Once, when people left,
they were gone for good.
No calls, no texts, just… absence.
Memories blotting, fading
like damp ink on cheap paper.
But now the past has Wi-Fi.
It returns with profile pictures,
familiar faces, unfamiliar eyes.
So when I got your number,
the past seeped in,
water sliding under a door,
flooding the room before I could stop it.
The light in your eyes
no longer calls me.
A glass river runs between us,
its waters cold.
I see you like a traveler at a café window,
watching a stranger as she stirs her tea.
It might have been easier,
safer, cleaner
to stumble on you on social,
send a thoughtless friend request,
scroll past your photos,
linger at your collarbone for a moment too long,
drop two pity likes, a lazy comment.
Now the number waits in my phone like a dare.
I will not call, meet, or message you.
I wish you well, a final goodbye,
I leave you as silence leaves its weight in the air,
As a candle leaves its warmth in a dark room.

अग्नि परीक्षा के दौर में,
संकट के भीषण शोर में,
अनिश्चितता के घात में,
अकेलेपन से भरी रात में,
दुश्मन की तीखी ललकार में,
अपनों के कटु तिरस्कार में,
भ्रम की गहरी गुफाओं में,
ठिठुरती हुई सर्द हवाओं में,
आत्म-संशय के कोहरे में,
प्रलय के पहले झोंके में,
सागर के गहरे मंथन में,
काल के प्रचंड बंधन में,
मनुष्य के संस्कार, प्रकाश बन जाते हैं,
उसके सत्कर्म ही, नयी राह दिखते हैं।

कौन बताए परिंदे को कि साथी अब बिछड़ गया,
नया नया सा, बसा हुआ घरौंदा अब उजड़ गया।
नाम पूछ कर, निहत्थों का किया गया जो नर संहार,
ये कैसा रण है दरिंदों, कैसा साहस, कैसा हाहाकार?
बिछड़े जीवन साथी, अधूरी कहानी, ख़्वाब छोड़ गए,
दिल में तराने, उमंग लिये मुसाफ़िर, ताबूतों में लौट गए।
इंसानियत का लहू आज फिर से वादी ने पिया है,
जन्नत जहन्नुम बन गयी, जब पहलगाम जला है।
पूछें क्या हम ज़िंदगी से, कि किसका ये क़सूर था?
जो फूल लेने आए थे, उन्हें काँटों ने क्यों चूर दिया?

That short, sweet, deceptive word.
That unreliable friend that never shows up.
“I’ll call her someday.”
“I’ll trek to the valley of flowers.”
“I’ll follow my dream when things settle down.”
But,
things never settle down.
Life rolls forward,
indifferent to our ‘I wills’.
The lives we touch.
The love we give.
The work that matters.
These are not promises of tomorrow.
They are invitations for now.
So if it’s in your heart,
Don’t wait.
Make that call.
Take that trek.
Say it. Do it. Be it.
Don’t die with it still inside you.
Fill your days wanting what you have.
Life doesn’t wait for you to feel ready.

I write to wash the bitterness and pain,
Like dusty roads soothed by summer rain.
In the wilderness of words, I find a release,
Atoning for promises I’ve failed to keep.
I write for hope, to turn dark to dawn,
To lay down burdens I’ve held for too long.
Old ghosts dance on pages, unbound,
Lurking in spaces where no words are found.
I write to thaw the skies where winter hides,
Morning blooms for those who silence their cries.
I capture moments before they slip away,
Grasping a desperate hand, hoping it will stay.
I write to soar above the urban sprawl,
Explore realms, connect with souls afar.
In the ocean of words, I anchor my soul,
A sailor finding wrecks and making them whole.
I write to stir the quiet pond with sound,
A ripple where the silence wraps around.
Each word a seed in the cracks of stone,
Hoping it blooms where none has grown.
I write because it’s all I’ve ever known,
To keep my heart from hardening into stone.

