In this thought-provoking episode, we discuss how the recent passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari has not only stirred the political landscape but also intensified conversations around leadership, governance, and the true meaning of democracy in the country. Beyond Hashtags: How Nigerian Youth Can Truly Build the Nation

In this episode of I Am Change,  we discuss how Nigeria is a country powered by its youth,  with over 70% of the population under the age of 30. Yet, despite their numbers and potential, many young Nigerians find themselves excluded from key political and civic conversations. From the #EndSARS movement to record-breaking youth turnout during the 2023 elections, it’s clear that young people have the power to drive change, but how do we sustain that momentum beyond protests and hashtags?

Joining us is Oluwatomisin Adebukola Badewole, popularly known as The Golden Tomisin,  a journalist, grassroots advocate, and founder of the Nigeria Grassroots Government Summit and Awards (NIGGSA). She shares powerful insights on what it truly means for young Nigerians to engage in nation-building, even in the face of systemic challenges.

Together, we explore:

  • Why so many young Nigerians feel disconnected from governance

  • What real nation-building looks like beyond politics and policy

  • How young people can lead from where they are,  through media, education, entrepreneurship, and local impact

  • The role of storytelling in shifting mindsets and inspiring civic action

  • How to move from protest and burnout to long-term, sustainable change

Whether you’re a young Nigerian seeking your place in the nation’s development or someone passionate about grassroots transformation, this episode is a must-listen.

JAMB 2025: When the System Fails

In this episode of I Am Change, we discuss the chaos surrounding the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) in Nigeria. This national crisis left nearly 380,000 students stranded due to severe technical issues. From blank screens to sudden power cuts, thousands of candidates, especially in Lagos and the South-East, were left in academic limbo, their futures hanging in uncertainty.

Joining the conversation is award-winning education journalist Deborah Tolu-Kolawole, whose investigative reporting sheds light on the systemic breakdowns behind the exam failures and the ripple effects on students and their families. Together, we explore how inadequate infrastructure, poor planning, and lack of accountability have led to widespread distrust in Nigeria’s educational systems.

We also address the heartbreaking story of a 19-year-old student who died by suicide amidst the chaos, an event that has forced the nation to confront the unbearable pressure placed on young Nigerians chasing higher education dreams.

 In this episode, we ask:

  • What caused the mass technical failures during UTME 2025?

  • Is JAMB doing enough to fix the mess—and prevent it from happening again?

  • How are students coping mentally and emotionally in the aftermath?

  • What structural reforms are urgently needed in Nigeria’s exam systems?

  • And what hope can we offer to students who feel broken by a system meant to uplift them?

🎧 Tune in to hear a thoughtful, urgent, and necessary conversation on education, equity, and reform in Nigeria.

IACP SE03EP04 - Digital Rights for All Nigerians
Around the world, there are several civil society groups fighting to ensure that government take the digital rights of her citizens seriously. In Nigeria, we have Paradigm Initiative. For many of us, losing internet connectivity for a day or having our favourite social media platforms disrupted for a couple of hours would be annoying, but should we be a more concerned about the implications of such events, especially when they happen during elections or vote counting? Should we be worried that the government can spy and punish anyone they please because they are pro-opposition? Why should you care if you’re neither pro-opposition nor very vocal on social media? To help us answer these questions, I spoke with Gbenga Sesan, Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative. He is also a Non-Resident Fellow at the Digital Civil Society Lab at Stanford University. Prior to starting Paradigm Initiative, 'Gbenga led the Lagos Digital Village, a joint project of Junior Achievement of Nigeria, Microsoft and Lagos State Government. Gbenga was listed by CNN as one of the Top 10 African Tech Voices on Twitter and by Ventures Africa as one of 40 African Legends Under 40. He has been advising the World Health Organisation on Data Privacy during the ongoing pandemic and is also advising the World Economic Forum on its Operationalising Trust Project, to develop rights-respecting Data Policy for businesses. IACP SE03EP03 - The Power of Words with Alhanislam
There’s no denying that the words we speak in our minds, read, in books, say to others or write with our pens can have a profound effect on us and others around us. One art form borne out of the incredible power of words is poetry. When you take the words off a page and perform them in front of an audience, the additional element of the performer’s passionate rendition, facial expressions, and body language can produce an even more profound impact on audiences. Do you have important things to say and powerful messages to share? Are you an aspiring poet or wish your words could have more of an impact on others? In this episode, I have a chat with Maryam Bukar Hassan, also known as Alhanislam about what she does as a performance poet. She has performed at major festivals and events including the Ake Arts and Book Festival and the Kaduna Book and Arts Festival. She shot into the limelight after she released a video of her poem on domestic violence, titled: ‘VIOLENCE HAS NO RELIGION’. Alhanislam is also the founder of Deen at heart, an organization that focuses on the moral re-engineering of young people.
