Kaitlyn and Heather discuss the difference between talents and spiritual gifts. A spiritual gift is a special divine empowerment given to each believer by the Holy Spirit to accomplish a given type of ministry.
Oftentimes our gifts don't come natural to us. That's why we must rely on God to help us with what He's called us to do.
1 Corinthians 12:4 tells us, "Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit." Everyone's gifting will look different, but we are united in the fact that we're putting our faith in Jesus.
And 1 Corinthians 12:1 says, "Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy." Our motivation for using our spiritual gifts should come from a place of loving God and loving others.

What does it mean to meditate? Kaitlyn and Heather discuss what meditation is, what it can look like and how we can use it to grow closer to God. Joshua 1:8 says, "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night..."
Meditation in the Christian sense isn't about emptying our minds completely of all thought, but focusing it on God and letting the Holy Spirit fill us with a sense of peace. "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." -Exodus 14:14

Heather and Kaitlyn also talk about what it means to rely on God's help instead of doing things in our own strength.

What does it mean to share our testimony? It's a big word that can seem intimidating to many. But it simply means sharing with others about how God has been a part of our lives. Christianity.com provides a three-step outline that may be helpful in the process.
1. Sharing what your life was like before knowing God
2. How you knew you needed God and how that was acknowledged
3. How your life is now with following Jesus
Acts 13:15 tells us, "If you have a message of encouragement for the people, please speak."
While Kaitlyn expresses that speaking in this way doesn't come naturally, she's encouraged by this verse to share her own testimony with others so they may be inspired to make God a part of their life.

Heather and Kaitlyn thank the Social Services department and volunteers that have packed over 800 backpacks filled with school supplies for children in our community!
Preparing for transition of any kind is important. As we look forward to the fall season, a beautiful verse to keep in mind is:
"Forget about what's happened; don't keep going over old history. Be alert, be present. I'm about to do something brand-new. It's bursting out! Don't you see it?" -Isaiah 43:18-19
From that verse, we can be reminded of 4 things:
1. Don't live in the past
2. Be present in the moment (focus on our breathing, checking in with how we're feeling)
3. God always goes ahead of us, preparing our way
4. We are to be looking and watching for what God is going to do and IS doing currently

Kaitlyn and Heather discuss what it means to "live a godly life." Ultimately, our goal as Christ followers is to aspire to live as Jesus lived. Some examples would be loving and serving others. A big word for this is: Sanctification. This simply means that we go through a process of growing in our faith journey.

Kaitlyn and Heather discuss how we can respond to insults and negativity from others. We may even receive backlash for our faith. A verse to keep in mind comes from John 15:18 where Jesus says: "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first."
How people treat us matters. We have the right to stand up for ourselves if we're being treated unfairly. God wants us to live free from the bondages of anxiety and hurt. Galatians 5:1 says, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery."

Kaitlyn and Heather's topic for this episode comes from last week's, "Check it Out" found in Peer Magazine. Together, they discuss what overthinking has looked like in their lives and provide tips on how to combat the negative spiral of caring too much of what others think of us.
Two quotes to go along with the topic include one from author and motivational speaker, Rachel Hollis: "Other people's opinion of you is none of your business." And the second is from Sylvia Plath that states: "My mother said the cure for thinking too much about yourself was helping somebody who was worse off than you."
A great way to get out of our own head is by serving others. We also have the opportunity to change the story we tell ourselves. Every day is a new opportunity to be who God has called us to be. We can choose to let go of the past by reminding ourselves of 2 Corinthians 5:17 "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation."
Today's verse to meditate on is Ephesians 2:19-22, "Whenever you feel unloved, unimportant, or insecure, remember to whom you belong to."

Kaitlyn shares about how her personal style is evolving and with that, a more modest outlook on swimwear. Heather and Kaitlyn also discuss the history of the bikini that was created in 1946 by Louis Reard.
Coming from a faith perspective, it's noted that Jesus himself was plain looking and didn't want to draw attention to himself. We can ask ourselves if what we're wearing is for the right reasons.

Heather and Major Tom discuss how anger can be an emotional response to anxiety. Often times we don't want to acknowledge what it really is that's causing us to feel a certain way. But it's a process to learn about what triggers our anxiety. The Bible tells us not to worry. God wants us to cast our cares on Him.
The antidote to worry is Jesus.
Kaitlyn and Heather talk about what mobilizing means within The Salvation Army. They discuss how having a sense of hope and joy found in Christ can lead others to God. And when that time comes when someone asks, "What's different about you?" You can say: It's because I've found Jesus.
