Recent events have cast AI into the spotlight, leading to negative publicity, backlash and financial losses for their creators. I believe it can stand as a counterbalance to AI craziness. A primary concern is that training AI on large language models means that it is trained on written text. In other words, I worry about the garbage in versus garbage out dilemma or the AI is being born into an environment that like most texts built around persuading, manipulating and selling rather than honest truth seeking. My concern is that we are teaching AI how to be a propagandist not a philosopher, a biased lawyer, not an impartial judge or a dogmatic politician, not a scientist. Nations and individuals have different styles or methods for confronting the unknown resolving conflict and setting policy. The image of Lady Justice can portray one method of confronting chaos or the unknown. In particular, an image of a woman wearing a blindfold to minimize her bias and using scales to balance both pros and cons represents the epitome of rational thinking. She uses a tool to measure objective reality to make her decision for her. This encapsulates the only valid approach to the unknown. However, this is not solely a western idea. It traces its roots back to ancient Egypt where Maat, the goddess of wisdom also used scales for objective measurements emphasizing the need for impartiality over gut feelings or groupthink. Similarly, the eastern concept of yin and yang advocates for a balance between each side like a scale rather than the defeat of one side by the other. Yet, a robust solution exists: democracy paired with the collective pursuit of truth. We propose an institution using collective intelligence (CI), akin to Wikipedia's method to counter spam and trolls, to dissect and analyze arguments.

Democracy's Mighty Arsenal

1. Pro/Con Analysis: For example, platforms like ProCon.org have used this approach to clarify contentious issues by presenting evidence on both sides. Similarly, our institution will apply rigorous pro/con analysis to conspiracy theories, meticulously weighing the supporting and opposing evidence.

2. Evidence Linking: Sites like Snopes and FactCheck.org link claims to evidence, offering transparent evaluations. Our institution will link the strength of each belief directly to the robustness of the evidence, ensuring transparent and honest assessments.

3. Grouping Similar Beliefs: Wikipedia effectively groups related content to provide comprehensive understanding. Similarly, we will link related beliefs, grouping similar expressions, and scoring their equivalency to enhance collective understanding.

Creating and Funding the Institution

The proposed institution will be a non-profit organization with a diverse board of scholars, technologists, and public figures. Funding could come from a combination of government grants, private donations, and partnerships with academic institutions. Its structure would promote collaboration between researchers, the public, and policymakers to ensure a multidisciplinary approach.

We don't need to win our battles with our enemies. We need to win our battle with ourselves and against our own delusions.

Persuasion is like thermonuclear war. Once you've started it, you've already lost. Your goal should be to avoid persuasion from others and from yourself. We need to build institutions that look at the pros and cons of each issue and make temporary decisions based on the available evidence, but change our mind when the evidence changes.

Teaching philosophy isn't stopping extremism. Nazi Germany had philosophers at all of their universities. We need institutions that use better decision making algorithms. How to know if politicians are putting their party over their country...

We need political parties that promote processes that tend to be successful instead of policy they are convinced will be successful. The purpose of the party should be to find truth not to use propaganda to spread so-called truth.

Democracy is government by the people. Representation is where the people choose elected representatives to represent them. A Republican party should be interested in representing the interest and needs of the citizens. We need a new political party that joins the process of Wikipedia with all the arguments and data from both Republican and Democrat websites.

He waited too long and if they would have been missiles he would have failed his assignment. but our assignment shouldn't be to revenge the attack that doesn't really happen. You shouldn't have an intelligent big government party and small government party. We need a political party that looks at the cost benefits and risk of each policy independent of its fitting into a larger narrative of big versus small government.
