In this episode Danny and I discuss Communion (or The Eucharist or The Lord's Supper). We discuss the elements, where in scripture we find the sacrament (or ordinance), and what it means to celebrate Communion. We find that this holy ceremony is a call to unity with Christ AND with the Church.
In our study on this topic, we found Francis Chan's views on Communion to be especially helpful.

In the first episode of 2024, we continue our conversation on Ecclesiology. We consider the issue of the sacraments (or ordinances, depending on your tradition). What are the sacraments, are they truly sacred practices, and how do they connect us to the divine?
Merry Christmas Eve!
Today is the last day of Advent, tomorrow is Christmas Day! In this episode, we discuss the theme of love. How do we know what love is? What do we do with love?
We look at John 3:16, Romans 5:8, and 1 John 4:10 and discuss the role of love in our lives.
Thank you for joining us on our journey through Advent.
In Philippians 4:4 Paul encourages Christians to rejoice. In fact, he believes it so strongly he says it twice.
How can we experience joy even in dark circumstances? How do we rejoice regardless of what is going on around us?
In this episode, we explore Philippians 4, the story of Job, and Hebrews 11 as we discuss how to find joy in faith.
This week's episode is all about peace.
If Jesus is considered the Prince of Peace, what does that mean for us? Does it mean we will never experience pain or conflict? Will things always be calm in our lives? If they aren't calm, does that mean we've messed up somehow?
Explore and meditate with us on what it means for Jesus to be peace even in the midst of the storm.
Welcome to Advent, the season leading up to Christmas.
Advent comes from the Latin Adventus, meaning "arrival" or "coming." Traditionally, the season was one of waiting and longing expectantly for the coming Messiah. It is commemorated in songs like "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel" and "Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus." The season reminds us of the expectancy of Jesus' incarnation and comforts us as we look forward to his triumphant return!
Advent spans the four Sundays leading up to Christmas Day. The theme of week 1 is Hope.
In this episode, Danny and I trace denominations from the Reformation into the modern day. We use a graphic to show the descent of denominations and influential people who were involved in those traditions.
Happy Reformation Day!
In this episode, we continue our conversation on Church history by talking about the Reformation. We start by considering the origins of the Reformation with John Wycliffe and Jan Hus, then spend the majority of time considering Martin Luther's (in)famous act of nailing his 95 theses to the door of the Wittenberg church.
In the previous episode, we concluded with the question, "Do I have to be a member of a church?" In this episode, we tackle the follow-up question, "Which church should I choose?"
We discuss Church History, denominationalism, and church splits, all with the goal of remembering Paul's call to unity in the faith.
Unity in the Church is essential. The Apostle Paul routinely wrote about unity to the new churches around the Mediterranean. If brand new churches needed to be reminded to be unified with each other, surely we need the same reminder today.
We also briefly address the issue of church membership. Do Christians really have to be a member of a local church?
We're starting a new series on Ecclesiology, the study of the Church.
What (who) is the church really? What are the primary functions of the church? These are a couple of questions we answer in the first episode of this series.
In this episode we conclude our conversation about the Holy Spirit by answering a listener question: can we pray to the Holy Spirit?
This week is a special episode. We interview Matt Darby, pastor of New Beginnings Baptist Church in Gilmer, TX. Matt shares with us how the Holy Spirit is moving in New Beginnings and what they have experienced through faithful prayer and pursuit of the Holy Spirit.
This episode is longer than we typically run.
This is our third conversation about the Holy Spirit. In this episode we discuss the gifting of the Holy Spirit and how those gifts are always meant to edify and build up the Body of Christ.
We reference three passages specifically: Romans 12, 1 Corinthians 12, and Ephesians 4.
In this episode we answer our first listener question and then explore the work of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost and in the book of Acts.
In our first episode about the Holy Spirit, we introduce the person and explore some of his names and attributes. Aside from scripture, we reference two different works on the Holy Spirit: The Person and Work of The Holy Spirit by R. A. Torrey - https://www.gutenberg.org/files/30241/30241-pdf.pdf Forgotten God by Francis Chan - https://www.amazon.com/Forgotten-God-Reversing-Tragic-Neglect/dp/1434767957
In our final (for now) conversation about soteriology we ask the question "Can anyone be saved?"
The third part of our conversation on salvation. In this episode, we attempt to answer the question "What must I do to be saved?" We spend most of our time in Romans 10 but also address Luke 18, the story of the Rich Young Ruler.
Part two of our ongoing conversation about Soteriology, the study of salvation.
In this episode we work through Romans 4 & 5 while also spending some time in Ephesians 2. This week we ask the question "what makes a man (person) righteous?
We're back! After a couple of weeks off due to power outages and vacation, we're back at the podcast. This week is episode 1 (of probably several) of Soteriology, the study of salvation. We begin working our way through Paul's letter to the church in Rome and discuss the doctrine of total depravity and the effects of sin.
