We discuss how his faith and sexuality are intertwined, how initially he felt excluded from Christianity until finding an affirming church & discovering the true love of Jesus, how he finds it important to dialogue and feels called by Jesus to love all people, no matter what, and the scriptures he uses to combat an alternate Christian viewpoint.

This episode is the second in a very special series of the FanGirlHour. In preparation for the release of our short film, I Am Fine, in the fall, which highlights the struggle with lgtbqai in mainstream conservative Christianity, I will be interviewing several close, dear friends who will share their understanding of, relationship to Jesus, Christianity, religion or spirituality, their faith journeys, the struggles they have in recognizing their worth in God's eyes as a queer person, how they explain to others those “gotcha” verses in the Bible, all with the intent to “Reclaim & Redeem Jesus & Christianity” from a belief system that has co-opted for personal, subversive gain. Over the next several weeks, we will “fangirl for Jesus” in a series called “I am queer & I love Jesus.”

My guest is my new friend, Nicholas Heckford, who shares his journey of finding out his passion for life, the wine, the wine industry, and all things wine. We chat about where he came from, how it influenced him, his background, education, and where he hopes for his future. Most importantly, Nicholas's true desire is the emphasis of community within the context of this industry.
Nicholas Heckford is a wine connoisseur and currently resides in Grants Pass Oregon. He is a Sonoma County native and grew up in the Russian River appellation surrounded by vineyards. His love of agriculture is rooted in his childhood, however it wasn't until his early twenties. He became involved and fell in love with the wine industry. His educational background consists of several viticulture classes with an emphasis on sustainability. His most recent endeavor was a paid internship with Wilbur-Ellis, an agribusiness specializing in agricultural products. Nicholas’s commitment to superior knowledge and a deep understanding of wine has inspired him to pursue the sommelier and wine journalism route. He will be attending Umpqua Community College in Roseburg Oregon, majoring in viticulture and marketing. He hopes to start his sommelier classes and journalism classes soon after.
It's Season 4, Episode 1 of the FanGirlHour! And, in this episode, could be called the FanGirlHour...& a little bit more, I interview my good friend, Ray Nomoto Robison who shares his life long love & journey with film-making. Ray shares how he fell into film-making and the reasons why, what influenced him including family, upbringing, favorite films, and just why he loves the art & creation of filmmaking that keeps bringing him back again and again!
Ray Nomoto Robison
Filmmaker
A Fine Arts major in college Robison decided half way through his freshman year that film should be his medium. After receiving his film degree he opted not to move to LA or any other metropolitan area preferring a more rural lifestyle. In Montana and Oregon Robison made a 20 year career of producing and directing local television commercials then began teaching at Southern Oregon University where his students reignited his passion for filmmaking. He began production on his first feature film in 2001. The ultra-low budget feature was sold to a small east coast US distributor allowing Robison to recoup some of his investment. He then began writing his second feature film and in 2007 he saw his first film festival screening (Dances with Films) with his film noir piece Sixes and the One Eyed King. The experience increased the momentum in his passion for filmmaking and he began work on the short film Model Rules which would be the first short film he had made since college. Numerous features and shorts followed and today Robison as a film director has over 100 film festival selections under his belt and continues independent filmmaking primarily in Oregon where he makes his home. He is currently in pre-production on a horror film And Evil Makes 8 which will be the first feature he will have directed in over 10 years.

In this episode, I chat with my friend, Jason Boese, about his lifelong love of all things Monty Python. We discuss how he came to love the show, how it has impacted his life personally & professionally, his favorite of the pythons and why, favorite of the films, and songs, & more.
Jason Boese
In the past few years, Jason has garnered worthwhile film and life experience to move my craft forward. Life hasn't always been kind to him, but he has managed to persevere and come out relatively fine. Being an eccentric amateur philosopher has opened his eyes to ways of the world, and has enhanced his writing ability and content, as well as his ability to effectively direct and shoot a film, and edit the footage into a finished product. He takes inspiration from Monty Python for his comedy stylings, and Alfred Hitchcock for his way of directing his performers. Showing a lot by doing a little and being highly focused has helped center his stories.
