The following Pause for Parenting programme examine the Positive and Negative expressions of Parental love with Parenting Consultant Donna Tull Cox. Mrs Tull Cox explains the importance of examining the relationship when one is thinking of becoming a parent and also the need to review the way you were raised and make some decisions as to how you are going to raise your child.

Dr. Alison Bernard a pediatrician and cofounder of the Breastfeeding and the Child Nutrition foundation also explains that while breastfeeding can be hard the benefits outweigh the difficulties.

Melena who is Motivational Speaker and an Emotional Intelligence facilitator explains the importance of forgiveness in families starting with forgiveness of self, children and other family members. Once practice, forgiveness creates peace and harmony in the family. She explains that while it’s not easy it’s essential for families to practice.
The following Pause for Parenting programme looks at the Court Process. This programme which is final prog in the first series produced in collaboration with the Barbados Bar Association examines how one should first try to deal with issues before approaching the Court for a solution. It also looks at difference between the Magistrate Court and the High Court. It and Court Etiquette. Sumaya Desai an Attorney at Law representing the Bat Association provides the answers to these questions and more.
The following Pause for Parenting programme looks at Why Environment matters in relation to the fight against Obesity. This programme which is produced in collaboration the Childhood Obesity Prevention Coalition features Dr. Kia Lewis who explains why the environment matters and why what children see and hear in school and home and in society in general can affect what they desire and consume . Dr Lewis shares tips for parents to use to in the home to help in the fight against obesity.

The following Pause for Parenting programme looks at the theme and other related matters for Drug aware mothers which was highlighted in January. The theme “Strengthening a Prevention “ and it’s importance in the fight against drug addiction was examined by Nicolette Williams who works at the Substance Abuse foundation as a Creative Arts Psychotherapist/Addition Counselor and child & Adolescent Mental Health therapist.Ms Williams shared that the status of substance abuse in Barbados should be a cause of concern for everyone, she highlighted the role of parents and adults to protect their children and do all in their power not to expose or encourage them to use illegal drugs.
The following Pause for Parenting programme looks at the rights of children to healthy food and the responsibility of parents to ensure that children have access to healthy foods. Francine Charles who is the Programme Manager for the Childhood Obesity Programme, shared about the work of the programme and the concern that the rights of children are not being met by some parents. She pointed out the results of when children do not have access to healthy foods or exercise and the high incidences of non communicable disease among children.
The following Pause for Parenting programme features Regina Selma-Moore a Counseling Psychologist as she shares on the topic Conflict Resolution. Mrs Selma who provides her services for PAREDOS and Supreme Services explains that since it is impossible to avoid conflict, how we react and deal with it is going to be key. She gave tips to parents on how they can handle it in the home. She also touches on the fact that our reaction to conflict is usually dependent on our relationship with the person who we are in conflict with.
The following Pause for Parenting Programme looks at Paternity with attorney Ms. Sumaya Desai who represented the Barbados Bar Association.
Ms Desai explained that paternity speaks to the father of the child and why it is important for a child to know who his or her father is. She explained that if a person who is named as a father is in doubt he can ask for a test. Paternity test can be done before the child is born.
This Pause for Parenting programme looks at ADHD in children and adults. Al Layne, a Psychotherapist and family therapist who also has the disorder, explains the evolution of this disorder and how parents and teachers can handle children in their care. He also explains the importance of testing and early diagnosis along with the treatment.
Three young men from the child care board discuss how to uplift children through sports, activities and camps to help children update their life skills.
The following Pause for Parenting programmes is the second in a four part series focusing on Men as we celebrate Father’s Day on June 16th. In this programme Arlington Daniel shares his story of growing up in a dis functional household and how it affected him. He shares how his drug use eventually led to him being arrested, convicted and spending 13 years In jail. Now out of jail and on a new path, this Father of one shared how he survived it all and is now trying to be the father he never had.
