Nacho Libre
Is this your Lucha Libre inspired high flying, wrestling based adventure comedy film? NO! ... it's NACHO comedy film! not... your... nacho. get it? Ugh.

From the mind of Director Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Minecraft) comes the story of Ignacio; friar, cook, and secret lucha wrestler. Jack Black stars in this 2006 comedy. And with the unnecessary fart noise of Nacho Libre ringing in our ears, we bid a fond farewell to wrestle-tober; a month where we all learned something and that wrestling films are the friends we body slammed along the way. So now it's wrapped up just in time for the Spooky season of halloween to sneak on in, for a bit of fun to round out the month.

The whole wrestling team is in this episode, and even though they are all wearing lucha masks... you can tell who is who.
Synopsis
Ignacio (Jack Black), or Nacho to his friends, works as a cook in the Mexican monastery where he grew up. The monastery is home to a host of orphans whom Nacho cares for deeply, but there is not much money to feed them properly. Nacho decides to raise money for the children by moonlighting as a Lucha Libre wrestler with his partner Esqueleto (Héctor Jiménez), but since the church forbids Lucha, Nacho must disguise his identity.

The Wrestler
Despite his failing health and rapidly diminishing fame, Randy "The Ram" Robinson (Mickey Rourke) continues to eke out a career as a professional wrestler... partially due to financial hardship and partially in an attempt to hold on to the success of his heyday. Is his world improved by the quest to find love and redemption in the arms of Marisa Tomei's "aging" exotic dancer? Megaforce
From the deepest darkest corners of the 1980s comes a film that most will never have heard of... And for pretty good reason: it's ridiculously cheesy, utterly misogynistic, completely ridiculous and it may well be the reason camping chain Kathmandu is going out of business: because its just THAT camp! But it's Dion's cult cinema choice, and its hard to look past its godawful costumes and insane vehicle designs... But if you do you'll find something quite fascinating: you'll find te core text that informed such properties as G.I.Joe, MASK, The A-Team and in later years Team America: World Police.

The movie is called Megaforce and it is the absolute definition of cult cinema. some will love it, many will hate it. but it's sure got something to say.

All of the team are here, though some more begrudgingly than others and Peta's "But Why's?" are so numerous and loud, that we though we'd actually broken her.

Eddington
Divisive, challenging, disquieting; all adjectives that have been placed upon Ari Aster's previous works Hereditary, Midsommar and Beau is Afraid. It's good then that his latest work Eddington continues to encompass these and many more adjectives in its two and half hour running time. Like every film at the moment is stars Pedro Pascal, but unlike every film it also stars Joaquin Phoenix and Emma Stone. A tale of misinformation and miscommunication set in the height of the pre-vaccinated pandemic; It's not going to be for everyone. And in fact it was even for all of us. But it's got a LOT to be unpacked and discussed.

Dion, Jill and Quinny are all in for this one, and honestly none of them are sure who is who in this messy narrative.

Red Sonja
It's been an age since we've seen Red Sonja... a Hyborian Age in fact! Since the characters creation in 1934, her adaption to comics in 1973 and the first film's release in 1985, she has caught the minds of innumerable great creators, artists and storytellers. She has also shown up in this film.

After 2008's aborted Robert Rodriguez helmed version which was to star Rose McGowan, it's been a long time between drinks for the OG beautiful barbarian. it's obviously harder to get actors interested in scale mail bikinis in the modern market... it seems you just have to wait long enough and drop the budget enough that eventually someone just says "Screw it, why not?" and thats how we got here...

All four of the review team are in for this review, "Occasionally Red Jill", "Pleasantly Earth-toned Peta", and "Concerningly Puce Dion". Though they are all mightily annoyed with "No Confirmed Colour Quinny" for his terrible choice... He's in movie-choosing-jail for a while yet to come...

Alien: Earth & Peacemaker S2
We're cracking the whip again for another episode of TPToA's TV round-up! This time we're rounding up superheroes (or superhero-adjacent guys) and Xenomorphs! It's Alien: Earth and the second Season of Peacemaker! In the new DCU no-one can hear you scream, but they can judge your dancing. Alien: Earth is the new ongoing series from Noah Hawley (Legion, Fargo) and it follows a crashed spaceship spilling forth it's deadly cargo of alien threats. Peacemaker season 2 is technically a part of James Gunn's new DC Universe, and it is taking no prisoners in distancing itself from the previous iteration of reality.  Are either of them any good? Weapons
Kids are creepy right? We can all agree on that? Well, you know whats even creepier? When there are meant to be kids and they aren't there. Or even worse... there's just one. Weapons is the new horror from Zach Cregger starring Julia Garner, Josh Brolin and Alden Ehrenreich, whose first break out hit Barbarian scared the hell out of us... and guess what? K-Pop Demon Hunters sounds like a joke title, but this action packed adventure/romance/musical/ martial arts action film... is really something different! The surprise animated hit of the year which has been not only smashing streaming video records (thats Netflix for ya), but also demolishing the music charts (Golden hitting no. 1 on Spotify!) is something nobody saw coming, but now that it's here we may never be the same! Its a heady mix of Korean mythology, flying swords-person action, heartbreaking romance, radical self acceptance and all with a K-Pop soundtrack that lets be clear... absolutely slaps.

