Welcome to podcast The Connection. My name is Maurits van Rees, founder of this podcast where I will share the connections I see between personal development, science and technology as well as many other fields. My goal is to challenge the status quo hoping to inspire and connect, but also to disrupt existing frameworks of thinking needed to grow as individuals and society. Every week on sunday evening, I will upload one episode about a certain topic or an interview with a guest speaker in a specific field (e.g. scientists, business persons, artists, athletes) to dive into their background.

#7 How To Use Your Talent&Gifts To Turn Your Ideas & Dreams Into a Reality

In this special episode, I am interviewing my own mentor for 5 years now: Maurice van der Weele. He shares his experience of more than 20 years of experience in coaching his clients. Thereby, he gives his wisdom about how to use your talent more efficiently with his universal applicable techniques and shares the difference between a talent and a gift.

For me, after my depressive period one year ago (next week online) Maurice was and still is somebody I highly value as a person. This episode contains conceptual thinking, the difference between a talent and a gift (and how to use both), psychology, eastern 5000 years old (!) wisdom, what inspiration really is and means, and so much more..

#6 Interview about Augmented Intelligence with former CTO of IBM Benelux Gerard Smit

Artificial intelligence (AI) and related technologies are increasingly prevalent in business and society, and are beginning to be applied to healthcare. These technologies have the potential to transform many aspects of patient care, surgery and medical treatments. Besides these new developments, what kind of qualities does a person need to flourish in this new information/imagination age? Will creativity and imagination become the primary creators of economic value? Why is “moonshot thinking” important to apply to your new business model? And the most important question: why do we need AI in order to support humans in order to thrive in a more data-driven world? In this episode, techno humanist, former CTO and distinguished engineer of IBM Gerard Smit will answer all those questions and gives his view on why we need technology and how it will assist humanity in the future. Furthermore, he shares technological and scientific developments happening right now and at the end of this episode you will begin seeing the bigger (technological) picture of AI and its impact on the world.

#5 On the Quantum Mind Theory and My View on Identity Shifting

The nature of consciousness remains deeply mysterious and profoundly important, with existential, medical and spiritual implication. We know what it is like to be conscious – to have awareness, a conscious ‘mind’, but who, or what, are ‘we’ who know such things? How is the subjective nature of phenomenal experience – our ‘inner life’ - to be explained in scientific terms? In this episode, I will share and explain the concept of the Quantum Mind which is taken into 2 different Theories of Consiousness: the Implicit and Explicit order of David Bohm (Physicist, Nobel Prize Winner and friend of Einstein) and the Orchestrated Objective Reduction Theory of Roger Penrose (Physicist, Nobel Prize Winner and friend of Stephen Hawking) and Stuart Hameroff (MD). Thereby, I will give my view on why shifting your Identity is the best way to changing your personal reality and how to imply this in your own life. Enjoy listening to this episode and see description below for some background reading:

#4 On The Science Of The Wim Hof Method

What if we have the power to access parts of our brain previously thought to be inaccesable? What if we can improve the quality of our immune system and strengthen our cardiouvascular system as well? What if you could alter and modulate your perception of pain and maybe even your experience of it? If we would be able to deal better with auto immune deases and maybe even prevent or heal it? How would that feel? What kind of power would that bring to our lifes and that of others as well? I am really stunned to tell you today about the science and benefits of the Wim Hof Method, founded by Wim Hof also known as the iceman. Wim has been known for his groundbreaking world records as climbing the mount Everest just in his shorts, running half of a marathon barefoot in the cold and swimming under the ice of the North Pole. Today I will dive into the scientific research of the Wim Hof Method, how to do this method and the benefits of it. Now lets get this brand new episode started!

#3 The Power of Flow States, Intuition and Stillness

The  mental state of 'flow' is one of the most common used terms in the  (athletic) performance field and every person on earth has felt this feeling. It is the source of the greatest achievements in science,  artistic work and sport performance. In any of these events we feel  unusually energized and focused. Our minds become completely absorbed in  the taste before us. This intense concentration sparks all kind of  ideas-out of nowhere, as if springing from our unconscious. In this  episode, I will to explain the importance on how to use your intuition more and cultivate stillness in order to access this altered state of consciousness. Thereby, I will  share with you scientific background on this phenomena in which  scientists used subjective (STER) and objective (Heart Rate Coherence  and Brain Wave Measurements) parameters to predict when a certain person  'got into the zone'. Enjoy listening to the first episode of my own  content!
