"The thing about racist is that you have to believe that you are smarter.
To to be racist, you must believe that you are smarter and God loves you more
You have to be religious but also believe that God has favourites." - KG Mokgadi
In this episode of The Best Medicine, Dr. Riaad Moosa is joined by comedian KG Mokgadi and Doctor Musaed Abrahams for a thought-provoking and hilarious conversation about the recent wave of racism surfacing on social media. They unpack the bizarre narrative pushed by AfriForum, Elon Musk, and even the U.S. government about so-called “140+ race based laws” in South Africa. Riaad also reflects on his Twitter feud with Olympic swimmer Roland Schoeman and the role of propaganda in shaping public perception.
KG shares his unique perspective on why racism is ultimately a tool of the super-wealthy to manipulate people, and the two discuss how these narratives play out geopolitically. They also explore the importance of a strong military for Africa, the absurdity of “white genocide” claims, and how South Africa keeps moving forward despite the noise.
On a lighter note, KG gives an update on his fitness journey, Riaad tests out AI-generated jokes, and they both dive into the comedic process—how finding the right details can make a joke truly resonate.
Plus, Riaad shares details about his upcoming show What’s the Point?, running in Johannesburg after Ramadan. Get your tickets at Webtickets (avoid scalpers!), support the podcast on Patreon, and enjoy this deep yet entertaining conversation.
Creativity is healing, but can it also be a business? In this episode of The Best Medicine, I talk to Dr. Musaed Abrahams, a doctor who walked the unconventional path, exploring digital health, wellness, and his own creative instincts. We dive into the psychology of taking risks, the power of storytelling in medicine and comedy, and how childhood interests shape adult careers. Plus, we reflect on family expectations, personal reinvention, and whether the ‘normal path’ is ever enough. This episode is about following instincts, challenging norms, and embracing your creative side—wherever it may lead.
It's February 2025 and I'm really starting this thing...for my health and yours. Let's Laugh and learn.
This is Part 2 of the Palestine Israel Solution. I’m using the metaphor of Health and Disease to try and clarify the best solution or treatment plan for the horrific events unfolding in Gaza. The Palestine Israel situation is heart breaking. The things that I've seen on video are so unbelievably cruel, nightmarish and evil that it's almost inconceivable that this type of thing can still be allowed to happen in 2023.
I'd like to express my thoughts, but I'd like take a SOLUTION-orientated approach. This podcast is about finding solutions to problems and finding some comedy along the way...I'm not sure how much comedy I'll find... but I'm going to tackle this from an unusual angle.
I'm going to treat this whole Palestine-Israel issue like a multisystem disease...like a doctor. Look at the whole situation like my patient.
I'm going to discuss the presenting complaint, take a history, offer a differential diagnosis, do an examination, special investigations, more detailed diagnoses and finally offer a management plan.
Hopefully by the end of this we can find the healthiest way to approach this seemingly insurmountable problem, using the principles of medicine, health and wellness.
We are all part of humanity, and I believe that is where the solution lies...
This is part one...
I caught up with comedian, breakdancer, artist, actor and all around creative guy Ambrose Uren to talk about his latest standup show, African-ish. We talk about his comedy journey and how it feels to be performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. I'm finally finding a direction to this podcast which I've ultimately decided is a wellness podcast that incorporates comedy and creativity into multidisciplinary healing. But I'm not sure I'll feel the same next week after the push ups and pull ups that I plan to do. I decided to focus on wellness only after I chatted to Ambrose, so I neglected to ask him about his approach to health and wellness in any way. Anyways, improvement for next week...
I know it's been a long time since episode 5, but I've got great excuses! My kids got Mumps, Viral menigitis and I've been editing my new comedy special called Voices in my Head...I talk about this and I chat to young comedian Keenan Cerff who is a perfect example of a comedian who converts his real life trauma trauma into jokes. I mean his first time on stage he spoke about how he witnessed a double "necklacing". Great fodder for humour...people getting tyres around their necks set alight and watching them get burnt up...comedy gold...Hectic Brah!