Synopsis
K-Pop Demon Hunters" tells the story of a K-pop girl group, Huntrix, who are also demon hunters, tasked with protecting the world from demons and their king, Gwi-Ma. They use their music to maintain a magical barrier called the Honmoon and work towards strengthening it into the Golden Honmoon, which would permanently banish demons. Their mission is complicated when a rival demon boy band, the Saja Boys, emerges, stealing their fans and weakening the Honmoon.

Superman (2025)
Look, up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Is it another confused entry into the DC Extended Universe pantheon of super hero films?! No!!! This is something else entirely! James Gunn (Peacemaker, Guardians of the Galaxy) takes on the D.C. Universe with Superman and is clearly building something new and different… but crucially; is it any good? It’s made a butt-tonne of cash, and out-scored the Snyder-verse it is taking over from, but does it have a beating heart?

There's some division in the ranks over this one, with everyone having a very different approach to this film that is not just rebooting a universe, but attempting to wash away some of the bad vibes of 12 years of questionable decisions. The whole team is in for this with Dion and Jill in our legion of Doom and Quinny and Peta suiting up as the Justice Gang.

Jurassic World: Rebirth
For a franchise that started with a single book and then a begrudging sequel, the fact that we are now 7 Films, two sub-titles, two Netflix animated shows and numerous games deep, tells us a lot about the state of the entertainment industry... (rather than the quality of that first book.) We have moved past the Jurassic park, beyond even the Jurassic World... we are now living in a post Jurassic planet. So if this film a true rebirth of a franchise, or the should this egg have been left in the incubator a bit longer.

Dion and Jill have seen this weeks film, but Quinny is definitely here for emotional support and colour commentary.

The B1tc# is B@ck is not the tagline for this movie... but it could very easily have been.  After the surprise hit that was the first M3gan, Blumhouse have done what they do best, and that is turn around a moderately budgeted sequel in a surprisingly quick time. Does this make for an excellent film that expands the original property and deepens the lore and background of the character?  No.

Does is make for an energetic romp that features not one but two murderous cyborgs with dead, doll-like eyes, doing martial arts and ridiculous stunts?  Possibly. Listen in the full review to get the down low on the download.

Synopsis
Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous rampage, its creator, Gemma, has become an advocate for government oversight of AI. The Last 28 Years of Us
The last 28 years (or there abouts) of zombie films have really changed the face of the genre. With the introduction of fast zombies, and then the addition of different zombie types; like Rage monsters, infected, fungus monsters, behemoths, clickers, alphas, etc... we have come a long way from the barely threatening shambling shufflers of yesteryear. We're not even confined to the big screen any more, with Zombies being perfect fodder for prestige TV, as well as cinema screens. Two watershed moments are our topic for discussion in this show; the continuation of the genre re-defining 28 Days later series and the second season of the Televisual video game adaptation tour-de-force series The Last of Us.

In this episode both Dion and Jill are your designated survivors, while Quinny and Peta both try to outrun hordes of zombies in very different parts of the world.
Synopsis
It's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped from a biological weapons laboratory. Still living in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amid the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily defended causeway. When one of them decides to venture into the dark heart of the mainland, he soon discovers a mutation that has spread to not only the infected, but other survivors as well.

Andor and Rogue One
9 Years ago (BBY?) Rogue One was released and a lot of people enjoyed the darker, more serious take on the Star Wars universe. However it felt like an outlier, and for many it didn't fit in with everything else in that galaxy Far Far away.

3 years ago Andor was released. It was show many thought was unnecessary, exploring the backstory of a secondary character many hadn't really embraced. "nobody asked for this" was a regular comment. Oh how that attitude was to change upon it's release!

Today, the two seasons of Andor are a high water-mark for not just Star Wars, but TV dramas in general. And they way that they have re-contextualised Rogue One is nothing short of revalatory.

In this podcast we look back at the two seasons of the show, and then dig down looking for the deep substrate foliated calcite at the heart of these shows and movies.

Dion is our rogueish hero, Jill is the far less creepy non-cgi Leia at the end of Rogue One and Quinny is definitely the Glub Shitto of this podcast.
Synopsis
this story follows Cassian Andor, a thief and mercenary, five years before Rogue One. He's seeking his sister, Kerri, and becomes involved in the nascent rebellion against the Empire after killing two security guards. He then seeks refuge on Ferrix, where he and his friend Bix are drawn into a black market deal involving an Imperial tech unit. Season two then spans the intervening 5 years leading up to the events of the movie which will ultimately dovetail into Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope
