Strategy Redux: What got you here won’t get you there

One of the most overused phrases in business? “What got you here won’t get you there.” Now I do actually love this phrase because it’s practical, but it’s also highly infuriating. The way I interpret this statement, which is something that I think a lot of different business owners are saying, is that we need to explore new strategies to reach new levels of growth. Directionally, I believe that's true and I think that we need to be open to exploring that, but what I think gets a little bit kind of mixed up is this idea that we need to throw the baby out with the bath water. So dive in with me on today’s episode of Strategy Snacks as I break down this saying piece by piece to give you the tangible things that you should look for if you’re ready to scale your business to the next level.

Unlocking Opportunities for Moms in the Podcasting World with Podcast Expert Amanda Bennett

“We have this kind of autopilot of connecting with people who are like us, people who do what we do… and I think that's great for certain things, but you also need to get into spaces where you're the only one who does what you do. You are the only one – and that is especially important when it comes to pitching yourself to be a guest on podcasts.”

In this episode of Strategy Snacks, I’m joined by Amanda Bennet, podcast guesting strategist who helps mom podcasters grow their audience and impact with intentional collabs, fresh ideas, and encouragement in community. She shares some of her expertise and top tips when it comes to finding aligned shows to pitch yourself on so that you can receive maximum return! And as always, you’ll hear some of her favorite business wins and lessons learned along the way.

Topics:

  • How two years of podcasting was the catalyst for Amanda to start her own business as a podcast guest expert
  • One of Amanda’s favorite business wins that has impacted her the most and that she loves to celebrate (plus the value of celebrating small wins)
  • Knowing when to intentionally invest in your business and the lessons that Amanda learned through this process
  • The four principles that Amanda focuses on when she finds aligned podcasts to pitch her clients on

How to Set More Realistic Goals in 2024

Is my goal realistic? This is one of the most common questions I hear from clients, and I think the interesting thing about that question is we all want to be right. We all want to be able to predict the future, guess the outcomes that we're going for and get there, right? And when we don't hit those goals, it can often feel like a total failure. So on this bite-sized episode today, I’m going to give you a quick strategy that will help you break down the numbers in your business to help you set better short and long term goals. But before you even dig in, I want you to remember that everything that we do in our business is an educated guess, and the goal is not to necessarily get it right, although that is nice when that happens, the goal is to create an infrastructure that is as right as possible.

Taxes as a Creative Act with Tax Expert Hannah Cole

“Data is neutral, it's not there to criticize you, it's there to tell you information and you can put whatever story on it you want, but ultimately it’s pretty objective, and it's really wonderful as a measuring stick.”

In this episode of Strategy Snacks, I’m joined by Hannah Cole, a tax expert who specializes in working with creative businesses and mission-driven solopreneurs. She’s not only an accounting and tax wizard, but she's also a creative and is very impressive in the way that she bridges the gap between the creative world and the sometimes-considered-less-creative-world of taxes and accounting. She’s sharing her quick tips for business owners, especially if you’re just starting out. I learned a couple of new things throughout this conversation and I think you will too. Remember, if you’re a business person, tax planning is definitely for you!

About Hannah:

Hannah Cole is a tax expert who specializes in working with creative businesses and mission-driven solopreneurs. A long-time working artist herself, she’s helped tens of thousands of self-employed people skill up with accessible tax and money education, through her Money Bootcamp program, speaking engagements from Florida to Alaska, and on the Sunlight podcast. She is the founder of Sunlight Tax.

How to Prioritize your Way out of Overwhelm

I have a to-do list a mile long. Create more content, repurpose existing content, get featured on podcasts, grow my email list, market my online program, the list really goes on forever (at least it feels like it). So what do you do when you *know* what you need to do but you don’t know what you need to do *next* and you end up becoming a task master with no real strategy and get stuck in overwhelm? Saleema Noon, a sexual health educator, brought this Q to the pod today and I can’t wait to share the solution! Hopefully it’s simpler than you think!

Why You Should Care About Clarity

I am so excited for this episode today to dive into a topic that I am obsessed with and a word that you've probably heard me say too much – clarity. This is one of the most common deliverables that I offer in each of my programs and it’s something that I’m really proud of (even if it isn’t the sexiest thing)! I’ve found that what people want is more money, what people need is more clarity. So what I really want to dig into today is why you should care about clarity because revenue is just an output of doing the right work at the right time and clarity is the pathway to knowing what the right work is and when the right time for it is. Let’s dig in!

Refocusing on Yourself to be a Better Business Owner with Lori Walker

“You never know where you’re going to wind up or what you’re going to wind up doing.”

