Society and its members are always trying to squeeze us into a box, based on our age, gender, race, religion, vices and addictions, education level, political party, zodiac sign, hair color, sexual preference, trauma, the list goes on and on. Perhaps life was created this way intentionally, and like a game, we must work together to break out of our boxes in order to beat each level in the game. I find myself constantly falling for the mentality that I have to act or think or speak or look a certain way based on whatever box I'm finding myself in so I've created this podcast to constantly push myself to break out of the box and hopefully be able to help others do the same, because from my experience thus far, IT'S DEADLY IN THE BOX. Join me as I navigate the waters of overcoming the demons that keep me in the box through sharing on this platform and speaking with guests who share their own stories of overcoming. Everyone has a story, and that in itself is an extremely powerful weapon we can use to fight against the darkness. Let's raise our voices and share our stories, learn from each other, encourage one another, to overcome these little devils, send them back to hell, and level-up in life.

It's Deadly in the Box
Overcoming: Failure

Welcome back to another episode of It's Deadly in the Box, where we talk about overcoming the matrix that is our society!

TRIGGER WARNING: eating disorder, substance abuse, attempted suicide, domestic abuse

I'm so very excited and honored to introduce to you our guest for today. Her and I go way back. We met in 2016 while bartending at a sushi restaurant. We became really close friends, bonding over our shared love for Mr. Jameson, Don Julio, and dancing. We were wild then, in our mid 20’s, feeling invincible and on top of the world. But unfortunately, life caught up to us and we learned we weren’t: the hard way. After many hard life lessons, she’s been there for me and I’ve done my best to be there for her. She’s taught me so much about the beauty of friendship, of the art of being yourself, of overcoming whatever life throws at you, and the importance of living outside of the box. She is an example of a modern day wonder woman and I’m so proud and blessed to call her one of my very best friends. She is relentless in her pursuit of reaching her potential and doing whatever it takes to be an example for her daughter. Please join me in giving a very warm welcome to my very dear friend, Jackie Cisneros!

(This interview was also recorded on my camera to be viewed on YouTube)

Have a fantastic week, I'll catch you guys next time.

It's Deadly in the Box
Overcoming: Loneliness

Hello all you beautiful people,
Welcome back to another box to break out of!

Today's topic of overcoming: Loneliness.

Today’s guest comes to us from Chicago, Illinois. His mission in life is helping people create lasting and fulfilling friendships and relationships in the hopes of tackling the loneliness epidemic in the world. Growing up, he thought he knew what to do when it came to making friends, and even though he had friends, he still found himself feeling very lonely. Since then, he has dedicated his life to learning how to overcome this obstacle in order to help others overcome their loneliness that comes from not making close friends, because life feels more complete when you have people to share it with. Wouldn’t you agree? He is also a transman, and though being trans is not the crux of his message, he shares it as part of the journey to demonstrate vulnerability which helps build the intimacy needed to develop deeper relationships. Please join me in giving a nice, warm welcome to Coach Lee Hopkins!

It's Deadly in the Box
Overcoming: Imposter Syndrome

Hello everyone, and welcome back to another episode of "It's Deadly in the Box"!

I am super duper excited for you guys to listen to today's episode, it's one I've been wanting to do for months now, so hooray to finally getting to say "it's up"!

Today, I have the huge honor and pleasure of interviewing a dear friend of mine from high school; shoutout to Los Osos High! Our guest tunes in from Long Beach, California where she currently resides with her husband. She is a first generation Filipino-American, creator and owner of Foodologie Baked goods, a business she started during the pandemic that has had massive success since and is continuously growing. She is also creator of Baked Goods for the Greater Good, where she donates baked goods and proceeds from her sales to both local and worldwide organizations. She is a powerhouse, an empowered woman leader, and has been such a positive role model in my life (especially when I first got sober). She is Maria Leyesa-Perez.

This is an episode you definitely should pull out some paper and pen for to take notes because she drops a lot of success tips and wisdom bombs! I hope you're able to get what you need out of today's episode to take that step forward in breaking out of the box today, 'cause believe me, it's gets real deadly in there.

It's Deadly in the Box
Overcoming: Sexual Abuse + Suicide

Hello! Welcome back to another episode!

