The seemingly ordinary and unimpressive Saitama has a rather unique hobby: being a hero. In order to pursue his childhood dream, he trained relentlessly for three years—and lost all of his hair in the process. Now, Saitama is incredibly powerful, so much so that no enemy is able to defeat him in battle. In fact, all it takes to defeat evildoers with just one punch has led to an unexpected problem—he is no longer able to enjoy the thrill of battling and has become quite bored. This all changes with the arrival of Genos, a 19-year-old cyborg, who wishes to be Saitama's disciple after seeing what he is capable of. Genos proposes that the two join the Hero Association in order to become certified heroes that will be recognized for their positive contributions to society, and Saitama, shocked that no one knows who he is, quickly agrees. And thus begins the story of One Punch Man, an action-comedy that follows an eccentric individual who longs to fight strong enemies that can hopefully give him the excitement he once felt and just maybe, he'll become popular in the process.

Demon Slayer is a beloved anime, gifted with very devoted fans who are willing to consume its content in any way or form. Whatever came from the franchise, whether a TV season or a film, everything became a massive success. Yes, animated films do benefit from a higher production value, but their narrative structure is distinct from a series. Sometimes the makers go for a movie format because it provides bigger box office returns, but hardly take the narrative distinction into account.
The storyline of Demon Slayer is also fitting for a traditional anime series, where, usually, limited arcs get explored at a stretch for a season. For the finale, this would have been the best choice of action considering the episodic nature of the plotline. However, now, this ending is getting stretched into a long trilogy of movies, forcing unnecessary wait time on fans, who just received the first installment in 2025. This decision messes with the pace of the story, and a prime example of that is the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle movie.

Oshi fans have plenty to look forward to in the coming months, with the anime series set to return early next year with Season 3.
At the "TV Anime Oshi no Ko Kanto Noryo Matsuri" -- a two-day summer festival held at the Tokorozawa Sakura Town complex in Saitama, Japan -- more information was finally revealed for Oshi no Ko Season 3, which previously had only a ley visual, 30-second teaser trailer and broad 2026 release window to its name. The event live-streamed its special Season 3 panel, hosted by official voice actors Takeo Otsuka (Aqua Hoshino), Yurie Igoma (Ruby Hoshino), Megumi Han (Kana Arima), Manaka Iwami (Akane Kurokawa) and Rumi Okubo (Mem-Cho), where a release window was confirmed alongside a new key visual prominently starring Ruby.

Hikaru Tanaka, the son of renowned anime voice actor Atsuko Tanaka, has updated his official social media account with a message in memory of his mother, stating that he is "truly grateful to all the people who still express their feelings for her."
Atsuko Tanaka, known for voicing iconic anime characters such as Flamme in Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Lisa Lisa from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Hanami from Jujutsu Kaisen and of course, the original Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell, passed away at age 61 after suffering a year-long battle with an undisclosed illness. Her son, Hikaru Tanaka, also a voice actor, paid tribute to Tanaka on the date of the first anniversary of her death.

Crunchyroll announced the release date for its Blu-ray SteelBook release of Attack on Titan - Final Season. As the name suggests, the premium home media release collects the final episodes of Attack on Titan Season 4, consisting of Episodes 60-87 and two anime specials. In addition to Attack on Titan, Crunchyroll is offering more SteelBook Blu-ray releases for popular titles, such as Dragon Ball Super: Broly, as well as continuing its previous home media releases.

A new report reveals that Japan was able to successfully shut down an impressive 84 illegal anime streaming sites thanks to the help of government-supported hackers. Footage from the recently released Demon Slayer movie has been particularly troublesome in recent months.
Sankei reports that the Content Overseas Distribution Association (CODA) shared that a new international enforcement project utilizing white-hat hackers has forced the closure of 84 pirate sites as of March 2025. It was reported that the damage caused by illegal uploading of Japanese movies, anime and other entertainment in 2022 was between 1.95 trillion-2.202 trillion Japanese yen per year (~US$13.2 billion-$14.9 billion) -- and this number is likely even larger in more recent years. The Japanese government aims to increase the sale of its content overseas to 20 trillion yen (~US$135.5 billion) by 2033, and a firmer stance on piracy and mitigating its impact is one of the steps it is taking to help promote legitimate content that supports anime and manga creators.
