With the arrival of Baby Sparrow just around the corner, Phoebe and Gary are far from prepared. With the nursery needing to be decorated and furniture still to be bought, Gary isn't worried as he knows he can sort it by using money to pay for a decorator and then to fund a trip to Harrods. One major stumbling block though... Gary has run out of wartime money. A trip back to the 90s to request some more from Ron doesn't go to plan, as Ron tells Gary that he will only print some more if Gary manages to convince Yvonne's friend to go on a date with Ron. A tricky dilemma as Yvonne's friend is more interested in exposing Gary as a time traveller, rather than to go on a date with Ron.

The Wedding Day has arrived for Gary and Phoebe, however it is anything but plain sailing for the celebrating couple! First and foremost Gary will actually need to wake up in the 1990s to ensure he can get to the church in time. After a heavy night of celebrating two stag parties, Gary isn't helped by the fact that Yvonne has turned off his alarm clock. Gary seems to be upsetting all that are close to him in both time eras. In the 1940s, Phoebe is struggling with all of the wedding planning, especially with Gary not pulling his weight, while Reg is struggling with all of the gossiping going around about his living arrangements with Margie. In the 1990s, Yvonne is trying out different types of therapies to help her come to terms with her miscarriage, and Ron moves into a rather fancy apartment.

A trip to the cinema gets Phoebe thinking about how they can give their future child the best possible start in life. Yvonne’s hopes of being a mother suffer a devastating blow as she returns home from Korea, as it now seems that Gary will have to make Yvonne his priority for the time being. Ron’s stay at Sparrow House is coming to an end as Yvonne heads back to the UK, but Ron is certainly upbeat after getting some female attention from a rather surprising source. Margie finally makes the brave decision to leave her abusive husband. Could Reg be the ideal man to help her through this tough time?

Gary and Phoebe are heading north to Liverpool to visit Phoebe’s Gran, to break the news to her about their engagement and also that they are expecting a baby together. Yvonne is still out in Korea, and Gary is back from rainy 1940s Kent, but there’s bad news in both eras in one way or another. In the 90s Ron finds Stella having an affair which leads to Ron reacting in a rather violent way that sees him locked up in a cell, whilst back in the 40s, some shocking news leaves Phoebe and Reg absolutely devastated, but in a weird twist of fate the news could act as a new exciting beginning for Gary.

Phoebe and Yvonne are both struggling with the side effects of being pregnant. Whether it’s morning sickness or mood swings, Gary is still trying to get to grips with how the two ladies of his life are coping. Yvonne reminds Gary that they are looking after their nephew for a few days. A simple task to get them used to parenting. However, looking after a six year old becomes more of a hassle than was first thought as Gary loses him, with the possibility that the little lad may have found his way back to the 1940s.

I was lucky enough to talk with Dave from Idiot Box Books, which is the company that is hoping to raise enough funds to get a new Goodnight Sweetheart book published.
Dave and I talk about our shared love for Goodnight Sweetheart, and why they have chosen to revive the classic sitcom in book form.
When the option of a seventh series of Goodnight Sweetheart was turned down by the BBC, there were so many questions about what Gary Sparrow was up to after the 2016 special episode.
Well now we may get the answers as Idiot Box Books have teamed up with Goodnight Sweetheart writers, Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, in the hope that enough funds can be raised so that we can potentially get series seven, in the form of a book.

Back in the 1940’s the Americans have arrived in Britain to help out in the war, and it’s The Royal Oak where they have chosen to relax and have a drink. Phoebe and Reg are overjoyed at all of these new exciting individuals… Gary, however, isn’t as thrilled! When one of the Americans starts causing a scene in the pub, Reg and Phoebe step up to put the man in his place, as Gary witnesses first hand what segregation was really like when it came to white people and black people.

Gary is playing the ‘sickness’ card as he tries to convince Yvonne that he was too poorly to go to the job interview that Yvonne had arranged for him. While back in the 40’s, there are no fake illnesses, just a serious illness, as Phoebe is hospitalised with pneumonia, leaving Gary worried for her life, which will see him go to extreme lengths to make her better again. With Gary’s full attention on Phoebe, Gary is left stunned when Yvonne reveals her own secret, leaving Gary struggling to juggle two relationships that are fifty years apart.

While at first angry with her new lodger, Yvonne warms to having Ron around after finding out what Stella is getting up to behind Ron’s back. Gary has major worries about Ron and Yvonne’s friendship, as Ron starts threatening to reveal all of Gary’s secrets to Yvonne. Back in 1942, Phoebe’s cousins, Peter and Sally, come back to London amidst some rather wintery weather.
