Ed Gein, also known as the Butcher of Plainfield or the Plainfield Ghoul, was an American convicted murderer and body snatcher. Gein's crimes, committed around his hometown of Plainfield, Wisconsin, gathered widespread notoriety in 1957 after authorities discovered he had exhumed corpses from local graveyards and fashioned trophies and keepsakes from their bones and skin. Gein also confessed to killing two women: tavern owner Mary Hogan in 1954 and hardware store owner Bernice Worden in 1957.

Peter Sutcliffe is a prolific English serial killer who was dubbed the 'Yorkshire Ripper' by the press. On 22 May 1981, Sutcliffe was convicted of murdering 13 women and attempting to murder seven others. He is serving 20 concurrent sentences of life imprisonment which was increased to a whole life order in 2010. All except two of his murders took place in West Yorkshire, the others were in Manchester.

Described as a “sexually sadistic psychopath”, Ian Brady and his accomplice Myra Hindley carried out the notorious Moors Murders that horrified a nation. The couple were responsible for the torture and deaths of five children, aged between 10 and 17 during the early to mid-1960s in and around Greater Manchester. Despite their trial for five murders in 1966, the real extent of Brady and Hindley’s crime did not come to light until 1985 and both maintained their innocence until this time.
