S1 Special: Am I Dreaming? | The Skit Called Nigeria

What in the Nigerian dream is this?

Going from childhood ambitions of being lawyers, fashion designers, and robotics engineers, to growing up and just wanting stable light and a little peace of mind, this episode explores the skit that is chasing dreams as a young person in Nigeria.

We talk about the dreams we had, the shift that came with “reality,” and how many young Nigerians today are just trying to survive. Because when the system is broken, what does it mean to still have ambition? Is there even such a thing as the Nigerian Dream, or are we all winging it at this point?

This is The Skit Called Nigeria — a special from Life is a Skit.

Making Space For You

In between the cycle, we still owe it to ourselves to be… well, ourselves.

In this episode, Sam is joined by Trust and Fathia to talk about something that’s been on all our minds lately: how do you hold on to yourself when you’re stuck in the cycle of school, work, and adulting in Nigeria?

We talk about the fear of becoming strangers to ourselves, and how we’re finding pockets of joy in the mundane. Trust shares how sewing helps him stay sane. Fathia finds peace in cooking and the simple act of plating food with care. And together, we all reflect on what life might look like if money weren’t in the picture.

This one’s for anyone caught in the grind, trying to stay sane and stay connected to the part of themselves that feels most alive.

Be part of the conversation and let us know what you would be doing instead if you didn’t have to chase money or earn a degree.

Life is a Skit
Soft Life Budget

Being broke has never looked so good.

In this episode, we’ve got Felix, who’s already broke in the second week of May and finally believes in budgeting; Bolu, who dropped a budgeting masterclass and still makes room for gifting others (even when her savings are saving her); and Samuel, battling soft life cravings, and the rude awakening of financial responsibility.

We talk about the illusion of wealth that comes with living a subsidised life, the journey into financial responsibility — whether by living alone or suddenly being handed house bills — and the realisation that some things aren’t scalable.

We also get into how inflation is making us buy wants now before the price triples next week; why some lessons can't be taught, only lived; Relationship billings and financial sacrifice, and the very real fact that savings can sometimes leave you broke too.

This episode is for anyone learning to be responsible, not because they want to… but because adulthood doesn’t work on vibe spending.

Be part of the conversation and tell us one thing you’ll spend money on, no matter how broke you are.

Life is a Skit
Children of Nowadays

In this episode, Sam, Saraunia, and Mmesoma talk about how we see culture as young Nigerians today.

Whether it's replying in English when someone speaks to you in your native tongue, to feeling "half in, half out" of your roots, we share some personal stories of navigating identity, family dynamics, and the whole multicultural remix happening around us.

Sam reflects on how returning to his hometown helped him reconnect with his family history alongside Saraunia, who shares what it's like living between two cultures, and Mmesoma, who low-key identifies with another culture.

We also get into how schools made speaking your native language feel "razz," why accents matter, the tribal stereotypes and biases passed down, and the intentional work that goes into unlearning those stereotypes and embracing culture.

Why Am I Still Scrolling?

We grew up with the internet, but we’re still figuring out how to live with it.

In this episode, Samuel is joined by Enoch, a video editor & creative, and Kems, a freelancing product designer, for a conversation about what it feels like to come of age online. They talk about how social media went from “just vibes” to something that can shape identity, career, and creativity.

Enoch reflects on wanting his page to represent who he's becoming and how documenting growth became a form of storytelling. Kems talks about why being intentional about who you follow matters more than you think and finding peace in muting people.

Plus some FOMO confessions, screen time guilt, and finding ways to stay grounded in an online world that’s always doing the most.

Life is a Skit
It’s Not You, It’s Proximity

Sometimes, a status reply to a TikTok video could be all it takes to deepen a connection.

So far, friendships seem to just happen. You didn’t have to think too hard about keeping in touch, proximity did the work for you. But now? Between work, life changes, and distance, keeping up with friends takes effort.

In this episode, Sam, Ibitein, and Mark sit down to talk about how friendships are shifting. How do you even make new friends as an adult? Are we still friends because we want to be, or is it just proximity?

Sam talks about realising not everyone has to be your friend, Mark tries to break down what makes the bond between guys different, while Ibitein shares how "you’re a different friend to all your friends” and why NYSC might have something to do with her hesitation to call people friends straight away.

Post Graduation Therapy

Four years of writing exams and constant group chat banter, but now people are asking "How’s work?" instead of "How are you?" 😭

In this episode of Life Is a Skit, Samuel is joined by Bishop and Etini to discuss the reality checks that hit after school. From missing the forced proximity of school friendships to realising nobody is sponsoring your ministry anymore (because, apparently, you're earning salary now).

We also talk about the transition into "the real world", imposter syndrome, and why your first and most important network might just be the people you shared a lecture hall with.

Oh, and a pro tip from Etini: maybe wait till you graduate before falling for your coursemates.

Life is a Skit
Being a Student in The T-Pain Era

The character building of schooling in Nigeria is unmatched. (smiles in shege)

In this episode, Samuel lets Tomiwa and Ire—4th year architecture and engineering students—air their frustrations about navigating the Nigerian education system. From outdated curriculums to an environment that often stifles creativity, it can feel like the system is designed to test endurance more than intellect.

Tomiwa shares how the struggle to make extra money has led many students to risky money-making schemes (cough cough sporty). Meanwhile, Ire’s number one battle—outside his books—is simply figuring out how to eat. In an era where everyday feels like a rainy day, you quickly learn there’s no shame in drinking garri. Just make sure the water is cold.

We also get into how the grading system rewards cramming over actual understanding (even for programming??), the financial struggles that push students into endless hustles and feeding formations, plus the intense competition, that causes fellow students to move like saboteurs.

Something On The Side

Life served with a side of hustle.

These days, having a side hustle as a young person almost feels like a must. But do we really need one?

In this episode, Samuel is joined by Naomi, the lowkey business mogul, and Tunmise, the freelancing senior dev, to explore why young people are taking on multiple gigs(4 remote gigs at once?!). Is it the economy, our culture, or just a deep-seated fear of being broke?

We also hear from Naomi on how the shege of running a business taught her more about herself. Plus, Tunmise shares why he always feels like someone is out to cheat him on gigs (someone, please give this man a hug) and how to possibly avoid the same fate.

Chasing The Glow-Up

What kind of glow-up are you after?

For some, it’s the career flex. For others, it’s the aesthetics, the lifestyle, or just finally getting 8 hours of sleep (Issa can relate). And for Georgia? A washing machine might just be the ultimate success story.

In this episode, Samuel chats with Issa and Georgia to unpack the meaning of a “glow up” today. We talk personal wins, social media image, shifting definitions of success, and the things we're chasing.

Because at the end of the day, is glow-up culture really about growth—or just good PR?

2000 Kids Are Now Adults

In this episode, Samuel is joined by Mark and Ellie as they take a nostalgic trip back to the early 2000s, reflecting on what growing up felt like and how childhood expectations often collide with the truths of adult life.

From navigating independence to handling the immediate surprises of being an adult, they share stories highlighting how these experiences shape their shifting perspectives. Whether it’s learning to let people show you who they are, understanding that everyone reveals different sides of themselves, or the importance of having a strong support system, this conversation looks into the lessons that come with growing up.
