Saturday Morning Cinema

For nearly as long as there have been television cartoons, there have theatrical films based on those cartoons. This show dares to ask the ultimate question- what if a couple of grown adults actually sat down to watch all of these things? From the cheapo '60s Hanna-Barbera productions, to the even cheaper feature-length toy commercials of the '80s, to the "generic male lead on a road trip with a CGI woodchuck" movies of the modern age, we're watching every single American film based on TV cartoons, discussing them, and hopefully keeping a grip on our sanity.

The End of Evangelion (1997)

We finally get to discuss not only a good one, but a great one, with 1997's End of Evangelion. Hear us discuss whether the show's religious subtext actually means anything. Hear us talk about the new Netflix release, and the absurd world of anime licensing. Hear us talk about Hideaki Anno's various neuroses that he spilled all over this movie. Come, join us, it's better here. Become one with the podcast. Embrace instrumentality.

Space Jam (1996)

In this episode, the podbois tackle the first of three classic(?) live action/animation hybrids, Space Jam. Hear Matt complain about how badly this movie disrespects cartoons that were made 50 years before he was born! Hear Jolson talk sports! Hear both of them cringe at the animators' weird fetishes! Hoo boy I tell ya, this is grade A podcasting right here!

Scoob (2020)

We're back from our long hiatus, and this time we're covering a new release! Hear the podbois discuss Scoob, a mess of a modern adaptation of Scooby Doo that definitely seemed like the worst thing going on in the world back when we recorded this. Weird times!

The Smurfs and the Magic Flute (1983)

In this week's episode, the podbois are jokerfied by the worst movie they've covered so far. Listen as we do everything we possibly can to avoid talking about Smurfs and the Magic Flute! Enjoy some wild tangents about Quibi and Harrison Ford's hatred of acting! This is a real weird one, folks!

Popeye (1980)
In this episode, we discuss Robert Altman's flawed but fascinating cult classic Popeye. Does the Fleischer brand of cartoon comedy work in live action? Should Robin Williams and Shelley Duvall have been nominated for Oscars for this? What is the deal with Popeye's arms? hear the answers to these questions and more in this week's episode of Saturday Morning Cinema! You can follow the hosts on twitter @JolsonTweets and @Fawfulator. The Man Called Flintstone (1966)

This week, the podbois struggle to wring 45 minutes of content out of The Man Called Flintstone, a 90-minute collection of rock puns. Thrill as this blandly competent spy caper slowly sucks the souls out of our bodies!
