Is Todd Snider Ok?
Is Todd Snider ok? BTW... Who the frig is Todd Snider? And why should you care? All these questions and MORE answered in the latest episode of The GXO, your trusted, insider source for everything music and beyond!Just one show into a 13 date tour to promote his latest album, legendary East Nashville based Americana storyteller Todd Snider is “allegedly” mugged and beaten up in South Salt Lake, Utah, just outside the venue he was to perform at.When police refused to take him to the hospital, Snider somehow made it on his own, only to be discharged without proper care, according to Snider. After being asked to leave, a visibly upset Snider returned to the hospital to air his grievances. Cops were called and Snider was arrested, spending the night in jail. Since his release from jail, Snider has not been seen or heard from. A hastily written statement from his record company has only added mystery to this already disturbing tale. Join us as we dive deeper into the events of that fateful Halloween 2025 night, Snider's BAD WEEKEND, his now cancelled tour and the murky waters of the man's psychic pain and inner demons.   WARNING! Springsteen Don't Swing
Join us this week for a full episode deep dish dive into the latest rock n roll movie to hit movie theatres this season: SPRINGSTEEN: Deliver Me From Nowhere Based on the 2023 book "Deliver Me From Nowhere: The Making Of Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska" by noted rock n roll author/historian, Del Fuegos guitarist and Ph.D. holder Warren Zane, the film has proven to be both powerful and divisive amongst casual fans and movie goers alike. Starring two of the finest actors of their generation, the two Jeremy's; Shameless star Jeremy Allen White as Springsteen, and noted method actor Jeremy Strong as Jon Landau, Springsteen's longtime manager, both actors ground this weighted cinematic portrayal of the birthing process behind one of the most misunderstood and talked about albums of the 1980s. Deconstructing Keaton
This week's episode of Rock N Roll Fashionistas is an open letter of love to Diane Keaton who passed over into the ether of the unknown this past week... Comedic genius, actor extraordinaire, Academy Award Winner (Best Actress 1977 Annie Hall), Academy Award Nominee (Best Actress 1981 Reds, Best Actress 1996 Marvin's Room, Best Actress 2003 Something's Gotta Give) Writer, Director, Producer, Photographer, Singer, Activist, Huffington Post contributor, Realtor, Renovator, Mother. Beauty... Avidly opposed to cosmetic surgery, Keaton was quoted in 2004 as saying, "I'm stuck in this idea that I need to be authentic, My face needs to look the way I feel." Portions of this episode let Keaton's work speak for itself, as heard from films Annie Hall 1977 Manhattan 1979 Interiors 1978 Also in this episode we pay homage to our favorite Bronx born, New Yorker, Kiss member, lead guitarist, vocalist and songwriter extraordinaire Ace Frehley who followed through Keaton's footsteps into heaven this past week... All of this AND MORE! in the latest episode of Rock N Roll Fashionistas where we find ourselves, just like old times, back in a New York groove and made for loving you! OPENING TRACK: Annie Ross's original recording of her 1952 vocalese composition Twisted based on an original composition of the same name written and recorded in 1949 by American bebop tenor saxophonist Wardell Gray. https://music.apple.com/ca/album/twisted-remastered/889725994?i=889726241 Woody Allen opened his 1997 film Deconstructing Harry with this exact same Annie Ross original recording of the song. Over the years, both as a member of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross and also as a solo artist, Annie Ross would go on to record countless versions of this song but none ever matched the urgency, depth and power of her original recording heard here as well as Allen's film. CLOSING TRACK: American bebop tenor saxophonist Wardell Gray and his original 1949 New Jazz Record Company recording of his composition Twisted https://music.apple.com/ca/album/twisted-11-11-49/305738553?i=305739465 accompanied by Al Haig piano, Tommy Potter bass and Roy Haynes drums, reinterpreted three years later in a vocalese variation by singer Annie Ross in 1952 and once again 22 years later by Joni Mitchell on her 1974 album Court And Spark.   BTW...   ...do you have a burning desire to send us an email? Happy Thanksgiving
To all of our listeners we would like to wish each and every one of you a healthy, happy, safe and joyful Thanksgiving, regardless of whether you celebrate the harvest feast of gratitude in October or November. We here at Rock N Roll Fashionistas have much to be grateful for... First and foremost we are GRATEFUL for YOU! Yes, YOU! Thank you for listening. Without you there would be no point in doing this at all. We would also like to thank Ray Davies, whose powerful music we have used in this show to help punctuate the season. As far as we can tell, Ray has not licensed either album we have taken our OPENING and CLOSING songs from for distribution. At present there is no way to stream or purchase either one of his albums Other People's Lives (2006) or Working Man's Café (2007).  