I apologize for the break, I was working on other projects, moved, and traveled here to Mexico where I'll be staying with my cousin Floresita for the month of May. I'm still working on staying consistent, so thank you for being patient with me. I'm excited to be able to continue to spread hope and encouragement to you.

Today I bring you a very strong and courageous guest with a very powerful story of overcoming not one but MANY obstacles. She is a modern day superhero, surviving what she went through to now helping others face their obstacles.

I hope you are able to get some strength out of today's episode to fight the demons in your life that keep you in the darkness, keep you in your box, just like Charlene did, like I'm doing, and all us fighters are doing. You are not alone in this fight!

It's Deadly in the Box
Overcoming: Childhood Trauma

Hello hello!

Welcome back to "It's Deadly in the Box" where we talk all things related to overcoming. I hope today's episode inspires, encourages, and motivates you to break out of whatever box life has currently stuffed you in.

I'm really excited to introduce to you our guest for today: Ann Hince. She comes to us from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada in Northern California. She lives there with her husband, teenage son and two dogs Dobby and Winky (her eldest son is off living life.) She’s a two-time president of different toastmasters clubs, giving talks and teaching classes on many subjects for over two decades which have prepared her for her current mission as a professional speaker, author, and spiritual teacher. Without giving too much away, she has been able to change the alignment of her eye sockets, the straightening of her neck, the centering of her lower jaw, the growth of her tooth roots, and a growth of half an inch in height at the age of 55 using solely the focus of her mind. Her story of overcoming is a powerful story and very inspiring, as well as her message to us all.

It's Deadly in the Box
Overcoming: Stage 4 Breast Cancer

Hello my beautiful people,
welcome back to another episode!

I'm sorry it's taken me a while to upload a new episode, I've been busy translating and editing the interview I did with my cousin, Floresita, since it's was in Spanish and I really want my English speaking audience to be able to listen to her story and her message of hope and encouragement. So alas, it is finished! As the saying goes, all good things take time.

My cousin, Floresita, was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in January of this year (2022). Since then, she has faced many tough challenges and tests of faith, yet through it all she still maintains her light, kindness, and her devotion to God. How is she able to do so? We go deep in this interview.

I hope you get something out of today's episode,
until next time,
Peace and Love.

It's Deadly in the Box
Overcoming: Diabetes

Hey guys, welcome back to another episode!

Today's episode consists of an incredible testimony of how a man defied science and overcame diabetes, when it was supposed to send him into a coma, he came out of it fine and well, and better yet, ALIVE. This story is yet another true story that shows us the power of prayer and faith to help us break out of our own box we're currently in. God is so good, but we've been lied to about the true essence of God, which has caused so many of us to turn away and follow our own path and lean on our own strength which always ends in failure. As I learn and seek more of who God really is, through my personal relationship and through the stories of others, I share with you all so we can continue to have breakthrough in our lives and claim victory over the darkness who so badly wants to keep us in our deadly box.

I hope you enjoy today's episode and let me know how it personally spoke to you.

Have a wonderful week and I'll see you next week.

Peace,

Tiff

It's Deadly in the Box
Overcoming: Bewitchment

Welcome back to another episode of "It's Deadly in the Box"!

Today's episode is quite an interesting tale, a true story at that, one in which we don't come across too often here in the western part of the world, but which is prevalent in other parts of the world, which happens to involve the spiritual side of life. My guest today dials in from Mombasa, Kenya sharing an obstacle he faced when he was 16, when his neighbor bewitched him, how it affected him, and how he, through the grace of God, overcame that obstacle. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary, bewitch is defined as "to influence or affect especially injuriously by witchcraft" and "to cast a spell over". This stuff isn't just in the movies ya'll, this stuff is real and it happens all the time all around us and goes unnoticed and silenced. His story helps us gain a closer look at this phenomenon as well as the proper tools to overcome it if and when we or those close to us face something similar.

I hope you're able to move out of the box a little bit more today, because real life is waiting for us just right outside of it. Have a wonderful rest of your day, and until next time, peace and love.

It's Deadly in the Box
Overcoming: Sugar Addiction

Hello and welcome back to another episode!