जीवन की शाम जब आती है
तो घर के लिये दिल मचलता है
उम्र गुज़र गई, हम ढूँढते ही रहे
किस मोड़ पर तेरे दिल का रास्ता है
तेरी आरज़ू चंद कवितायें बन गयीं
तेरी हसरतों की हसरत करते ही रहे
अगर ग़ौर से पढ़ती, इल्म होता तुम्हें
मेरे लफ़्ज़ों में तेरा अक्स झलकता है
एक पौधा हूँ जो कभी उगा ही नहीं
अनखिली कलियों का दम भरता है
तनहाइयों से काम चलता है लेकिन
तेरी क़ुर्बत के लिए दिल तरसता है
एक मिट्टी से बनी हम दोनों की रूह
एक लय पर अपना दिल धड़कता है
तेरे उजाले, बसंत की चाह नहीं मुझे
दिल ढूँढता तेरे दर्द, ग़म का रास्ता है

A Father’s Scars

I scrubbed myself clean,
Of your dissapproval, doubting hands.
Your expectations, harsh demands,
Your stinging sarcasm, cold reprimands.
I cleansed my soul, in a valley of stars,
Far from the shadows, far from your scars.
I healed myself of your bitterness,
Unsung songs, untold tales of distress.
Your haunting loneliness, disdain,
Your broken heart, silent screams of pain.
With threads of night, I wove my dreams,
Stitched in secret, sewn in moonbeams.
I chose a life both small and still,
No need for glory, no mountain to fill.
I hibernated, while others chased the light,
Content in shadows, far out of sight.
And one fine day, through all those years,
In the heart of darkness, I quelled my fears.
And then, when decades quietly passed,
Your memory was fading, slipping fast.
Your poems, your eyes bright and true,
Your stories returned, you came back too.
In the quiet, your love broke through,
And finally, Dad, I remembered you.

रहगुज़र - सर्वजीत
कुछ रास्ते ऐसे होते हैं कि
इन्सान को मुसाफ़िर बना देते हैं
अगर भूल जाओ, हस्ती को अपनी
मंज़िल होगी कहीं, इसका गुमान देते हैं
बैठे बैठे सोचते हैं अक्सर कभी
बिछड़ा शहर, आँगन कैसा होगा
जिस घर को छोड़ दिया पीछे
उस घर में राह कोई देखता होगा
रास्तों में उलझा रहा अपना सफ़र
घर कभी ना फिर कोई नसीब हुआ
अकेले दौड़ती रही उम्मीद, तमन्ना
ना हमसफ़र, ना कोई अज़ीज़ हुआ
क्या यह है सफ़र की इंतिहा
कि राह भी थक कर सो गयी है
हम रुके नहीं चलते ही रहे
मंजिले सराब में खो सी गयी हैं
अपनी मर्ज़ी का अपना सफ़र था
ना जाने किस दर्द का हवाला था
ना ठहरे हुए से तालाब की ठंड थी
ना बहते पानी का जोश गवारा था
मुसाफ़िर हो जैसा, सफ़र वैसा होता है
रहमत हो ख़ुदा की ग़र, मौसम हसीं होता है
रहगुज़र खोज लेती ही है खुद-ब-खुद
जिस किरदार का राही उसे ढूँढता है

तुम भूल जाओ बेशक ,याद करो न कभी
उजड़े घर में तुम्हारी खुशबू अब भी आती है
तुम्हारा दीदार, सूखे सावन जैसा इंतज़ार
तुम्हारे हिस्से की तन्हाई अभी बाकी है
तुम छोड़ दो मुझे बेबस ,मँझधार में कहीं
तुम्हारी बेवफ़ाई में विवशता नज़र आती है
सूनी रात, सूने तारों से लिपटा आसमान
तुम्हारे हिस्से की रुसवाई अभी बाकी है
ख़ुदा ने उड़ा दिया साथ बैठे दो परिंदों को
झूलती हुई डाल में तुम्हारी याद ताजी है
ना मिलीं तुम, छान लिया मोहल्ला, आसमाँ
तुम्हारे हिस्से की जुदाई अभी बाकी है
यह सच है कि हमारे इश्क में वो शिद्दत नहीं
मैं हूँ आवारा मदहोश, तू एक हसीं साक़ी है
बेशकीमती नहीं, चलो दो कौड़ी की सही

When love is gone,
Our hearts sink deep,
Into a cold ocean bed,
Feelings disperse in winter winds.
Weary silence sits in once-fun-filled rooms,
Pets run away and become wild,
Stars that sparked our nights darken and dim.
Regrets sneak into a colourless world,
Our cozy house crumbles to dust,
Birds visiting our garden, do not sing.
Our words become knives,
Emptiness fills spaces between the sheets,
We are deaf to each other's heartbeats.
Trees choose sides, split vertically in two,
We depart with suitcases, packed long ago,
Our story spins backwards into time.
Soulmates become strangers,
Swallowing our souls,
Our psyches seared with a thousand scars,
Leaving behind a trail of heartless hearts.

