Putting aside the fact a lorry nearly took the entire side of the Rolls-Royce out, the Goodwood ‘Chauffeur’ series got off to a flying start.
During our tour through Midhurst, Rogate and South Harting his Grace spoke to me about the time he was told to “p*ss off” by Graham Hill, the future of Goodwood and the birth of the Festival of Speed. We even found time to play a game of Word Association.

The reasoning behind Goodwood Carpool was to ease the congestions on the roads around the estate – the fact that I have so far stumbled across Tiff Needell and Dario Franchitti is purely coincidence. Obviously.
This latest episode, with the three-time Indy 500 winner, was always going to make for an interesting hour. Dario – or ‘Jock McBain’ if Sir Jackie Stewart had had his way – is a rare breed: an extremely successful racer who loves the history of the sport and who loves talking about it even more.
