In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana, Chika, and Avary aka Kyoruyeye discuss the film Fruits Basket Prelude. Kyoko Katsunoma, a struggling teen with a poor relationship with her parents and a history of gang involvement, meets Katsuya Honda, a student teacher on a day she decides to attend school. He sees her pain and anger and gives a voice to it, and the two bond and become close quickly. Their love story unfolds on screen, ultimately bringing Tohru Honda into the world, but it ends abruptly with Katsuya’s unexpected death, and the impact it has on Kyoko and Tohru is immeasurable. It's the 100th episode of Shoujo Sundae! In this episode, Giana and Chika review episodes sixty-one through sixty-three of Fruits Basket (2019)! In episode sixty-one, Kyo and Tohru speak honestly about their feelings for one another, and something unexpected happens when he goes to embrace her. The origin of the Sohma family’s curse is revealed and finally broken. In episode sixty-two, Yuki’s bond breaks, and he and Machi share their feelings with one another. The ex-zodiacs have their final banquet, where Akito reveals herself as a woman to the family. Shigure and Akito speak of their feelings for one another as well. Kyo asks Tohru to move away with him. Kyoko’s dying thoughts are revealed in full. In episode sixty-three, Tohru reminisces on her memories with the Sohmas as she and the others move onto the next chapter of their lives. The ex-zodiac members ponder the future and reflect on the past. Yuki finally tells Tohru about the motherly role she’s played in his life.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika and Giana review episodes fifty-seven through fifty-nine of Fruits Basket (2019)! In episode fifty-seven, we learn about Ren and Akira’s love story, and the terrible way Ren treated Akito as a child. When Akira dies, a maid gives Akito a box “containing Akira’s soul”. Ren, unaware of what is inside the box, violently attacks Akito to take it from her. Kureno tries to console Akito after another zodiac bond breaks, assuring her she can start over. Akito hurts Kureno in response. In episode fifty-eight, Kyo and Tohru have a difficult conversation about her feelings for him and his past relationship with Kyoko, including him being at the site of her fatal accident. In episode fifty-nine, Tohru helps Akito decide to start over, only to fall from a dangerous height as the ground below her crumbles beneath her feet. Kyo breaks down at the sight of her injuries. In episode sixty, Akito apologizes to Uo for stabbing Kureno, who shows her compassion. Uo and Kureno talk about the future. Yuki and Kyo fight, finally telling one another how they truly feel about each other. Kyo visits his father, who is cruel to him, blaming him for his mother’s death. After she is discharged, Tohru sprints away at the sight of Kyo outside the hospital.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika review the manga Fruits Basket Another and celebrate their third anniversary of podcasting! The manga follows the journey of Sawa Mitawa, a sixteen-year-old girl with severe social anxiety due to her abusive mother, as she’s taken in by the next generation of Sohmas as a friend. Her bonds with Mutsuki, Hajime, Riku, and the rest of the Sohmas gradually pull her gaze up from the ground and put a smile on her face. She grows particularly close to Shiki Sohma - a middle-school first-year and the son of Akito and Shigure - and a romance seems to bloom between the two of them as they both figure out how to carry the weight of their mothers’ actions.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika review episodes fifty-four through fifty-six of Fruits Basket (2019)! In episode fifty-four, Rin is missing, causing concern among the younger zodiacs. Hiro tearfully tells Hatsuharu and Kisa the truth about why Akito hurt Rin and Kisa. As a result, Haru confronts Akito. Kureno has Rin taken to the hospital, where she later escapes, and collapses on the street. Haru comes to her aid. In episode fifty-five, Momiji has a growth spurt that takes everyone by surprise. He urges Kyo to not give up on Tohru, or else he might swoop in. Suddenly, in the middle of the night, Momiji’s bond severs, bringing his future into his own hands for the first time. In episode fifty-six, Shigure tells Rin and Tohru that the curse will break on its own. Tohru worries it won’t break in time for Kyo to maintain his freedom.

