Did you know that 90% of unintentional gun death victims were male.
Unintentional Gun Injury is the leading cause of death in children over the age of 1.
We need Gun control Now!
In this episode we talk about Gun control, Lethal means safety counseling, keeping our kids safe and educating our community on the correct way to store a gun in your home. We hope this conversation helps to reduce unintentional gun deaths and injuries, as we focus on increasing awareness of the dangers of owning a gun especially when one has not had the proper training on firearm use.
We know that ultimately we need changes in the laws, but until then we are here to promote safer storage, encourage individuals to be educated responsible owners and most importantly informed parents.

If you said yes to any of these questions this episode is for you!

Episode 11: "CALL ME DOCTOR" features Dr Kristen Scatliffe, Dr Jana McKenzie and Dr. Kandice Waul Bennett discussing micro-agressions that black women commonly face. We break down the label: "Angry black woman" and the impact it has on our community. We discuss the importance of #mentorship #education #knowingthehistory and #knowledgeofself
Our special guest for this episode is Dr. Stephanie Desgrottes A general pediatrician based in Brooklyn, New York. After several years of practice as an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Columbia University Medical Center, she ventured back into private practice at Tribeca Pediatrics, where she has now been practicing for 3 years. She is also passionate about global health, and enjoys leading and developing inter-institutional health care initiatives alongside the University of Southern California-Providence Group, and HGD Medical Center, a community health center based in the rural town of Chabanne, Haiti.
One woman decided to take a stand! She decided to address the "not so" micor-aggression that she was confronted with. She remained calm, cool and collected. She stood up for herself. When she did this she effectively stood for all #blackwomen and created an opportunity to bring to light to a very serious topic. #racialgaslighting. Her name is Dr Rosario, and this episode is dedicated to her. Racial Gaslighting is the product of a society riddled with #white privilege #entitlement and #implicit bias. Racism—both interpersonal and structural, negatively affects the mental and physical health of millions of people, especially those in #BIPOC communities.
Our conversation with Camile Roney is what Healthy Mentorship sounds like!
As physicians mentorship is a part of our journey. Guiding future female physicians into healthy and successful careers where they feel fulfilled is a gift that keeps giving. The greatest lesson from mentorship is that learning doesn't happen in one direction! While it is our responsibility to provide support and guidance we should also leave room to learn from our mentees.
Our guest is a vibrant and inspiring woman who uses her social media platform to help so many others get through this thing called life while pursuing her own academic goals. She is a Canadian pre-med student, mother and a wife. She dreams of being a family medicine physician. One who actually connects with her patients and recognizes the growing disparities they have to overcome to receive care. #Motherhood has energized her journey. She sits down with us to share the pieces of her puzzle. From her almost 3 year old boy and the 18,000 steps on Fitbit she gets in , to her ability to recognize when she needs help, to her personal journey in self care.
This episode is filled with inspiring moments of women supporting women.

Dr Jana Mckenzie, Dr Kandice Waul Bennet discuss with Dr Kristen Scatliffe and Dr Akua Ampadu about the balance required to have a family and a career in medicine.
Some of the questions they address:
Dear Patient,
This episode was produced and directed for you! For each and every one of our patients. From those we see in the outpatient clinics to those we admit in the hospital and even those we tend to in urgent care. We wanted to take this opportunity to educate and enlighten our patients on some of the basics of healthcare.
Every physician has had the thoughts we verbalize in this episode.
From inhalers to antibiotics, from bed placement to billing each of us take time to share one or two pearls of wisdom and explain how things really occur and what every patient should know when seeking care.
We discuss why knowing the names of your medications and why you are taking them is so very important, Why following our instructions is key for your improvement. We talk about the cost of medications and hospital visits and who is really in control of the bill.
This episode presents the physician's perspective #POV in an effort to help our patients see both sides of the coin.
Dr Akua Ampadu, Dr Kandice Waul Bennett, Dr Emily Shay and Dr Kristen Scatliffe have a fun and honest discourse we hope you enjoy.
In this episode, Mrs Wilma King Bennett tells her story. Her battle with cancer and the experiences she faced. She allows herself to be vulnerable and share intimate details so that the cycle can be broken. Black women are categorically ignored and we have too many stories of patient experiences where they felt ignored, not heard, or their pain was minimized, or they weren't involved in their plan of care. Implicit Bias and Structural Racism can affect the doctor-patient interaction in many ways. Advocating for the underrepresented and marginalized is impossible if we don't listen.
We decided to use our platform to give narratives like hers a place to be heard. We discuss her views on several topics and her recent life-changing diagnosis. MDFEME is committed to making the voices of those who have been ignored and silenced heard!

(Episode recorded live so the sounds of the city are present)
This is for the culture! For the Allies who want to learn. For the physicians who want to be the change they want to see. For the patients who want to help. If we have learned anything from James Baldwin it should be that a thing can not be changed if it is not confronted.
Racism exists. Implicit Bias is real. Racism is Learned. Slavery was fundamental to the foundation of this American nation and the machinery of capitalism. The effects still ripple through out current society.
If we can agree on this then we are starting in the right direction. We are sharing common ground.
Being thoroughly educated on what structural racism is, and how pervasive and permeating it is to our way of life is the first step to dismantling it and changing its effects.
Dr Kandice Waul and Dr Kristen Scatliffe have a one on one convo about what it means to the community and how understanding the history and the current climate is the only way to formulate solutions that will lead to its dismantling.

In this episode we focus on one of the most difficult and sensitive topics in medicine, End of Life decisions and Goals of Care.
When asked what patient's wanted from physicians at this difficult juncture in their lives most answered: clarity, transparency or honesty.
Palliative Care focuses on helping individuals with serious diagnoses at any stage of illness with the total effort of an interdisciplinary care team coordinating their care from the time of diagnosis throughout treatment to directives and assigning a proxy.
Our guest on this episode helps give patient’s a voice at the most difficult times in their lives.
Dustin Suanino MD is a physician Faculty member in Palliative and Geriatric Medicine At NYU Langone. A Board certified Internal Medicine physician who completed his residency at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. During his residency he served as chief resident and was honored with the Humanism Award in Internal Medicine. He then went on to complete an integrated Geriatric and Palliative Medicine fellowship at Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He has a special interest in the education of palliative medicine. He is passionate about advocating for patients at the most difficult times in their lives.
He is joined by Dr Emily Shay (Infectious Disease and Critical Care) and Dr Kristen Scatliffe (Pulmonary Critical Care) as they discuss how to approach goals of care, prognosis and code status.
We take time to clarify terms often used and help guide #practitioners on how to improve this necessary skill. Throughout #medicalschool #residency and even #fellowship we admit when interacting with our past teaching attendings we were people pleasers. We did all that we could to get the glowing #LORs (letters of recommendations). We went above and beyond like most of us do. However, in hindsight (which is always 20/20) We now see that we learned behavior that would prove harmful to our careers.
So to all of our past Attendings here are the things we wish we said...
