Who is afforded pleasure in this society? Is embracing one’s sexuality the key to women’s empowerment? What can porn tell us about our society’s desires? Tune in to “S2E12: allegedly, i’m tryna fuck?!” as we unpack these questions and more!

Discernment or to discern means to know or recognize. Throughout the Spirit of Discernment series, I will be sitting down with amazing people to discuss what it means to distinguish between what is real and what is not.
In these 4 episodes, we will be touching on all the ways various entities, whether it be the State, your friends, your teachers, the media, or spiritual practitioners, try and alter our minds, our behaviors, our souls, our realities, and our senses of self.

In this episode, I sit down with Sunny and Elias, to discuss the importance of political education, American political activism, and how we spot bad faith political actors!
For an hour, we get into what political education means to us, the many ways in which one can acquire political education, and the perils that come without sound political knowledge!
In true icon fashion, we stay entertaining as hell, while also spittin straight facts. Giving y’all the 441 on how to cultivate political discernment!
I am so excited to share this series with y’all!! I started this project back in July and now, at the most divine timing, it’s finally time for it to grace yall’s lovely ears!
Enjoy! :)

“Nobody is going to teach you your true history, teach you your true heroes, if they know that that knowledge will help set you free.”
- Assata Shakur
Do we truly remember our history? That is the question we ask ourselves in “S2E10: allegedly, they’re rewriting history?!” Throughout the episode, we discuss the many ways in which our understandings of the past have been erased, distorted, and manipulated, and the implications this has on our understanding of ourselves and the world around us.
We go on to explore how we can become aware of revisionist narratives in order to pursue a true and liberatory understanding of what happened in our past, recognizing the necessity of using our true history to guide and inform the steps we take towards our future.

In “S2E9: allegedly, we're parenting our parents?!“ we hit on a much-requested topic: parenting. While none of us asked to be here, all of us are here… in other words, we all have parents! Whether they be biological, adoptive, step, or chosen, our parents have a major influence on us, for better or for worse. In this episode, we touch on navigating toxic parents, the demands of parenthood, and healing your inner child. Furthermore, we discuss how, as a society, we often wade into eugenicist territory when we discuss/determine “fit” for parenthood. Tune in as we ask ourselves about the effects of the nuclear family on parenting and childhood, as well as what it means to break generational curses (read: trauma). We hope you enjoy!

Before your ex comes back this Venus Retrograde, today we decided to give y’all a heads up and talk about the breakups! And no, not with that ex-bae, but with that ex-friend. In “S2E8: allegedly, i'm asking for a friend?!“ we talk about the grieving process of a friend breakup and what we’ve learned from our own personal friendship breakups.
Building off of “S1E12: allegedly, monogamy isn't it?!” (in this episode, Olivia refers to it as S1E7, but she meant 12! :)) we continue our discussion, touching on everything including love, social dynamics, conflict, vulnerability, communication, and more. Although we center friendships in our discussion, this episode is applicable to all our interpersonal relationships.
All our love to the fabulous bell hooks for writing her book, All About Love: New Visions, that inspired a lot of this conversation today. Thank you.

With the holiday season approaching, we thought it’d be fitting to use “S2E5: allegedly, we’re all doing rituals?!” to interrogate all the societal rituals we all unknowingly participate in.
In this episode, we clarify exactly what makes a set of behaviors or actions ritual, and exactly what the role of rituals are on a societal and interpersonal level. Whether it’s a daily routine, Thanksgiving, or the “American Dream,” we perform rituals every day. Join us on today’s episode as we explore the hidden ritual work of this society and discuss how we can gain awareness of such in order to define our own rituals and empower ourselves.

In “S2E4: allegedly, life is but a dream?!” we talk about something we all engage in for nearly a third of our lives: sleep! The place where we encounter our dreams and our imagination.
Western science, spiritual practitioners, and abolitionists have all come to varying and similar conclusions about the meaning and function of dreams and the imagination. In this episode, we attempt to synthesize it all, as we explore the dreamscape's existence as a place of refuge from reality.
This begs the question, are our dreams untouchable by our oppressors? What role does our imagination play in building a new world for ourselves and our society? How does the ability to dream affect our ability to process complex emotions and our collective social functioning? Join us on today’s episode as we delve into the topics of lucid dreaming, radical imagination, our personal and collective dreams for the future, and everything in between!