The two of them get in an argument, revealing the twisted situation between the two of them and Ren. Tohru tries to discuss the possibility of the curse breaking with Kyo, but he shuts down the conversation. In episode 54, a terrible rumor spreads about Machi. Yuki and Manabe (Kakeru) give her an impromptu visit to check in on her, and Yuki comes to understand Machi better. Last minute love confessions are snuck in before the third years graduate.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika review episodes ten through thirteen of My Love Story with Yamada Kun at Lv999! They also interview voice actress Abby Trott, who played the role of Akane in the show! In episode ten, Tsubaki thinks about how she held back her feelings for Yamada, and worries about losing him to Akane. Meanwhile, Yamada goes above and beyond to take care of Akane while she’s ill, and she reflects on how safe she feels with him. In episode eleven, Akane meets Tsubaki in Forest of Savior, and the two struggle against a low level boss, with no help from Eita, who sits on the sidelines and watches. Akane meets Momo at a cafe to seek advice from her about what she might need to improve upon before falling in love again. Eita rescues Momo and Akane at the cafe he works at from being bothered by two creepy guys. The episode ends as Akane asks Eita to speak with her. In episode twelve, Eita and Momo convince Akane to confess her feelings to Yamada, which doesn’t go as planned. After his night class, Tsubaki accidentally blurts out a confession to Yamada. In episode thirteen, Yamada gives an answer to Tsubaki. Mr. Kamota invites the guild members out to dinner, where Akane gets drunk on expensive sake. Yamada makes sure she gets home safe, and the two let their guards down in front of her apartment door.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika, Giana, and Kayla and Yana of Lovely Incorporated review episodes seven through nine of My Love Story with Yamada Kun at Lv999! In episode seven, Yamada removes Akane’s hair clip from her hair while she’s sleeping, and intercepts an unexpected visit from Takuma at her door. Akane gets a part-time job at a convenience store. At school, Yamada is asked to work on his class’s cultural festival committee. In episode eight, Akane, Eita, Runa, and Kamota all attend Yamada’s school’s cultural festival. Runa’s social anxiety gives her a stomachache, landing her in the infirmary for the day. Girls at Yamada’s school glare at Akane as she walks with Yamada, and Eita suggests they actually start dating. Embarrassed, Akane storms off at the notion, but Yamada follows her. In episode nine, Yamada’s classmate, Tsubaki, joins the guild, much to Runa’s chagrin. Tsubaki seems to have a crush on Yamada. Working overtime causes Akane to come down with an intense fever. She collapses outside, and Yamada finds her.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika review episodes four through six of My Love Story with Yamada Kun at Lv999! In episode four, Runa, Eita’s younger sister, is abrasive and rude toward Akane at the Forest of Savior guild meetup. After parting ways, Runa personally reaches out to Akane, seemingly to extend an olive branch, and makes plans with her for that upcoming Saturday. In episode five, Runa fails to show up to a restaurant to spend time with Akane, but instead sends a Rurihime superfan to go in her stead, all the while convincing that superfan that Akane was Rurihime. This results in this middle-aged man coming on very strong, and Akane attempting to escape, but he goes so far as to follow her into the bathroom. Eventually, Yamada figures out what was going on, and he, Eita, Runa, and Mr. Kamota all go to rescue Akane from the situation. In episode six, Akane’s computer suddenly short circuits, preventing her from gaming. Yamada goes over to help her, and Runa and Eita scheme to make Yamada and Akane a couple.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika, Giana, and cosplayer Jahara Jayde review episodes one through three of My Love Story with Yamada Kun at Lv999! In episode one, Akane is dumped by her cheating boyfriend, and fluctuates through stages of grief. At an in-person event for a game her ex-boyfriend, Takuma, introduced her to, Akane bribes an attractive guy to pretend to be her boyfriend in front of Takuma and his new lady. This attractive guy turns out to be a locally famous professional gamer, Yamada. In episode two, Akane wakes up at Yamada’s apartment after getting too drunk the night before, and worries that something happened between them. At home, Akane realizes she lost her necklace at Yamada’s place. In episode three, Akane learns she’s been frustrating her guild members by placing low level gear inside their shared storage, and doesn’t log into Forest of Savior for several days. After reconnecting with the guild at Yamada’s behest, Akane attends an IRL meetup at a cafe with her guild members, eager to find out the true identity of the cute, sweet guild leader, Rurihime.

Hey, shounen fans! Today, we're diving into Frieren: Beyond Journey's End for the very first time! We meet the elven mage Frieren and her adventuring party: Himmel the Hero, Heiter the priest, and Eisen the dwarf. After defeating the Demon King (or Lord?), they part ways after a decade-long journey together. Fifty years later, ensuing the death of Himmel, Frieren wishes she had taken the time to get to know him better. Years later, while visiting Heiter, she sort of stumbles into having an apprentice - a war orphan named Fern who Heiter had been looking after. After Heiter dies, Frieren and Fern begin their own journey to learn spells. These first two episodes packed an emotional punch and introduced us to a fantastical new world.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika and Giana review episodes twenty-three through twenty-five of Kimi Ni Todoke. In episode twenty-three, Ayane and Chizu plot to set up Sawako and Kazehaya on a solo date on New Year’s Eve. Before abandoning them at the shrine together, the girls do Sawako’s hair and makeup. In episode twenty-four, Sawako and Kazehaya enjoy a chilly New Year’s Eve together at the shrine. Kazehaya learns at the end of the night that it was Sawako’s birthday, and, in a way, gives her many gifts. In episode twenty-five, Kazehaya exchanges his “good luck fortune” for her very bad luck one. Chizu and Ryuu go to the shrine together. Ayane reluctantly gets stuck with Jo for the evening. Kazehaya walks Sawako home, and they each internally reflect on their feelings for each other. It’s finale time!