We tried unsuccessfully to identify an official website for Ray in order to contact his organization directly to inquire as to how it is possible to purchase either one of these albums at this time. OPENING TRACK: Morphine Song taken from Ray Davies' 2007 album Working Man's Cafe, originally released on Sir Richard Branson's record label V2 Records CLOSING TRACK: Thanksgiving Day taken from Ray Davies' 2006 album Other People's Lives originally released on Sir Richard Branson's record label V2 Records At present, the Ray Davies albums that are currently available to stream and/or purchase were both originally released by Legacy Records (a division of Sony Music). At present their ownership is credited to Ray Davies (Entertainments) Limited   Do you have a burning desire to send us an email? Please do! info@rocknrollfashionistas.com   Want on our mailing list? For the1998 Spike Lee joint He Got Game, a gripping basketball themed African American tale staring Academy Award wining actor Denzel Washington, director Spike Lee spurns the obvious in choosing a soundtrack and film score entirely consisting of orchestral music from master American composer Aaron Copland. For the closing credits to the film, Academy Award winning director Lee enlists the talents of Chuck D and Flavor Flav of Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame hip hop group Public Enemy along with the unmistakable two note guitar riff of Stephen Stills' "For What It's Worth (Stop, Hey What's That Sound)" written as a protest of the Sunset Strip police takedown in November 1966 on the strip in Los Angeles and released a month later, December 5, 1966, by his band Buffalo Springfield. Yoko Ono: 21st Century Icon
Join us this week as we unravel the enigma that is Yoko Ono, mid 20th Century pioneer of the Avant Garde, darling of the early 60s New York underground, admired by the Guggenheims, Marcel Duchamp and associate to John Cage.   In this, part one of two, we explore Yoko Ono's earliest beginnings from her birth in 1933 to her wealthy international banker father and the family's long ties to ancient Samurai Warrior-scholars.    Having survived the fire bombing of Tokyo during World War Two, a direct attack on innocent civilians killing over 100,000 people and displacing another million rendering them instantly homeless, the Ono's scoured the countryside staving off starvation looking for food, begging, bartering and carrying all of their remaining earthly belongings in a wheelbarrow.    All of this AND MORE!   In the latest episode of Rock N Roll Fashionistas, contextualizing rock n roll since Woodstock 2024.   OPENING TRACK: "Sisters, O Sisters", https://music.apple.com/ca/album/sisters-o-sisters/1440858026?i=1440858350 the Yoko Ono penned original from the 1972 John & Yoko album Some Time In New York City, their fourth collaborative studio album and second live album. David Bowie's Reclamation
In the summer of 1971, a long haired 24 year old hippie folk singer songwriter by the name David Bowie played the very first Glastonbury Music Festival at Worthy Farm in Pilton, Somerset, England. On the 30th anniversary of the storied annual summer music festival Bowie returned, and in doing so, reclaimed a legacy long tarnished by two decades of crass commercialism, hollow success and artistic bankruptcy. Join us as we revisit the final days of an aging, reclusive David Bowie, anxious to shift the narrative from his elderly appearance onto his 26th and final studio album, Blackstar, released on the occasion of his 69th birthday, just two days prior to his death. Explore the reclamation of David Bowie's artistic integrity through his triumphant performance at Glastonbury 2000 as well as the early history of his 70's Glam Rock co-conspirator Marc Bolan, the iconography of Rock N Roll and so much more! The following questions answered: What did Ringo Starr say when asked if he was a Mod or a Rocker? What happy accident resulted in the creation of one of the most pivotal Beatles' album covers? Who was on the very first cover of Rolling Stone magazine, first published in the shadow of the Summer of Love, November 9, 1967? At the very peak of their productivity, which act wrote and recorded four studio albums of original material, circumvented the globe performing two world tours and starred in two feature films all in the span of just 24 months?  What is the sound of a Donovan photograph? How 60's British folk music duo Tyrannosaurus Rex transformed into 70s Glam superstars T.Rex and the longest album title in the history of rock n roll... Oasis or Blur? You tell us! All of this AND MORE in the latest episode of Rock N Roll Fashionistas, contextualizing rock n roll since Woodstock 2024. OPENING TRACK: On March 2, 1973 T.Rex released the Marc Bolan penned stand alone singe "20th Century Boy" which peaked at number 3 on the UK singles chart. 30 years later Brit Pop superstars Placebo released their cover of the song on their aptly title Covers album from 2003 https://music.apple.com/ca/album/20th-century-boy/961069038?i=961069094 CLOSING TRACK: Opening title track from Bowie's final album Blackstar, released January 8, 2016 on his final living birthday https://music.apple.com/ca/album/1676286487?i=1676286495 Producer's Note: This episode was originally recorded in chronological order immediately following the release of our "Rock N Roll Movies" episode which first aired Sunday, April 20, 2025.
