A Forrest From Coffee Pulp / Double Canopy 12 with Rebecca Cole and Rakan Zahawi

Dr. Rebecca J. Cole and Dr. Rakan “Zak” Zahawi are renowned Restoration Ecologists who implemented an experiment similar to the famous Orange Peel Forrest in Costa Rica in the 1990’s, this time using Coffee Pulp ag waste. The results are astounding, and further evidence that this strategy works with multiple inputs, at low cost, and at scale. Revealing Harmony with Eco Maps / Ben Missimer DC 8

Ben utilizes drone photography, satellite data, and LiDAR technology to create stunning topographic maps. These maps not only showcase the landscape's beauty but also provide vital insights into its hydrology, making them essential for permaculture designers. By meticulously analyzing the terrain's features, such as contour and slope, Ben's maps serve as invaluable tools for understanding water movement. This knowledge guides his permaculture strategies, ensuring a harmonious integration of human design and natural systems that prioritize water conservation and sustainability.

John Rasic is probably among just a handful of people who have dug so many deep pits, in so many places around the world. His soil studies and insights are not only valuable to the many agricultural projects he has consulted on globally, but also to a layman like me who seeks deeper understanding. I highly recommend John's Youtube channel which is very informative, eye-opening, and entertaining.

DC 1 Orange Peel Compost Can Make Soil Too with Tim Treuer and Jon Choi

Back in 2017, Tim and Jon wrote a paper about a unique and audacious experiment in Costa Rica. Truckloads of Orange peels were dumped onto degraded pasture in the late 1990's, and left to decompose. The result is renewed forest with increased biodiversity, which begs the question: where else in the world can agricultural waste streams help restore degraded soil?
