Boys need love too! Over the years there have been plenty of discussion and studies focused on female body imagery, but what about the fellas? How has the promotion of the buff bods affected how men see themselves? Was commodifying the male physique a mistake? Is the hypermasculinity in hip hop a factor? And why is Mark Wahlberg to blame?!
We also crack jokes on Ice Spice and Da Baby.

Mumble Rap since its conception in the 2010s has been a prominent subgenre of Rap/Hip-Hop.
However, with any genre comes those who support or deny the genre. What is unique about mumble rap is its use of production to carry the track.
On the opposite end of hip-hop, Lyricism has been the skeleton of the genre since its conception.
Many artists have made their mark in the industry including J.Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Tupac.. the list goes on.
In this episode for the Tempo Tribe, Denzel, Dylan and Meron discuss if Mumble Rap has overshadowed Lyricism in the Rap/Hip-Hop industry?

TikTok has long been an entertaining, short-form video app with many different types of educational, life experiences, and funny moments shared on the platform. The app has also been an important medium in allowing indie artists to share their music with a wider and more relevant audience, including blowing artists up in some cases, such as @in.iko, @taiverdes, and @pinkpantheress.
But with the ease of sharing content, comes the excessive promotion of new singles by artists backed by record labels. This includes utilizing popular influencers, micro-influencers, and even TikTok execs themselves (!!) to promote new music to the average TikTok user. Tune in as the Tempo Tribe discusses if TikTok is good or bad for the music industry, presently and in the future!

Lately it seems the world over has started to recognize the smooth sounds of Afrobeats, with CKay’s “Love Nwantiti” hitting #1 this year as one of many examples. So the Tribe decided to take a look at back to the Motherland and break it all down based on their own experiences. What is Afrobeats? Which artist are running the genre? Does Ghana even have any artists in play?? Did Drake bring it to the West? And how come East Africa getting left out?! From Fela to Burna we celebrate the most rhythmic and joyous genre around!

The Music Industry has existed for ages. Its sparked relationship between the artist and the record label that can be described as "ebb's and flows". From the perspective of the average person it seems like all its meant to be, you are able to create art that you are paid currency for. Some artists such as Chance the Rapper preach that the music industry isn't a smart decision and encourage independent artistry.
However, we wanted to know what else is there to joining the music industry? Is there a catch? Who better than someone who is part of the music industry to ask such questions. Listen in while Denzel, Dylan and Meron have a friendly conversation with Robert Matlock, Singer-Songwriter and Producer (LEAD VOCALIST of CANTERVICE)

The descriptor of conscious rapper has been thrown around over the past few years, but what does that really mean? Is it a prolific story teller? An activist? A teacher? The Tribe trek from Grandmaster Flash to KRS One and Queen Latifah, Mos Def (Yasin Bey), Kendrick Lamar (lol) and Noname in search for an answer. Debate ensues!
We also praise Giveon, make fun of Verzuz, and lament the religious zealots on the Supreme Court.

A one-hit wonder is defined as "any entity that achieves mainstream popularity, often for only one piece of work." In this episode of the podcast hosted by our very own Denzel, the Tribe dives into the topic of "One-Hit Wonders".

Jeff Bezos is a punk. Inspired by the wave of unionization and political awakenings over the past few years, the Tribe decided to recruit an OG in this grassroots warfare in sussing out music's role, if any, in getting political messaging across and affecting change. Guest Caullen Hudson (of SoapBox Productions), aka Dr. Cornell Mid-West himself came through and enlightened the pod on the dual rise of political activism and drill rap in the city of Chicago, and how much they have in common.