Ayane and Sawako lament over their helplessness for Chizu’s situation. In episode twenty-one, Toru and Chizu reminisce over the past, and Chizu attempts to confess her feelings to him. In episode twenty-two, Sawako’s class throws a Christmas party. Kazehaya invites Sawako, but Sawako plans to spend the day with her parents, as it is their tradition to spend the holiday together. Sawako makes handmade gifts for her family and friends. At nighttime on Christmas Eve, Sawako’s friends call her and implore her to come to the party. With her parents' permission, Sawako rushes to see her friends and Kazehaya in the snow.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika and Giana review episode sixteen through nineteen of Kimi Ni Todoke! In episode sixteen, the tiny men Pin hallucinates recap the first fifteen episodes of the series. In episode seventeen, Pin begs Kazehaya to bring Sawako over to rid him of what he believes is a curse, but is actually a cold. Afterwards, Kazehaya walks Sawako home under the stars, and they almost share a kiss. In episode eighteen, Chizu buys Ryuu a birthday present. She also confides in Sawako about her love for Ryuu’s older brother, Toru. When Ryuu goes to visit Chizu, she ends up kicking him out because he almost spotted his gift, causing a rift between them. Ayane breaks up with her terrible boyfriend. In episode nineteen, Chizu invites Sawako and Ayane over for a sleepover to help Ayane after her breakup. The girls end up going to Ryuu’s and join their party for a heartbroken Jo. Ryuu’s brother returns home to visit and introduces them to his fiancee, much to Chizu’s surprise.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika review episodes thirteen through fifteen of Kimi Ni Todoke! In episode thirteen, Sawako comes to fully understand the nature of her feelings towards Kazehaya. Kurumi’s plan to drive a wedge between the two of them is not only thwarted, but rumors also begin to spread around the school that she has feelings for Pin. Ayane uncovers that Kurumi was the one who spread the recent rumors about her and Chizu and confronts her. In episode fourteen, Kurumi admits to her wrongdoings. Despite Kurumi’s brutal honesty, Sawako seeks her out to confide in her. In episode fifteen, Kurumi, to ensure that Kazehaya does not believe she was rejected by Pin, confesses her feelings to him. Sawako asks Kurumi if they can be friends, but Kurumi retorts that they are rivals.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Chika and Giana review episodes ten through twelve of Kimi Ni Todoke! In episode ten, we learn about Chizuru’s and Kurumi’s experience in middle school together, when Kurumi manipulated Chizuru into “helping” the other girls in their class confess their love to Kazehaya. Kurumi continues to be friendly with Sawako and eventually confides in her that she has feelings for Kazehaya. In episode eleven, Sawako declines to help Kurumi pursue Kazehaya. Kurumi tries to convince Sawako that her feelings for Kazehaya aren’t special, and urges her to speak more with Ryuu after he saves her from a rogue softball pitch. In episode twelve, Kurumi schemes to set up Sawako and Ryuu, but the two end up strengthening their bond in friendship, not romance. Ryuu confides in Sawako about some secret feelings he has.

In this episode of Shoujo Sundae, Giana and Chika review episodes seven through nine of Kimi Ni Todoke! In episode seven, Sawako, Chizu, and Ayane go out for ramen to a local shop. Sawako learns that the shop is owned by Ryuu’s family, and they live above the store. They spend the evening hanging out in Ryuu’s room and invite Kazehaya over. In episode eight, Sawako’s friends encourage her to call them by their first names. However, she struggles to call Kazehaya “Shota”. Pin forces Kazehaya to become a committee member for the upcoming sports festival. His middle school friend, Kurumi, is also on the committee, and it’s evident she’s trying to become closer to Kazehaya. Kazehaya helps Sawako practice soccer for the sports festival. In episode nine, Sawako is enchanted by Kurumi and hopes to become friends with her, and the feeling seems to be mutual... or is it? Kazehaya struggles to call Sawako by her first name.