तुम अपनी जाती नहीं हो
ना धर्म, ना आधार का नंबर
ना लिबास, ना हुलिया
ना अपनी औपचारिकता
ना बैंक बैलेंस, न दर्जा
ना तुम्हारे बारे में किसी की राय
ना अपनी परिस्थितियों की उपज
ना तुम्हारा अहंकार, ना किसी दौड़ के चूहे
तुम तुम्हारे शब्द हो, और खामोशियाँ भी
अपनी हँसी की शरारत हो, ज़ोर सा ठहाका
वह गाथाएँ, उपन्यास, किताबें जो तुमने पढ़ी हैं
वो गाँव-शहर जहाँ तुमने जीवन बिताया है
तुम्हारे पिता का गर्व से उठा हुआ सर हो
माँ के मुन्ना-मुन्नी, गंगा जमुना तहज़ीब हो
दोस्तों का गली गलौज वाला अपनापन हो
तुम्हारे संस्कार, अदब, बड़ों का लिहाज़ हो
वो पल हो, जिनका तुमने खूब आनन्द लिया
वो स्थल जो तुमने गर्मियों की छुट्टी में घूमे
भूले-बिसरे लोकगीत, जो तुम चाव से गाते हो
अपने अंदर की रोशनी, अटल विश्वास हो
वह चुनौतियाँ, वह वादे जो तुमने निभायें हैं
वह सब हो जिससे तुमने बेइंतहा मोहब्बत की
आंसू जो तुमने किसी की याद में बहाये हैं
वह गुजरे हुए लोग जो तुम्हें बेहद अज़ीज़ थे
हर कदम पर खुलती हुई, एक अद्भुत पहेली हो
सपना हो, जो उभर रहा है, बोझिल हो रहा है
बेरंग रूह हो, जो जीवन रंगों का रस ले रही है
शांत सागर हो, और दिल में उमड़ता तूफ़ान भी
आँधियों से बग़ावत करता, जलता चिराग़ हो
एक मूल हो, जो फोटो कॉपी नहीं बनना चाहता
तुम्हारे विचारों से तामीर होती, एक नयी राह हो
अपार ब्रह्मांड हो जो निरंतर फैलता जा रहा है

In every aspect, constrict our view
Venture out, be uncomfortable, alone
Life blossoms at the edge of comfort zone
The frontier calls, there are new things to see
Possibilities are endless, you may truly be free
How far you could’ve gone, what you might’ve been
It’s never too late to live a life of your dreams
Leave the harbour, let shores fade fade from view
Start afresh, a new challenge waits for you
Shed mediocrity, be an explorer and roam
Audacious adventures await, for you to own
Go far ahead, beyond the point of return,
Ditch monotony for stuff you’ve never done
Lose the familiar, embrace the unseen
Unleash the self you've forever been
Someday your future will intertwine with your past
Who knows, you may do your best work perhaps
On this journey you’ll find out who you are
Your core, of what you are made of

एक शहरी का गाँव - सर्वजीत
जब गाँव हाईवे से जुड़ जाएगा
कोई भूला-भटका, वापस आएगा
दौड़ता हुआ शहरी, ग़र थमेगा कभी
अपनी जड़ों को कैसे भुला पाएगा?
बड़े सपनों को आँखों में लिए
गाँव वाला शहर गया था कभी
छोटे बचपन की यादें संजोए
माँ का घर खाली हो गया तभी
इमारतों में बसा, पत्थर सा बन रहा
शहरी सालों बाद, अपने गाँव आता है
आम के बगीचे, दोस्तों की टोली, टपरी
एक दिन में शहरी, बरसों जी जाता है
चंद घरों की बस्ती, जंगल से जुड़ी
गाँव कहाँ शुरू, ख़त्म हो जाता है
अपनी है नहर, ज़मीन, टीले, आसमां
फ्लैट में क़ैद शहरी, रिहा हो जाता है
दो ढलानों के बीच, सुंदर घाटी की सैर
फूलों की तरह, शहरी खिल सा जाता है
अपना सा पड़ोस, जहाँ है खुशी की गूंज
समय धीमा, शहरी भी थम सा जाता है
जितनी है ज़रूरत, उतना क़ुदरत ने दिया
गाँव छोटी ख़ुशियों में खुश हो जाता है
जितना है पर्याप्त है, गुजर-बसर के लिए
थका-हारा शहरी, माँ के आँगन में सो जाता है

