Of all the sermons or Bible lessons I have ever given in some 50 years plus of ministry I would say this is one that has impacted my life personally the most. I have recently listen to it several times and jotted down many notes as to the impact of four Christ-like character qualities given to us in Ephesians chapter 4:1,2 that results in the life of Christ being made manifest in believer's lives. The worthy walk is not me living my life for Christ; the Worthy Walk is Christ living His life through me. I still have a very long ways to go as to dying to self that Christ might live As I have prayerfully pondered this sermon the last few weeks I have prayerfully thought of the words of this hymn:
Not I, but Christ, be honored, loved, exalted;
Not I, but Christ, be seen, be known, be heard;
Not I, but Christ, in every look and action,
Not I, but Christ, in every thought and word.
Oh to be saved from myself dear Lord!
O to be lost in thee!

This podcast is the 2nd recording of two with Ben Solensky teaching. The first podcast was entitled: A Life and Legacy Consistent in Parental Devotion to God. In that podcast Ben began his Biblical explanation of how fathers can fulfill the admonition in Ephesians 6:4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. In this podcast he expands the understanding of the home, family, discipleship and also gives more wisdom a father needs to fulfill his responsibilities. There are so man Biblical principles he explains that helps a father understand the enabling God gives and also practical application of questions and protests that come up when a father honestly expresses: “I don’t know if I can do this and I’m not sure how to accomplish it. He shares wisdom that comes from considering the concept of spiritual families in the Bible by looking at a eunuch, Esther, Daniel in the O.T. and Paul, Jesus and in the New Testament. He then explains what does it look like to lead in Family Worship. He explains how to use the “Family Worship Bible Guide” with your family. He explains how to use promise and conditions verses to children in their relationship with the Lord. He explains the way of life ministry (as to both structured opportunities and spontaneous opportunities) to children especially as it relates to parents found in Deuteronomy. We also give examples of several ways to have family devotions with children. We conclude with much emphasis on the critical importance of prayer in parenting and ministry to children.
This message was preached by me January 22nd, 2017. It is all about heaven and a certain relationship with God the Father through His Son the Lord Jesus Christ. My son Joshua has been listening to my Gospel of John series on sermon audio and said this is the most impactful one as to his personal life. The wonders of Heaven and the wonders of knowing God in a personal way and the certainty of being with Him after death are major themes. There are many more applicable points about the believer's journey in this life including the certain hope that future generations of believers have regardless of how corrupt this present world becomes. ' Also, we all need to understand the root problem that short circuits relationship or fellowship with God -- clinging to our own way and trusting our own thoughts rather than God's truth in the Bible. It is given to Isaiah 58:7: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. Also, we explain that in eternity (in the New Heaven and the New Earth) there are both rewards and responsibilities. Also we explain that when God comforts and meets our needs in Christ, He wants us also to be a channel of the living water of His blessing and His comfort to others (John 7:38 2 Cor. 1:3,4) Multiple other Scriptures are given as to each truth being explained. I would encourage all those who listen to take time to look those verses up in the Bible and and ask God to give to you all the wisdom and application you need for your life in each area.
Someone reminded me today of this sermon I preached on Sunday February 5th, 2012. I do not remember the circumstances that brought this sermon about, but as I listened to it today March 21, 2024, I recognized there are critical answers to life situations that we all need to remember over and over again in our life's journey. It is one of the shorter sermons I ever preached but may be one of the most impactful sermons I ever preached. As I listened to myself preach it today I knew it was coming from the innermost part of my being. Tit 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

Luk 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Owen Nigh (age 18) joins me in this podcast. Owen and I begin the podcast with his testimony of how he received salvation by understanding and believing the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ. He explains how the injuries he sustained in a mountain bike accident brought him to a place of brokenness before God. I explain the gospel using the words of the hymn Owen and His dad recorded for this podcast. I mention the following Bible verses that those that are not saved could look up to understand salvation – Romans, 3:23, Hebrews 2:19, 2 Cor. 5:21, 1 John 4:10, 1 Peter 3:18 and Acts 16:31.

# 3 We then go into a long extended interaction on the Father / Son relationship. I was so encouraged by the enabling God gave by His Spirit to Owen and myself. With great joy I heard Owen testify in practical tangible ways what He has learned about life and God through His relationship with his dad. We had prayerfully been preparing for six weeks as to what God wanted us to share. Before we started the podcast we had a time of prayer together and specifically asked God to enable us to share anything that He knows is critically important in the father/son relationship that was not in our notes. There were multiple moments in this recording when God answered that prayer. This section is indeed the heart of this podcast.
David Gillette (my son-in-law) joins me in this podcast, A little over two months ago David was sharing with me about his pastor's preaching series on Isaiah 40. The more we talked the more we both got excited about the powerful impact this chapter of God's Word can have to encourage and strengthen believers especially in the light of the times in which we live. At that point we prayerfully began preparation to do a podcast together on this chapter. The first part of July I asked David to share his thoughts from this chapter at our family vacation during our time family worship. We were all encouraged as a family and had a number of testimonies afterwards concerning the greatness of our God in the midst of life's challenges. The more David and I interacted in preparation for this podcast it became clear that the greatest burden we both had was to somehow through this chapter see families, marriages, fathers and mothers strengthen spiritually. Isa 40:1-11 is the first half of the chapter. 40:1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. Isa 40:2 Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD'S hand double for all her sins. Isa 40:3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. Isa 40:4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: Isa 40:5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it. Isa 40:6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field: Isa 40:7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. Isa 40:10 Behold, the Lord GOD will come with strong hand, and his arm shall rule for him: behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him. Isa 40:11 He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.
Bob Clayton joins me in this podcast. We interact together on a number of subjects related to home, family, marriage and particularly matters relating to fathers. We also interact some concerning God's Comfort and God's Peace God gives to believers in spite of trials, adversities, afflictions etc. Bob shares about the goodness and mercy of God imparted to him in recent days as he has been going through his chemo treatments. He shares about the verse God used in His life when He was first saved. He also reviews how his father impacted his life. We talk together about Good News Club Ministries, Missions, and how our lives as believers should should be about serving and giving to others. I am so thankful to the Lord for making it possible he and I to record this podcast .