Today's guest, Pim Jansson, and I dive deep into her journey with overcoming sugar addiction and the impact that has made on her life. This topic is sort of a taboo in our culture, because so many of us have this addiction which most of us would deny is even an addiction! Sadly, it is the silent but very deadly killer here in the U.S.  Luckily, she provides us with practical tools on how to overcome not only sugar addiction, but addiction in general, and her message for all of us is a powerful one, so make sure to listen 'till the end.

It's Deadly in the Box
Overcoming: Bullying

Hello here! And welcome back to another episode.

Today’s guest is someone who faced many obstacles and traumas in life but didn’t let them break her down. She faced extensive bullying for the way she talked, dressed, looked, and simply just for being herself. This led to her growing up with very low self-esteem and desperately looking to be loved for who she really is. Her journey led her to therapy, and that along with her passions helped her heal her self-esteem. Now, she spreads her message of taking ownership of yourself and learning to stand up for yourself to the bullies and haters in the world, something we all face at one point or another. Doing this has helped her heal and love herself the way she always wanted to be loved.

I hope you enjoy today's episode, and, if you aren't already marching to the beat of your own drum, I hope this episode helps you do just that :)

Love always,
Tiffany Yi

It's Deadly in the Box
Overcoming: Alcoholism | My Story

Hello hello,
Hope you are having a wonderful day today.
Today's episode isn't a very enjoyable one, but it is a very real one indeed.
Today I dive into my history with Alcoholism and my journey on overcoming this obstacle that has plagued not only myself, but going back to my ancestors.

What I hope to accomplish with this episode is to stop being ashamed of my addiction and to be able to reach a place where I can comfortably talk about it and share my story in order to help at least one other person face their own addiction. I was finally able to recognize the damage it was doing to my life, my relationships, and my future because of the stories I heard others share vulnerably. So I pay it forward with my own.

Thanks for listening and I hope you gain the courage and the strength to rise up over your obstacles and face your demons head on and claim victory over them. Woo! We in this together!

It's Deadly in the Box
Overcoming: Poverty

Welcome to my first interview!

Today, I have the special opportunity to interview Dr. Maxwell E. Uduafemhe. Without giving too much of it away, his story is about growing up in Nigeria and overcoming poverty by changing the narrative of his family history by catching and selling edible frogs to pay for his education to then grow up to receive three degrees as well as a PhD in Industrial and Technology Education.

The questions he answers in this episode are:
1. What obstacle did you go face getting to where you are today?
2. How did you cope/deal with the pain that came with the obstacle?
3. How did you learn or where did you get the strength to overcome that obstacle/adversity?4. What message do you have to my listeners that pertains to your story of overcoming?
5. Where can my listeners get in touch with you or learn more about you?

I hope his story inspires and encourages you to swallow your excuses and just go for that thing you've been wanting to go for your whole life.

Thank you for listening, have a wonderful, blessed day :)

Sincerely,
Tiffany Yi

It's Deadly in the Box
Episode 1 - Welcome to my podcast!

Hello, hello, welcome to my podcast! I don't have a name for it yet, I'm still trying to figure it out as I go along (I'm taking suggestions if you have any!).

I started this project primarily as a way to help me stick to my sobriety, as an outlet to speak about my experience honestly and genuinely as I possibly can. I also hope to interview others who have overcome or are in the middle of overcoming obstacles, hurdles, addictions, traumas, any sort of hardship in their life in order to help me stay encouraged and encourage you, the listener, as well, whether you're facing something similar or know someone who might be facing something similar.

The older I get, the more I realize just how important community is and the power of sharing your story with one another. It's such a beautiful gift from God to be able to connect with strangers and see just how similar we are, no matter the age, skin color, religion, gender, etc. We all go through obstacles and face our own individual demons, and hearing other people's stories of how they overcame them helps us learn how to overcome our own.

I'm really happy to finally start this podcast because it's been an idea in my head for so long (I actually attempted to start one 3 years ago and quit because I was still dealing with my addiction.) But today, I am almost 3 months sober, with a much clearer mind and laser sharp focus to give birth to this baby and not kill it prematurely. I will feed it, nurture it, treat it with the utmost love and care so it grows to help better our world, in whatever way that looks like, only time will tell.

Thank you for taking interest and I hope you leave encouraged, uplifted, joyful, and more at peace than before. Stay tuned for Episode 2!

Sincerely,
Tiffany Dawn Yi
