Why do people join a sectarian church community? Or MAGA? Or a mindset group like conspiracy theory followers? It's to gain identity from inclusion in that group. Too often, that group turns inward to become an "us" and soon starts looking to demonize "them" - those who are not us. Evangelicals LOVE the concept of "Go and Sin no more." The idea that Jesus was going around telling everyone what a sinful person they were gives evangelicals permission to condemn all of those around them. But that is nothing of the sort happening in this story from John chapter 4 of the Christian New Testament and Unconventional Pastor Paul Explains Why in this Snarky Bible Story Segment on the Evangelicalish Channel.

It shocks western Christians sometimes to realize Jesus isn't American and didn't speak English. Neil Douglas-Klotz, PHD has written about Jesus through the language or Aramaic, which was Jesus' actual native tongue. The book is an approach to Jesus’s recorded words and teachings to answer many questions clearly and consistently, even if unexpectedly, no matter which Gospel one has in their hands. Paul and Ashley discuss with Dr. Klotz why Aramaic’s multiple meanings can provide revelation and even transformation through the way of the prophet of Nazareth. It shows how Jesus’s deepest teachings address contemporary challenges, such as our relationships with nature and each other, as well as the purpose of life itself.
