Pre-Shot Routine

Does it feel like you rush up to your ball and just take your shot without much thought? Just racing to get the shot in. Or maybe you're just not sure what you're supposed to do over the ball cause there are so many conflicting thoughts and ideas about how to hit a good shot. Check out this episode on how to build a simple pre-shot process. The pre-shot process is the one thing we can control about our game and helps us stay present for the shot at hand.

There are 3 phases to a great pre-shot process. That's the Think, Feel and Do phases. If you can master these, and use them consistently for a majority of shots, you can see your scores drop pretty quickly.

Impact - Fight Fire with Fire

Instruction tends to focus on things like grip and ball position and swing plane when you're first starting out but there is no perfect swing. What they should focus on is impact training.

We tend to want to be more consistent as golfers, but we are actually very consistent naturally - just usually it's with the errors we're making. One way to be consistently hitting the sweet spot of the club is to try a method called fight fire with fire where we exaggerate our misses on the opposite side of the spectrum so our body can feel what that's like.

Balance and Stability

Falling over or just not hitting the ball consistently on the face? Might have to do with your balance and stability.

Balancing while essentially spinning around is not easy. Next to tempo and tension, this is why we don't have consistent strikes. And it's not something that you can improve by just reading about it. Balance is so much more subjective in a sense, it's something you have to feel. So, we'll do exactly that today.

Gain better balance through exaggerating your imbalance.

Tee Shot Pressure

Are you finding your range sessions getting dull? It's probably due to lack of competitive practice added to your routine.

In this episode we go over adding some tee shot pressure with a fun game where we narrow the fairway after completing each level.

Mental Game - Pre-Shot

Golf is a mental game, right?! Well part of it is - a large part. But we can't think our way around the course. We have to establish that mind-body-feeling connection.

In this episode we go over the one question you can use to hack your mindset during your pre-shot. Couple this with your breathing while being present and you've got a winning formula.

Being Present

Being Present is something we are told to do and has become sort of cliche to just get off your phone for a bit. But being present doesn't happen for as long as we might think. How can we use those precious seconds in our favor.

Breathing. It's something we do ~22,000 times a day. If we can be present for just 1-2 of those each shot, we can improve how we play.

Eliminate Tension & Overtightness || The Sequel

Want to start making your swing look like it's easy and not so mechanical? Overtightness or tension may be your biggest hinderance of that.

We overtighten for a number of reasons, but mainly it's due to doubt in ourselves. If we're thinking too much about how to swing the way you want your body is tightening up as a stress response. This is how you start swinging very mechanically and feels like you're "trying" to hit the ball rather than having a smooth swinging motion.

Like to hum? Then you'll love today's practice.

You'll hear two quick things you can do on the range is get aware of where that tightness is and then focus on overtightening (seems counterintuitive) to achieve a more relaxed state.
