Are people abandoning the church, or is the church abandoning its people?Dan and Shannon Boeck are both too familiar with the effects of domestic abuse in Christian environments. Dan served as a pastor for almost 30 years before becoming the executive director at @CalledtoPeaceMinistries1 (CTPM). Shannon is a trained Domestic abuse advocate and works as a registered nurse in a trauma unit where she sees victims of domestic abuse daily. I was honored to interview Dan and Shannon as we explored the church’s role in either supporting or alienating survivors of domestic abuse. We discussed the critical need for church leaders to be educated on the dynamics of abuse in order to create safe spaces for survivors, the broader societal implications of abuse, and the positive change the church can champion when we respond well. Here is the first half of my second conversation with Hilda, where we discuss about Christian suffering. This is a heavy and sensitive topic which we tried to present with honesty and compassion, but we know that we can still fall short. So as you listen, I pray the Lord meets you where you are.