Of Heartstrings, Roots & Wings - Sarvajeet D Chandra
A father’s bond with a growing son
Is full of unspoken words
Fleeting moments of tenderness
An occasional flash of rebellion
Odd scuffle for the mother’s attention
It needs laughs, conversations
Bonhomie over sports and cars
Debates over Elon Musk and Mars
When the son was a small child
The father was a tree with bright eyes
In his shelter, life was full of joy
On his branches the child could dream & fly
As the young man prepares to take flight
The father frets to impart the lessons of life
The boy needs to grow, be unshackled, undone
A father’s dormant desires, speaks to his son
Son learns from a father’s example each day
To be truthful, live in a compassionate way
As souls they’ve journeyed through time and space
Shared springs, victory, winters, disgrace
A father prays his son will journey light
Free of expectations, anxieties, fright
Free from the karma of ancestors before
May he find his path and journey more
Father knows he must believe in his boy
Youth must chase what fills its heart with joy
And though it’s hard for him to step aside
He'll offer to be a friend, to be a guide
One day the father will be grey and weak
He’ll wonder if my son ever thinks of me
He’ll miss the boy who slept on his tummy
Who smelt of love, burps, milk and honey
Finally the father will fade into gold dust and air
His son may sense that he is still there
In the high rise, recliner, empty cup of tea
In the old car, in the congested city street
In blurred skylines, the edges of the sea
In his soul, in the warmth of the winter sun
The fathers eyes will always guard his son

मैं बहुत कुछ चाहता था तुझमें
उजालों के संग, तेरा अंधकार
मिठास के साथ, तेरा कड़वापन
रातों के बिखरे हुए तेरे बाल
तेरी ख़लिश, बेबस सी मुस्कान
तेरी सुबह की नींद भरी आवाज़
तेरी आशंकाएँ, टूटे हुए सपने
सोंधी मिट्टी सी तेरी ख़ुशबू
तेरे बदन पर खिलते गुलाब
तेरे कंधे पर खरोंच के निशान
तेरे आँगन के जलते-बुझते दीप
तेरी बाँहों का ज़ोर से चिमटना
काँटों से चुभते, बेचैन नाख़ून
पहाड़ी फूलों से भरे तेरे रास्ते
मंज़िल ढूँढते, तेरे भटके कदम
स्वाभिमान से भरी तेरी आँखें
तेरी हसरतें, अधूरी सी मुराद
तेरा नूर, सर का दिलकश झुकाव
झलकती हुई पलकों की खामोशी
बिना तारों का, तेरा ख़ाली आसमान
मैं इस दुनिया में कुछ भी चाह सकता था
पर झड़े पत्ते, ठंड में छुपी बहार चाहता था
तेरी विभिन्नताएँ, तेरे रद्द-ओ-बदल मौसम
तेरी रूह की शबनम, तेरा सार चाहता था

परिंदों से भरा आसमान - सर्वजीत
हर किसी को अपनी खोज से
मुख़ातिब करा दे मालिक
कई नीरस जीवन सुधर जायेंगे
जो बेरंग, नाशाद, सुस्त से बैठे हैं
किसी तलाश में मसरूफ़ हो जाएँगे
जीवन में एक नया आशय पायेंगे
मूक, असहाय, अन्याय सहते हुओं को
अपनी आवाज़ से परिचित करा दे मालिक
जर्जर नाव में बैठे, तूफ़ानों से भिड़ जायेंगे
बार बार टूट कर, जुड़ने का साहस पायेंगे
दरिन्दों से स्वाभिमान, हक़ छीन लेंगे अपना
बहाने नहीं, संवृद्धि के रास्ते खोज लायेंगे
पंख हैं, पर मछली बन बेढब तैरते हैं
अपनी आशंकाओं से ही घिरे रहते हैं
किसी और के सपनों को रोज़ जीते हैं
ख़ुद के हुनर से रूबरू करा दे मालिक
फिर सब अपना खेल खेलेंगे, गीत गायेंगे
ख़ाली आसमान, परिंदों से भर जाएँगे
