Everyone is talking about the future of work. But the future is here. The future is NOW. Work has and continues to change in radical ways, and it’s hard to keep up.
AI is disrupting your job
By 2025, automation and a new division of labor between humans and machines will disrupt 85 million jobs globally across 15 industries and 26 economies, but 97 million new jobs will emerge.
Your skills are likely to become extinct
Half of the skills you rely on today will change in the next five years. What skills are likely to become outdated? Which new skills will be in high demand?
Will the skills for the future be your cup of tea?
The demand for digital skills is skyrocketing. Skills in data analytics, cybersecurity, and digital marketing are becoming crucial. But what if you’re not into digital or tech?
This new series focuses on a Future of Work that is Future Positive. We talk about turning AI from foe to friend and harnessing artificial intelligence to improve our jobs and leadership skills. We discuss hiring mistakes, strategies to showcase your skills, and how to create impact through your work.

This episode is a special edition for Mother’s day. It draws on the letter called “The Legacy of Our Mothers”, that Esther Perel published last week. Esther shares some details about the complicated and ambivalent relationship she had with her own mother and invites us to reflect on our own relationships with motherly figures.
I want to build on that invitation, I want to broaden the scope of the conversation and introduce the following thought: The relationship with our mother becomes a blueprint for our relationships with women - a blueprint for our relationships with female leaders.
A great mother makes a great leader. And a great leader is very much like a great mother. Leadership, like motherhood, is an act of profound nurture and service. It demands not only strength and vision but a heart willing to listen, to guide, and to protect.
How are your relationships with women? Do you experience ambivalence with female authority figures? How do your relationships with female leaders mirror those with your mother? How does this influence manifest in your professional life?
If you’re a female leader - how does your mother’s voice shape the way you lead your people?
Join me on this special edition of the SHFT Happens Podcast as e explore these questions and more:
As CEO of Publicis Creatives and some of the most influential agencies in the advertising industry in New York, Susie Nam has been critical in designing systems and culture that yield breakthrough ideas and advance best-in-class talent.
I spoke with Susie several years ago, when she was still CEO of Droga5 where she has been instrumental in the agency’s significant growth from a 35-person crew in NYC to an industry-leading brand with 500+ employees in their flagship office, and 4 global hubs supporting international clientele.
Susie’s impact goes beyond the organizations she’s worked for, she’s consistently served as an executive leader, champion and advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion across communities.

Life Therapy for this case:
It's been 1.5 years since a major turning point in my life. After the initial highs and the afterglow faded, I found myself grappling with questions about what I want to do, who I want to be, who my people are, and what my place is in society. I didn’t receive any ready-made revelations or answers. Instead, I was left with a strong, piercing longing for a different kind of life — a slower life, with less chaos, hurt, and numbness, and more authenticity, more attunement to my body and heart, and more meaning.
I was clueless about where to start, what it meant, where to go, what to do, or who to talk to. It was an intensely lonely place. I tried to explain this to my husband, but it’s hard to convey that this feeling, this sense of misplacement, wasn’t just a fleeting thought, but something profound and deep-seated — in my bones, my essence, my core.
That moment of change opened up a void, and over the past year, I’ve been trying to figure out how to fill it — with positive experiences, tranquility, movement, and nature."

Matthew Simpson achieved what many would call the “American Dream,” owning a successful business, a house, and a fancy car. However, his life felt empty and devoid of hope. He had it all, but he felt stuck. To the outside world he was the cool dude in a suit, but beneath the surface he was struggling with substance abuse and navigating a brutal existence marked by constant fear, worry, indecision, and mistrust in himself, and others.
From one day to the next, he left everything behind & embarked on a journey of self-discovery. During this process, he found a way to heal his trauma, overcome his anxiety, he left the world of business, and embraced the role of an ambassador dedicated to addressing the U.S. war veteran suicide epidemic. His book, "Worth a Fight," chronicles this profound transformation and today he donnates the proceeds from his book to support U.S. war veterans in their ongoing struggles.
Join me on this episode where Matt openly shares his journey, a narrative healing from pain and trauma.
He accomplished what many would deem the “American Dream,” but lived a life without hope. In 2013, Matt owned a sussceccesful, a house, and a fancy car. But he felt stuck. He candidly shares his journey, a narrative that involved masking emotions with substance abuse to fit in and navigate a pretty brutal existence of constant fear, worry, indecision, and grave mistrust in himself and others.
He left everything behind and went in search of himself. In the process he discovered a way to overcome his constant fight-or flight and decided to leave that the world of business and embrace the role of an ambassador devoted to tackling the U.S. war veteran suicide epidemic instead. He wrote "Worth a Fight," and donates the proceeds from his book to support U.S. war veterans in their ongoing struggles.

In 20 years of my career, I went from one good job to another; from one great company to an even better one, and I truly believed I was being judged on my capabilities and not my gender. So, when asked to comment on this topic, I always declined because statements like “my gender has not gotten in my way” weren’t really fit for headlines. Yes, I went to all the women's networks (I even lead one for Dell (DWEN)). But at some point all the female networks started to look a lot like female ghettos. And all the focus on needing to improve women's self esteem and capabilities just seemed to feed women's insecurities and the myth that women are less capable. I just didn’t want to be a contributing factor to that. It wasn’t until I got older…actually, it wasn't until I became a mother (read a year ago), that I became conscious of how unfair it all is. Reflecting back on my experiences, a cascade of examples highlighting this inequality lined up (which I will share in another podcast). Today, I am thrilled to share my conversation with Carine de Meyere, Women's rights advocate. Please watch! Peter Schouten is a criminal defense lawyer: most of you will know him for his role in the Marengo process. He is also the author of Trial by Media, a successful entrepreneur, producer of the TV game-show Lingo, and co-founder of Project C, where he advocates for a more progressive cannabis policy.
Some of my most valuable insights into the challenges of legalization have come from Peter’s lessons learned during Project C.
Why should you care about the topic of decriminalization?
Because your children, your employees, and your friends are already engaging with these substances to improve their wellbeing and performance — while misinformation about both the benefits and the legal aspects continues to spread.
