BRAVO Leadership Forums
Andrés Gluski of The AES Corporation & Shannon Kellogg of Amazon Web Services

“We're trying to be innovative and creative across the company as we try to achieve these goals that will take us to carbon neutrality,” says Shannon Kellogg of Amazon Web Services in a BRAVO Leadership Conversation. In conversation with Andrés Gluski of The AES Corporation, he discusses the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence (AI) in the Americas. The dialogue addresses the intersection of AI and energy, exploring how the burgeoning technology can help meet the growing demand for clean energy in data centers, optimize operations, and enable the transition to sustainable energy solutions. “The growth of AI—and the data centers it needs—is making the system grow at rates that it hasn’t grown since the sixties [in the United States],” explains Gluski. This conversation between AS/COA's chairman and an AS/COA board member was recorded at Americas Society's 680 Park headquarters in New York City.

BRAVO Leadership Forums
João Vitor Menin, Global CEO of Inter&Co

"We decided that to compete, we had to become a retail bank. And to become a retail bank in Brazil, in a competitive market, we had to come up with something different," said João Vitor Menin of Inter&Co in a BRAVO Leadership Conversation. In conversation with Morgan Stanley's James Allen, Menin shared a story of innovation, explaining how what was a small bank at the time launched the first-ever free digital bank account in Brazil. "Sometimes, when you don't have a lot to lose, it's easier for you to try to disrupt things," Menin explained.

Menin and Allen discussed how Inter&Co got to its current offerings on its super app, as well as the significance of the bank's growth and its expansion into the U.S. market after a 2022 Nasdaq listing.

BRAVO Leadership Forums
Ignacio Yarur, Board Director of Bci

In the first BRAVO Leadership Conversation of 2024, Ignacio Yarur, board director at Banco de Credito e Inversiones (Bci), explored Bci’s commitment to digital innovation, international expansion in the Americas, and financial inclusion in Chile. In an event that marked the bank's twenty-fifth anniversary of its U.S. expansion and the strategic acquisition of City National Bank, Yarur was interviewed by BCG's Jorge Becerra on March 21 in Miami. He shed light on Bci's U.S. expansion as the first Chilean financial institution to own a bank in the United States. Yarur also talked about Bci’s societal impact in expanding online financial services through Chile’s first digital banking platform, MACH. "[MACH] is a free checking account for everyone…it completely opened the gate for anyone in Chile to use e-commerce.”

Talking on the recent digitalization in the banking industry, Yarur explained the transition went beyond an IT issue, and required cultural changes. “Regardless of the recent IT revolution, our values have always lied in change. These are the same as when we started in 1997. We [Yarur family] are strongly convinced that if we work hard and remain true to those values, our reward will come in the end." As a fourth-generation leader, Yarur's appointment to the board of directors is marked by nearly two decades of leading key business units, including his most recent role as Bci's chief of innovation and digital bank.

“It is very important for us to remain as close to the client as possible,...which requires listening to them, but also following our clients wherever they are doing a deal,” he said.
