Debbie Berg is a Canadian Clinical Counsellor, Trainer and Consultant. Besides working with clients and families of all ages and backgrounds she has spent most of her career in leadership roles in inner cities in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada. Along with a group of compassionate people she led a project to give a home to homeless (unhoused), medically compromised and substance misusing seniors. In Canada, those who do not struggle with addictions are able to access care homes as they age and decline medically, but for those who misuse substances there is no place that will accept them. SpadyPOD (George Spady Society Place of Dignity) continues to give dignity and a permanent home to unhoused, inner city seniors. Her hope is that more cities will adopt this idea.
Debbie’s favorite pastime is e-biking with her husband on various Islands in BC when they are not spending time with their 5 children, granddaughter, great-grandchildren and great nephews and nieces.

As Debbie says , homelessness is "not a human failure. It's a humanity failure"
In other words homelessness is not the fault of the homeless people. It is the fault of the systems that create homelessness.
