What an incredible Director December we have so far at The Movie Calendar where we have sung the praises of one of cinemas most prolific film makers. Who would’ve thought that a film about bank-robbing surfers being hunted by the FBI could have so many philosophical and spiritual motifs? Kathryn Bigelow did. This week we hit the beach and dive into the majestic world of POINT BREAK. This early 90’s action classic cemented Keanu Reeves as a star and introduced the world to Patrick Swayze’s bank-robbing, charismatic and philosophical Bodhi. This was a fun episode to research and record, there are a lot interesting stories about the making of this film that we discovered and discuss this week. Based off the play “In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue”, MOONLIGHT tells the story of a young African-American man named Chiron who struggles with his identity and sexuality in a tough neighbourhood in Miami.
