The Cover Brothers
"Further On Up The Road" - With Special Guest Dov Levy
"I got a song to sing to keep me out of the cold, and I'll meet you further on up the road." On this reunion episode of the Cover Brothers, the full Cover Family is back and talking music once again. Dov Levy calls in and the Bro's discuss the song Further On Up the Road by Bruce Springsteen. They clear up some confusion about the song's origin story, they pick a part the arrangement of Johnny Cash's posthumous folk cover, and breakdown the Live In Dublin Irish rendition by Bruce and the Seeger Sessions Band. Micah rambles about music theory, Judah quotes John Mulaney, and Dov's connection gets lost half way through. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

The Cover Brothers
"History of Covers Through The Ages - Part 2" - With Special Guest Dr. Charles Garrett
On Part 2 of our interview with Dr. Charles Garrett, we continue our conversation on the history of cover music through the ages. After decades of successful cover music, the 80, 90's, and early 2000's bring about a decline in the cover music scene as a rise in both anti-establishment genres and pop stardom favor the original over the cover artist. The hip hop and rap scenes add further challenges for covering, but introduce the "cousins" of the cover, the sample and remix, bringing about a new world of musical sharing. Finally, the Youtube and American Idol era mark a return to cover music and continued growth in music technology suggests a potentially bright future for music collaboration and covering. Listen to Dr. Garrett discuss how AI may be the musical technology of the future, as well as answer questions about his favorite covers, his favorite Beatle, and who he would draft for his fantasy rock band. Enjoy.

"History of Covers Through The Ages - Part 1" - With Special Guest Dr. Charles Garrett
On this 2 part episode, The Cover Bros sat down with Dr. Charles Garrett, professor of musicology at the University of Michigan, and author of the book Struggling to Define a Nation: American Music and the Twentieth Century. The Bros and Dr. Garret delve deep into the history books as Dr. Garrett explores the history of music and cover music from classical music, traditional blues and folk, jazz, rock n' roll, punk and pop, hip hop and rap, and everything in between. They discuss how technology and society have impacted artists' ability and desire to cover music, how copyright laws have influenced these decisions and left room for modern day lawsuits, and they look towards the future and consider what new innovations such as AI and social media platforms can bring to the world of music creation, collaboration, and covering.

"Jerry Week Special" - With Special Guests Josh Weiss and Jack Goldberg
"All the years combine, they melt into a dream." Happy birthday Jerry, and happy Jerry week 2020! On this special episode of the Cover Brothers and with the help of Josh Weiss and Jack Goldberg, we consider 5 of our favorite Jerry Garcia cover songs. We discuss Jerry's early years, banjo playing, and traditional music like Shady Grove. We rock out to a classic blues cover of Let It Rock and discuss the pressing question of is Jerry a blues guitarist. We get experimental and a little chaotic in our discussion on Death Don't Have No Mercy. We pay our respects during our discussion of the always heartbreaking Dylan classic Knockin' On Heaven's Door. Finally, we let our freak flags fly while discussing the quintessential Grateful Dead song and cover, Morning Dew. With a few honorable mentions, and some very Jerry inspired discussions on how to appreciate music, the role of influence on covers, and of course our favorite Grateful Dead eras and albums, this is a "jam packed" (pun intended) episode all in celebration of the life of Jerry Garcia.

The Cover Brothers
"Gallows Pole" - With Special Guest Jack Goldberg
"Couldn't get no silver, couldn't get no gold, you know that we're too damn poor." On this episode, the Cover Brothers sit down with musician Jack Goldberg to discuss the traditional folk/blues song "Gallows Pole." Though the song has been passed down for generations, the Bro's discuss one of its earliest known recordings by famous blues/folk musician Leadbelly, as well as how 2 rock covers from Led Zeppelin and Neil Young & Crazy Horse brought out the best (and worst) of the song's true meaning. They end the episode with a discussion on what it means to "own" a traditional song such as Gallows Pole.
