Beatles' George Martin Studio DESTROYED By Volcano!
NEWS FLASH!!! Beatles' George Martin Recording Studio DESTROYED By Volcano! LATE WEEK BONUS EPISODE DROP Join us once again in welcoming a true master at work MistyK The DJ in the latest installment of Rock Talk With MistyK The DJ Did you know that following the break up of The Beatles, their producer and 5th Beatle Sir George Martin, looking for work and new challenges on the horizon, opened up his first of three Air Studios, one of which is still operating to this very day? What you may not have known is that Martin's most recent incarnation of his state of the art Air Studios chain of recording studios was built under an, up until then, long dormant volcano in the next best thing you can imagine to a deserted tropical paradise, the tiny island of Montserrat. Just 10 miles long and 7 miles wide,  Montserrat has roughly 25 miles of coastline and within that tiny patch of heaven on earth emerged some of the most artistically and commercially successful albums of the 1980's... Until... The frickin' VOLCANO ERPUTED!!! And then... THE HURRICANE!!  Join us as we pick MistyK The DJs brain for all the Who, What, Where, Why and Whens of the tragedy that followed in the wake of not one but... TWO NATURAL DISASTERS!! to befall the people of Montserrat and the not so little idyllic recording studio that could! All this AND MORE! ...in this special BONUS mid week Episode drop of Rock N Roll Fashionistas, contextualizing rock n roll since Woodstock 2024   OPENING TRACK: Full length album version of Money For Nothing https://music.apple.com/ca/album/money-for-nothing-remastered-1996/1565391787?i=1565391810 taken from Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms record recorded at George Martin's Air Studios on the tiny Caribbean island of Montserrat. Following its release the album went on to sell over 30 million copies globally and was the very first CD ever to sell over a million copies.   CLOSING TRACK: Where Have All The Good Times Gone https://music.apple.com/ca/album/where-have-all-the-good-times-gone/1440758220?i=1440759167taken from Sir Elton John's album Jump Up, the first of three albums Sir Elton recorded at Sir George Martin's Air Studios on the tiny Caribbean island of Montserrat. The 1982 album is also noteworthy for containing the heart breaking bittersweet balled of John Lennon and his murder in 1980 Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny)   Click link below to listen to MistyK The DJ's UPCOMING audio music doc on George Martin's Air Studios on the island Montserrat (release date tbd - just keep checking till it drops!) www.mixcloud.com/Redgirl77/   For further groovy cool info on this ridiculously interesting story be sure to listen to the always WONDERFULLY INFORMATIVE AND FUN The Imbalanced History Of Rock And Roll podcast and their episode: ISLAND MUSIC: The History Of AIR Studios Montserrat with Brian Sallerson https://open.spotify.com/episode/3PzUTfUqkEQe0eG5NP8WS3?si=RaZl-xqURJm_nDQZLOH6DQ   btw   ...do you have a burning desire to send us an email?
