In the meantime, this episode is released on "Araw ng Kagitingan" or Day of Valor, and the premiere of GOMBURZA on Netflix. Despite this national holiday, there seems to a a kind of fatigue and cynicism surrounding nationalism these days. Here, I relate Randy David's discussion on political despair with the need to continue the civic excitement ignited by GOMBURZA.

The 2023 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) was one of the highest grossing festivals our country has had in years. The top-grossing and most-watched movie from this line-up is Rewind(2023) starring Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera. In this Bonus episode, I invited my Dad to discuss what Rewind says about Marriage, Gender roles, Family Values, Jesus Christ and Story-telling in Filipino films.
This episode was prompted after I discovered the exciting, incisive, and polemical book, Post-Dilawan Cinema and the Pandemic(2023) at the BLTX Small Press expo. We discuss Philippine Cinema through the lens of class struggle with the book's Author, Epoy Deyto. The conversation spans the issues of movie-going, how ph cinema alienates the poor, the ideological content of films, the intersections of politics and business in Philippine Cinema, and Metro Manila Film Festival.

Apologies if the sound for this episode is off. My microphone had technical difficulties so I had to re-dub my parts for audio clarity.
For this holiday season, this episode will talk about mental health We always hear a lot about mental health. This may contain sensitive themes. We heara lot of buzzwords like anxiety, depression, toxicity, stress, trigger warnings etc . While many dismiss it as a lack of faith or resilience or a fad among the youth, there is a real phenomenon ofan increasing number of diagnoses, which need medication and therapy, and at extreme cases may lead to self-harm and suicide. Many people have integrated mental health into popular discourse but there are still other parts of society that do not understand or tolerate it. There is a lot we do not fully understand about this reality. This week, we have two guests RS Mojica and Bill Fuentes from Mental Health PH, to hopefully help us understand and demystify mental health and how ordinary citizens can address this issue.