So many times we think that we don’t have enough experience to call ourselves experts in our niche, but I’ve found that what so many people forget is that all of our past experiences in our personal lives and our career can be used in cultivating our unique expertise.

Even more, we chat about how refocusing on yourself and your needs will make you a better business owner and lead to even greater deliverables for your clients (one of her biggest takeaways from our work together!). Removing the Woo of Energy Work with Brenda Winkle

“It doesn't matter what you're charging, as long as there's an energy exchange that feels energy rich to you.”

In the past, I’ve been so adverse to energy work because I felt like the space was honestly filled with a lot of bullshit. However, while hosting the Media Genius event, I met Brenda Winkle and that all changed. Brenda is an educator, healer, speaker, and guide who helps sensitive and successful high performers find, reclaim and live from their full embodied YES and I am so excited to have her on Strategy Snacks this week. In our conversation, we chat about what an even energy exchange feels like and how this can be a guide when creating pricing in your business. Brenda also shares the power of doing nothing and how this can actually jumpstart a creative state for you. I absolutely loved this conversation and I think you will, too.

If you want to experience some of the same wins that Brenda shares in her episode, you can join the waitlist for Business Genius Bootcamp here.

About Brenda:

Brenda Winkle is an educator, healer, speaker, and guide who helps sensitive and successful high performers find, reclaim and live from their full embodied YES. Don’t Grow It Alone

Today on Strategy Snacks, I want to talk to you about the idea that you should not grow your business alone. (Don't worry, this isn't going to turn into a five to 10 minute pitch all about me and how I can help you grow your business, although I can, and I'm happy to chat with you about that.) What I really want to dig into today is, how do you identify where you need help and when you need help? I want to talk about this in three different areas:

  1. Where do you need tactical support?
  2. Where do you need emotional support?
  3. Where do you need mentorship?

Let’s dig in!

Gut is the Intersection of Feeling & Data

If you follow me on Instagram, you've probably heard me talk about how I really hate this term of “downloads” or “intuitive hits”, and it's not because I don't believe that some people are clairvoyant and have those insights, but I think it creates this really unfair hierarchy where we think we HAVE to listen to these thoughts/feelings because they come from a higher place.

Yet, at the same time, some of us are just people who have thoughts and ideas and are just trying to differentiate between when our gut is helping us and when our gut is working against us, right? We've all been in those situations where our gut is pointing us in the right direction or where our gut is amplifying our fear, our insecurities, our self-doubt, and is actually working against us. So on today’s episode of Strategy Snacks, I want to talk about how we solve that problem. How do we build a relationship with that gut feeling, those gut messages that we get without completely getting hijacked when our gut is not serving us.

Lessons You Have to Learn as Business Owner with Krissy Chin

“One of the hardest lessons is knowing and understanding that you have to learn and develop skills in areas that you may not want to as a business owner.”

Krissy Chin, author, podcast host, and business owner, is joining me today on Strategy Snacks to talk a bit about her journey as an entrepreneur. In her first month of business, she gained over 1,000 paid subscribers, but with that onramp to success came a lot of harder lessons learned. Like so many of our guests, Krissy reiterates the importance of just starting and being comfortable with taking imperfect action. There’s a lot of short and sweet nuggets in this episode!

“I always say that copy isn't the icing on the cake, but that it is the cake. It's the butter. It's the gluten-free flour. If you're like me, it's the eggs. In this episode of Strategy Snacks, we are joined by Marisa Corcoran. Marisa helps coaches and creatives craft their uncopyable message inside her signature program, The Copy Confidence Society. She's also the creator of the wildly popular summit, The Copy Chat which has raised over $100K for organizations like Soul Fire Farm, The Headstrong Project, and Sage USA.

Snack Drop with Executive Coach & Organizational Consultant, Dr. Jessica Wilen

"Chase values, not goals. Like most high achieving ambitious people, I was taught to chase goals, right? Earn the next degree, secure the next promotion, climb the ladder. But the reality is, these goals bring a fleeting sense of accomplishment. So you feel really good in the moment, but pretty quickly there's a letdown as you start to think about what's next. And it can be very difficult to achieve a sense of contentment if you only focus on goals."

In this episode of Strategy Snacks, we are joined by Dr. Jessica Wilen. Jessica is the founder of Jessica Wilen Coaching LLC, a boutique executive coaching and organizational consulting firm specializing in helping high-performing professional women—across career stages and industries—create deep and sustained personal and professional growth. She is a nationally recognized thought leader and advocate for working parents, and authors the popular newsletter, A Cup of Ambition, written for working moms who care about building a meaningful career and being an involved parent.
