Episode 46 - we had a bad walk
This week, Sonny and I had a "bad walk". You might reframe it as a walk with a teenaged dog. Little, if anything went to plan. He paid me almost no attention. How did we get there? What happened? How did we handle it? What do we do next? All these questions are considered and answered in this episode. Episode 45 - should my dog play fetch?
Should I play fetch with my dog? Seems simple, right? Not so much. As with many things, there is a lot of nuance to it. Over the last weekend, there was an opinion piece, circulated widely, suggesting we shouldn't. As always, someone else had a different opinion. The two articles are held in the link below with all the relevant contact details of the people who wrote the original pieces.https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JJqFkGc6if0oYkyY8buE4OU5N9pn4WqX1Mn6QvE5LTk/edit?usp=sharingjoin our monthly membership community of likeminded dog peoplehttps://glasgowdogtraineronline.thinkific.com/courses/dog-training-and-behaviour-modificationUse code "podcast50" for 50% off your first month.

Episode 44 - with Elle Williams
This week we have guest Elle William.Elle is a certified professional dog trainer knowledge accessed, fear free certified trainer, and the founder of Give a Sit Dog training in Southern California USA. Although a relatively new trainer, she's taken great pride in the education and experience she crammed into the past five years of dog and human training. Her training methods are strictly reward based, with a strong emphasis on welfare, communication and the feeling of safety. She equally considers the human clients need to be heard, understood and rewarded for the efforts they put in. Reactivity is her passion, admittedly an obsession. And with the rise of social media becoming a go to source for advice on how to train a reactive dog, Elle has joined in with many other reinforcement based educators with her comedic style approach to exposing the pit falls of inhumane methods and training tools, while advocating for effective science based dog training.Link to the Canine Connections Challenge. Everything Dog Training!
Episode 43 - with Leeron Liftik
My guest this week is Leeron Liftik, a trainer and behaviour consultant in California. Leeron has extensive experience with shelter dogs and we had a really cool conversation. "Dogs are dogs; let them be that. The area I am called on most frequently to support is helping medium and high-drive personality working breeds to integrate into companion-level homes. My approach is creating change at an emotional level to impact behaviours informed by the resilience conditioning framework. By focusing on holistically meeting the animal's needs from an integrative platform, any maladaptive coping mechanisms inherently become obsolete. I maintain specialty in treating fear-based behaviours, aggression, separation related behaviours and gestational development for puppies. I work with dogs from all sorts of background but far and away have the most experience with shelter and rescue animals and they represent my preferred population."You can reach him via his Facebook page.https://www.facebook.com/ProfessionalDogNerd

Episode 39 - with guest Alice Davies
This week's guest is Alice Davies.Alice runs A.D. Dog Training, a force free dog walking and training service. Having worked with numerous dogs in a variety of settings her true passion (or some say obsession!) for dog training was ignited and grew alongside her first dog a an adult, Maisie. Maisie has been Alice's companion for over 14yrs and has helped teach her a tremendous amount but most importantly how to slow down and be more mindful. In recent years Alice and her family have also welcomed a Romanian rescue, Evie, into the home who continues to challenge and improve her skills on a daily basis!Taking up dog walking as a part time job during studies Alice soon came to the realisation that a full time career working with dogs was not only possible but would also be a dream come true! Walking dogs and spending so much time with them allowed invaluable insight into their behaviour and body language. Reading and researching as much as possible and carrying out many courses during this time Alice endeavoured to learn as much as she could about ethical, force-free training to ensure she was up to date with current knowledge and scientific research. Currently a student with PACT (Professional Association of Canine Trainers) Alice is always eager to learn more and expand on her expertise.Alice aims to help dogs, and their humans, live happy, harmonious lives. She believes dogs should be allowed to be dogs, but within safe boundaries, ensuring they can live and thrive in our human-filled world.Website: https://addogtraining.co.uk/Facebook & Instagram https://www.facebook.com/addogtraininghttps://www.instagram.com/addogtraining/profilecard/?igsh=Ynkxd2J6OHN2dWhs

My journey into the world of positive dog training began with the adoption of my rescue dog George who faced behavioural challenges and was deemed unsuitable for rehoming. Helping and understanding George, ignited a passion in me that led me to leave my military career to pursue dog training full-time.Since then, I have devoted myself to understanding the science behind modern, positive training techniques, earning qualifications that reflect my commitment to ethical practices. I have spent the last few years researching, practicing and training dogs and their guardians, before opening Pawsitive Life in June - our positive only dog daycare and training hub designed to serve the local community. At Pawsitive Life, myself and the team focus on creating a nurturing, enriching environment where every dog is cared for in the most positive and ethical way possible. With an ethos rooted in compassion for dogs and force free training backed by science, I believe that training should be a joyful experience for both dogs and their guardians and truly develop their bond and relationship, without fear.I am dedicated to making Pawsitive Life daycare and training hub a transparent, force free, positive only dog hub within community, focusing on educating owners and empowering and developing his team in science backed positive training."
