This podcast is meant to be a platform that provides people from all walks of life the opportunity to discuss their experiences, with the hope of encouraging and emphasizing the importance for listeners to be open and vulnerable with their families, friends, and significant others. This podcast was birthed out of the sense of ill-preparedness felt by many young adults beginning their journeys into adulthood. I hope that conversations had on this podcast will not only provide solace for young adults but hopefully offer useful perspectives on a wide array of common experiences.

01 Transgenerational Trauma (with Dr. Dareen Basma)

Dr. Dareen Basma, Ph.D., LPC-MHSP (Carnegie Mellon University and Palo Alto University) joins me in today's episode to discuss what is a fairly recent research phenomenon, Transgenerational Trauma. Transgenerational Trauma is a psychological concept concerning the usually unintentional passing down of trauma across generations — by way of socialization — following prolonged or repeated exposure to triggers.

Dr. Basma is a therapist with the Counseling and Psychological Services at Carnegie Mellon University and a remote core faculty at Palo Alto University. Her research interests include Multicultural & Immigrant Experiences and Trauma; she has quite a number of published works in these areas.
