Absolved of her sin, and cured of leprosy, Miriam, the sister of Moses, was reunited with the children of Israel. The nation continued its journey, and “pitched [their tents] in the wilderness of Paran” (12:16). The events recorded in today’s Scripture reading are among the most dynamic in Israel’s forty years of wanderings in the wilderness.

Our chronological Scripture reading schedule (www.HeartofAShepherd.com) brings us to the Book of Leviticus, the third book of the five books of the Old Testament known as the Pentateuch.
Leviticus is as its name implies, a book that directed the Levites in their priestly duties. Worship, offering of sacrifices, festivals, and matters of the Law are all addressed in Leviticus.

Continuing our study of the Book of Leviticus, this is my second devotional commentary from that book, as we continue to study the various sacrifices the LORD required of Israel. You will notice the standard, “without blemish,” was God’s requirement of all sacrifices. After all, anything less than our best is unacceptable to God.

We no longer offer sacrifices for sins, because Jesus Christ is not only our high priest (Hebrews 9:11), but He is also our “once and for all,” substitutionary sacrifice (Hebrews 9:12, 14). While His death on the cross, and shedding of blood, fulfilled the demands of the law for a perfect, sinless sacrifice, yet we are responsible to confess our sins one to another and to a Holy God.

Two sacrificial offerings are discussed in today’s Scripture (Leviticus 5-6). The Trespass offering is discussed in three various presentations.
Leviticus 5 also considers the Reparations offer, for when restitution of another’s loss is required by the LORD.

While the offering of sacrifices is no longer required, Jesus Christ being our substitutionary sacrifice and high priest (Hebrews 7:25-28); God has nevertheless called, and ordained men who are set apart to spiritually shepherd His people. The work of the pastor as the shepherd of the church is described in 1 Peter 5:2-4.
1 Peter 5:2-4 - Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; 3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being ensamples to the flock. 4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.

Today’s video devotional commentary continues our chronological study of the Scriptures. The subject of today’s devotional is the “Strange Fire” that was offered by two sons of Aaron, the high priest. The consequence of that sin was not only their deaths, but the great sorrow that it brought upon their father, and Israel.

Today’s video devotional commentary considers the difference, the distinction between animals God deemed clean, and for consumption, and those the LORD declared unclean, and forbid His people to eat.
Interestingly, you and I follow many of the dietary restrictions found in today’s Scripture. I will not get into a debate about the application of these Scriptures to your diet, but I suggest they are principles you and I should strongly consider as applicable to our lives.
What was the LORD teaching Israel: Be Holy!

Today’s video covers the issue of ceremonial uncleanness in both men, and women in Israel. Any who were deemed unclean, were not to approach the Tabernacle, nor offer sacrifices until they came with an offer of sacrifice, and were pronounced clean by the priest.
The Day of Atonement is also discussed, and it was the one day that the high priest would offer a sacrifice for his sins, and a second sacrifice for the sins of the nation. We will also consider the “scapegoat,” and the reality that Jesus Christ, by His death, burial, and resurrection, is become the substitutionary sacrifice for our sins, and our high priest.

Today’s video devotional commentary continues our study in Leviticus moves on from the subject of clean and unclean meats (Leviticus 17), to the morality and sanctity of the institution of marriage (Leviticus 18).
Discussed briefly will be the sexual sins God has declared are an abomination.
