hiatus, we're continent-hopping in this one!
Harry & Stuart talk about visits to (and tastings in) La Whiskeria, Barcelona's prime whisky venue. From there, we get the chance to talk about the Spanish whisky scene and then to taste a dram from the Netherlands.
This week, its the sherry-loving Zuidam distillery, home to both Millstone rye whisky and some single malts. After talking about sherry, we tried Zuidam's Peated White Port... make it make sense!
As always, get in touch with any thoughts or questions, especially for how we can improve the podcast ahead of Season 2!
It's our first time trying German whisky together, and its one you might not know - but you should! NORDIK is a family distillery in northern Germany, not far from Hamburg. Trying their Rotwein expression, Harry and Stuart get chatting about both German whisky more widely and some more examples of family distilleries. A listener question helps them finally be critical of some bad drams from the past!
If you have a question, ask us @eurowhisky or @ripper_whiskies on socials. Also follow or tag the following whiskies and others who we mentioned in this episode!
- @Nordik_Edelbrennerei
- @BusWhisky
- @RennesWhiskyClub
- @LaWhiskeriaBCN
- @BrennereiHenrich
- @GlenfarclasDistillery
Probably not going to tag the ones we complained about... sorry Balcones, Crabbies, Blaue Maus, you have other good drams but we managed to find your worst ones!
In the first EuroWhisky exploration of English whisky, Harry's recent visit to East London Liquor Company prompts some reminiscing from Stuart before the boys try a dram of The Lakes Distillery's Colheita cask. Answering a listener question about blending only makes things sillier.
Maybe you'll like this One... if not, try another One. Just make sure it's not your last one!
If you have a question, ask us @eurowhisky or @ripper_whiskies on socials. Also follow or tag the following whiskies and others who we mentioned in this episode!

- @SpiritOfYorkshire
- @LakesDistillery
- @TomatinWhisky
It's all things Ireland in a quick episode this week, as Harry and Stuart* talk about visits to Teeling in Dublin (one much more recent than the other) and try some of the distillery's Pineapple Rum Cask whiskey.
Have you tried any Teeling yourself? Or have an Irish whiskey you really wish we'd talked about on the show?
Send us any and all comments and questions @eurowhisky or @ripper_whiskies on Instagram
