Buckingham Nicks Elusive '73 Album Arrives Sept 19th

Fleetwood Mac went through many lineups, but only one became legendary. When Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham joined in 1974, they transformed the band from a modest British blues outfit into a pop-rock powerhouse infused with California folk. The result was a run of shimmering, drama-laden hits like Dreams, Don’t Stop, and Gypsy that defined the next decade and a half.

But before Fleetwood Mac — long before their creative partnership unraveled — Buckingham and Nicks recorded an album together. For decades, it was notoriously difficult to hear. That changes on September 19th, when Buckingham Nicks will finally be reissued after more than 40 years, newly remastered on CD, vinyl, and digital.

Deep Dive: 36 Years of Stevie Nicks The Other Side Of The Mirror

Thirty six years ago, on May 11, 1989, Stevie Nicks released her fourth solo album, The Other Side of the Mirror, in North America. The UK and Australian releases followed later that month. While it may not hold the iconic status of Bella Donna or The Wild Heart, The Other Side of the Mirror remains one of Nicks’ most intriguing and underappreciated works.

Produced by Rupert Hine, the album arrived on the heels of Fleetwood Mac’s Tango in the Night, and as the first band member to go solo post-Tango, expectations for Nicks were high. She delivered: the album peaked at number 10 in the U.S., number 11 in Canada and debuted at number 3 in the UK, marking her highest solo chart entry there to date. The album also achieved top 10 status in Australia and Sweden and landed in the top 20 in other european markets.

The lead single, “Rooms on Fire,” was a world wide hit reaching the top 20 in multiple countries including number 16 in the US, number 9 in Canada and became Nicks’ first top 40 solo hit in the UK reaching number 16. Four singles were released from the album to varying degrees of success. “Long Way to Go” reached number 60 and “Whole Lotta Trouble” reached number 62 in the UK and number 22 in Ireland. “Long Way To Go” reached number 11 on the US Album Rock Tracks chart and number 65 in Australia. "Two Kinds of Love" and the Grammy nominated "Whole Lotta Trouble" both surprisingly failed to chart in the US.

Artistically, The Other Side of the Mirror still stands tall. While often overshadowed by her earlier solo triumphs, the album holds a special place in her discography — especially among devoted fans who recognize its depth and atmosphere.

There’s plenty of magic to discover on The Other Side of the Mirror.

Stevie Nicks "The Lighthouse" #64 Best Songs of 2024

Deep Dive into Stevie Nicks “The Lighthouse”

Rolling Stone magazine recently ranked Stevie Nicks' song "The Lighthouse" number 64 on its list of the 100 best songs of 2024. Nicks wrote the powerful feminist song in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Sheryl Crow co-produced and played guitar on the track.

The CD and 7” Vinyl Single are available at stevienicksofficial.com

From Rolling Stone:

Stevie Nicks wrote this fierce women’s rights anthem directly following the demise of Roe v. Wade, and if that wasn’t already badass enough, she enlisted Sheryl Crow to co-produce and play guitar. Particularly after the events of this fall, the track resonates now more than ever. Nicks’ signature growl arrives on the scene like a lightning storm, one that strikes once, maybe twice. “It sounds like Marvin Gaye walking down a seedy alley and singing about life, and he runs into Dave Grohl and the Foo Fighters when he turns the corner,” she told us. “That’s how I hear it.” We couldn’t agree more. —Angie Martoccio

As Long As You Follow

As Long As You Follow” is a song written by Christine McVie and Eddy Quintela and recorded by McVie with Fleetwood Mac as one of two original tracks on their 1988 Greatest Hits compilation released in November, 1988. The other new track on the album was a Stevie Nicks track,, “No Questions Asked”. These two new recordings marked the first studio recordings to feature new guitarists Billy Burnette and Rick Vito.

As Long As You Follow was released as a single and although not a major success in worldwide terms it did reach number 19 in both Canada and Ireland. In the UK, the single reached number 66 on the UK Singles Chart and missed the top 40 in the United States, peaking at number 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart; however, the song did spend one week at number one on the Billboard adult contemporary chart in January 1989.

The song reappeared on the double CD edition of The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac released in 2002, and the triple CD anthology 50 Years - Don't Stop released in 2018.

The single's b-side was a live recording of the Peter Green classic Oh Well with Billy Burnette on lead vocals. This had been previously featured on the Tango in the Night concert video. The CD single also included the track Gold Dust Woman from the Rumours album.

As Long As You Follow was Fleetwood Mac’s 12th Hot 100 hit during the eighties.
