Dr. G at the Heart of Healthcare
S3 FINALE #WHPCDay25

Show notes-

Worldwide Hospice and Palliative Care Alliance (WHPCA) observes World Hospice and Palliative Care Day on October 11, 2025

The theme for #WHPCDay25 is “Achieving the Promise: Universal Access to Palliative Care. This theme builds on last year’s campaign where we marked 10 years since the World Health Assembly (WHO’s Governing Body)”

Mourning Dove Medical Presents Dr. G at the Heart of Healthcare

Guest Dalyce Kelley

- Marketing Specialist

- Four time family caregiver

Mission-Educate & Empower in three parts, helping listeners ‘SEE’ what’s needed to navigate the healthcare system.

1. Story (theme) Dalyce experienced three deaths in her family this year. We dedicated Season 3 to her grandmother “Mama Dee” one of the nineteen victims killed in the January 2025 Eaton Fire (see Season 3 Premiere). The second was her 44 year old sister, Ebony Williams, which hit especially hard after losing her grandmother tragically. She was only on hospice care for 2 weeks. Brother then died after being a paraplegic on long term care.

2. Educate -Teaching points

- When you or your loved one is facing a serious illness diagnosis, it may feel like there’s a fight against the clock. To optimize quality of life and maximize decision making options, advanced care planning and early palliative care are important tools. Patients and families need time to research the best hospice agency in their own neighborhoods, when no further curative treatment is available.

- Delays due to insurance authorizations, complications from disease progression and complications of treatment can make the journey even more difficult. Ask for a palliative care consult.

1. Story (theme) Heart Breaking News 💔Gene Hackman & family caregiver wife https://www.aarp.org/caregiving/health/info-2023/when-family-caregiver-cannot-work.html

2. Educate -Teaching points

- What is is a Healthcare RoadMap? Components DIAGNOSES & Medications(Functional, Nutrition, Cognitive Statuses)

- Who needs a Healthcare RoadMap? People in the LATE STAGES OF LIFE must understand and share the destination of your health conditions. More specifically, know the diagnosis driving you to your final destination so that you may exercise your right to live, age, and die in BLISS.

- Share Healthcare RoadMap with Adult children and/or family caregivers who may not have insight about your health since you have lived independently longer than raising children.

- Platinum Rule: POA & surrogates should treat others the way THEY want to be treated. (As specified in THEIR advance directive)

To Age & Die in Bliss:

- 🛑STOP crashing into hospice care. (Learn the Real Deal About Hospice https://a.co/d/9VyHKsN Watch https://youtu.be/n-8hq5KF1oY?si=kSB96Cz4PBlZ_vIu)

- 🩺🗺️ Get a Healthcare RoadMap (reverse engineered CTI-certification of terminal illness)

- Advance Directives must be SPECIFIC (instead of awaiting capacity declarations and/or CRISIS to invoke end-of-life wishes)

- Who will speak for you❓

- Where will you live❓

- Who will take care of you❓

- How will your care be funded❓

- 💵Who will control your money?

- 💍Simplify home and belongings such as heirlooms.

- 🚘Plan when you will retire from driving instead of a physician having to report you to DMV for revocation. It’s devastating.

- 🏡Plan where you will live and who you will live with? children ? (Age limit to live alone?? 80-90)
