This narrative came through on the first day I wasn’t able to get out of bed due to my mental illness. It coveys the overwhelming feeling of being trapped in life's relentless demands and the struggle to catch one's breath.
This represents my personal journey through the * 'battle' with mental illness and the crucial realization that seeking help and space is a lifeline. Join us in exploring these profound emotions and remember that you are never alone in your *'struggle'.

*free bird reminder: the language we use is critical. If things are always talked about at as a battle or struggle… they will be. However it’s also important to acknowledge and name the experiences how you feel them as well as transition the mindset.
At this time it was a battle that I felt like I kept losing which propelled me into figuring out long-term growth. When I was able, I started transitioning the way I talked about this companion of pain.
Word transitions / updates to try:
Challenge, experience, journey, hurting, exhaustion, depression [anxiety/burnout/other] symptoms [wave, feelings, emotions, part, experience], learning/growth, discussion/conversation, emotional upheaval, parasympathetic nervous system response
Free bird reminder: transitioning, change and growth take varying levels of effort depending on the neuropathway depth. As always try to give yourself grace to prevent deeper negative self-exchanges :)

This exercise came through about a month into my short-term disability leave. I knew writing things down was not only important to get it 'out of our heads', but constructing the thoughts in a letter format adds a level of closure. It serves as both a farewell and thank you to a companion that had played a significant role in my life.
I was incredibly motivated to heal my mental illness as I just knew there was a life beyond vacillating between depression and burnout symptoms and chronic pain every moment of every day.
I reflect on the past journey to healing, recognizing the need for love and kindness towards the parts I’ve *'struggled' with.
Witness the transformative power of self-acceptance and the liberation that comes with saying goodbye to an old identity, making space for growth, freedom, and self-love.

I’ve drawn an abundance of healing, clarity and updated language from Yung Pueblo’s wisdom from their book “Clarity and Connection”.
This except felt natural to post first since the basis of building and using mental health tools are going to be vastly different person to person and for the individual themself trigger to trigger.
Dive into the dual nature of the human experience to recognize our shared humanity while appreciating the rich diversity of our inner worlds.

Free bird reminder: Not one person has all the answers, wisdom and knowledge at any given time. Healing is cumulative and robust. Explore what resonates, fact check + absorb multiple sources, leave the rest and rise.

This narrative came through about a month into my short-term disability leave. I was fully tapping into gratefulness at this time, especially due to being off work on paid leave. Yet I was also feeling an immense amount of guilt for being able to be in a safe and tight bubble as the world continued to be on fire.
It has been critical to create space to heal and be in the pursuit of serenity amidst the chaos and disparities of privilege. It’s essential to put our own oxygen masks on first for the healing we need to share with others. And we will take back and clean the oxygen in the world.