In a packed 40 minutes, we interrogate everything from stan culture, cancel culture, hyperreality, the Illuminati, and everything in between.
How are celebrities able to create and sustain the illusion of intimacy? What can we learn from celebrities as it pertains to the fight for liberation? How is the celebrity fascistic in nature? And what are the conditions that allow for stan culture to have such a stronghold in so many people? Stay tuned as we begin to unpack all these questions and more in today’s episode!

We know how much our adult selves are shaped by our childhood and in "S2E2: allegedly, the playground is a prison?!" we delve deeper into the early education experience. More specifically, we get into how our current US early education system serves as an indoctrination site for the State and examine the many ways in which it corrodes our connection with the world, ourselves, and each other.
From seemingly innocuous pretzel stick reward systems to Gifted and Talented programs, join us as we discuss all the ways in which the early education system has shaped us to become the ideal American subject.
In true allegedly?! fashion, we conclude by asking the question, “So, what now?” and look to revolutionary educator, Paulo Freire, for ways we can start addressing the long-lasting effects of our early educational experiences and start engaging in a truly liberatory education.

Hey y’all! We are so glad to be back! In our first episode of Season 2, we catch everyone up with a behind-the-scenes look at everything that’s been going on while we were away, both the good and the bad!
Since we last talked at the end of last season, so much has happened! We have watched our podcast grow rapidly, been censored & attacked on the internet, navigated major relationship fractures, sold handmade allegedly?! merch, and soo much more! Ultimately, the last few months have been filled with so much growth, hard work, passion, and reflection, and in this episode, we talk about it all with y’all! Keeping it 100% real… as always!
We end the episode with a sneak peek look at all the fun topics we have planned for the season ahead. As always, we are so grateful for all of you. Happy listening!

In S1E14 of allegedly?!, we run back the realness of this season. Like our last “keepin’ it real” episode, we dive into a fun conversation about life, ourselves, the experiences we’ve been having, and the lessons we’ve been learning.
As we chat about the lessons we’ve learned throughout this past life cycle (ty Scorpio Full Moon), we dive into the behaviors and aspects of ourselves that stem from our childhood experiences and the realizations we’ve come to from doing that inner-child work. Beyond that, we get into our feelings about the continuous journey of self-improvement, growth, healing, the ‘good’ sides, and the potentially ‘bad’ sides!
In pretty perfect timing for the Taurus New Moon a couple of days ago, we end the conversation touching on radical self-love, what it means, and ways to practice self-love and care! We hope y’all enjoy the conversation!

In S1E13 of allegedly?!, we talk about moneyyyy! *cha ching* During today’s episode, we unpack what it means to have a healthy relationship with money, as well as cultivate a mindset of abundance. We talk about how our society shapes our relationship with money and as a result, the importance of cultivating your own independent thought.
We explore how the labels of “rich” and “poor” affect how all of us navigate our society’s socioeconomic landscape, like how we relate to others, what we invest our energies into, and how we think about ourselves. Furthermore, how does being anti-capitalist shape the way we interact with money? Tap into the conversation!

In S1E12 of allegedly?!, we talk about relationships. Specifically, romantic versus platonic ones. In one of our recent viral TikToks, we asked thought-provoking questions on what actual distinction exists between romantic and platonic relationships. This TikTok started some pretty remarkable dialogue, and we created this episode to really dive in. We all know our society puts an emphasis on romantic relationships. We discuss exactly why that is, and more importantly, question if this societal norm is something that we want to subscribe to as we navigate the relationships in our life. Is this prioritization of romantic relationships something organic to our nature as human beings? Is it a pervasive social norm that has just been force-fed to us since we were children? Join us as we touch on a bunch of topics related to relationships, ranging from energy exchanges to shared value systems!
