Episode 42: At The Table with Bri Stensrud: Compassion – Refugees
https://youtu.be/Cm2cSaFatK0

“Compassion should not be controversial.” - Bri Stensrud

Today, Bri Stensrud joins me At The Table to discuss the value of all human life and the task for churches and believers to welcome immigrants and refugees with love and grace. She takes us to the border and shares some of the accounts of the tremendous loss, fear, and struggles many refugees face as well as the unique opportunity to come alongside and guide them toward hope and compassion. This is a conversation often centered around a Parisian point, and today's episode will move you toward the heart of God and an act of compassion.

Bri Stensrud is a human dignity advocate and the Director of Women of Welcome. Her passion is to equip the Church to engage more consistently and tangibly in holistic human dignity issues. Throughout her work in the pro-life movement, Bri continually faced questions from those concerned about immigrants and refugees. Understanding that many concerns were rooted in fear and misinformation, she started a journey to re-discover God’s heart for the sojourner. She holds a Masters of Biblical & Theological Studies from Dallas Theological Seminary and lives in Colorado Springs with her husband and two kids.

https://youtu.be/nSs4NNyQh54

Join us as we delve into an urgent and essential conversation about the imperative need to create safe spaces within our churches for men and women of all ages with special guest, Mary DeMuth.

Mary shares her deeply personal journey as an abuse survivor, shedding light on the challenges that many face when dealing with the aftermath of abuse. She brings her wealth of experience and expertise to our discussion as we confront the stark reality of how churches often fall short in responding to the needs of abuse victims.

Episode 32: At The Table with Ruth Ripken: Missions
https://youtu.be/6_zKaNoi2m8

Sometimes following God looks a lot like insanity. Today Ruth Ripken shares her story of being called to missions as a young girl to the moment where tragedy struck her and her husband leaving Africa questioning: “Is the gospel worth it?” Ruth will adamantly show us that the answer to that question is a resounding “yes” but it doesn’t come without life's hardships and steps of faith, because the mission of God isn’t a matter of location, it's a matter of obedience.

Ruth and her husband, Nik, along with their three sons served 36 years overseas. After seven years of working in Somalia (where anyone who chose to follow Jesus faced persecution), the Ripkens went to believers who live in places where that was the norm. They traveled to over 70 countries to learn from followers who live for Jesus under difficult circumstances and who want to help us partner wisely with them.

Episode 28: At The Table with Danielle Treweek: Singleness
https://youtu.be/jXeT9XsUF_U

On today’s episode, we answer the question: “How are we approaching singleness incorrectly as the church?” Dr. Danielle (Dani) Treweek offers biblical, historical, cultural, and theological reflections to retrieve a theology of singleness for the church today. She helps to teach us that we can better come alongside the singles in our lives as the Church lives out our eschatological view of being one family of brothers and sisters both in the present and in eternity.

Dani is a Christian theological researcher, author, and speaker whose ministry focus lies in resourcing Christian individuals & communities on biblical singleness, sexuality, theological retrieval, worldview formation & other related topics. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Sydney, a Bachelor of Divinity (Hons) from Moore Theological College (Sydney) and a Doctorate in Philosophy from St Mark's National Theological Centre, Canberra. Dani is an ordained deacon within the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, Australia where she also serves as the Diocesan Research Officer and as a member of the Diocesan Doctrine Commission.

Episode 27: At The Table with Carmen Imes: Bearing God’s Image
https://youtu.be/ofzxkAvKV1Q

What does it mean to be human and embodied as a female? Identity, purpose, and belief all flow out of our understanding of the creation story. Old Testament scholar and professor, Dr. Carmen Joy Imes joins us on our episode today to dig into the doctrine of the Imago Dei. Carmen emphasizes that every human being is bestowed with dignity and worth because we bear God's image. As our Creator, we have a natural longing for Him, but we also have a desire to make an impact through our lives.

To truly understand ourselves as women and thrive, it's important to understand our origins. By exploring themes from Genesis to the teachings of Jesus and how they impact our mission today, we can gain encouragement and insight.

Carmen (PhD, Wheaton College) is associate professor of Old Testament at Biola University. She is the author of “Being God's Image: Why Creation Still Matters”, “Bearing God's Name: Why Sinai Still Matters”, and “Praying the Psalms with Augustine and Friends.” Carmen loves helping Christians discover God's grace in the Old Testament by writing, speaking, and creating videos.

Episode 26: At The Table with Katie McCoy: What is Womanhood?
https://youtu.be/A-Z6prQbrvk

Kicking off season 2 is author and thought leader, Katie McCoy, PhD. Katie shares with us some of the stereotypes and misunderstandings that have led to a weakened understanding of God’s good design for gender identity and womanhood. She helps to take us back to the creation account and shows us how God’s intentionality in creating two genders to reflect His image and how we as women get to be “life-givers” in all different aspects of life.

Katie also shares about her new book, “To Be a Woman: The Confusion Over Female Identity and How Christians Can Respond.” It addresses the need to connect our biological sex and gender and some of the research around gender confusion, hormone therapy, and the current state of our younger generations and how to come alongside those we who are struggling. This is a timely and relevant conversation for all of us. Listen in and share it with other women you know.

https://youtu.be/sFC5dAHGoOU

Happy summer! We hope you are soaking in all the fun and time with your people. In just under a month we will be launching Season 2 of At The Table. In Season 2, we are walking through my new book, “The Calling of Eve: How the Women of the Bible Inspire the Women of the Church,” and looking at how God has used women all throughout redemptive history both in the Bible and through today. We have some incredible guests coming up like Kay Warren, Beth Moore, Karen Swallow Prior, and more.

Make sure to download the FREE Book Club Kit to go along with this season as you listen at ChurchAnswers.com/BookClub and share this with your friends, coworkers, and other women leaders.

Also, check out the top 2 episodes of Season 1:

Episode 13: Listen to Laurie Krieg and Jacki’s conversation on same sex attraction, the picture of marriage, and the gospel.

Episode 18: Listen to Lori McDaniel and Jacki’s discussion on the topic of “What’s the big deal about needing women in leadership?”
