Ashes on the Mountain with Anthony Klubi and Brandon Roth
We welcome two hardcore mountain hunters to the podcast — Anthony Klubi and Brandon Roth. These guys have been grinding it out in sheep country for the better part of a decade, yet the elusive ram has always slipped through their fingers. That changed this year. After an early-season hunt that came up short on harvest but full of lessons, Anthony and Brandon laced up their boots once again and pushed back into the mountains in pursuit of a mature Stone’s ram. 179 kilometres on foot and fifteen days in the field later — persistence finally paid off.But this story is more than just miles and mountains.Earlier in the year, Anthony lost his grandfather and chose to carry his ashes with him into the alpine. The emotional weight of that journey — combined with the unspoken question of who would take the shot if the opportunity presented itself (neither had ever harvested a ram) — could have made for a tense situation.Instead, it revealed the strength of true hunting brotherhood.Anthony and Brandon walk us through that pivotal moment — and how it unfolded with respect, humility, and friendship. The result? A heavy, dark-caped ram worthy of any sheep hunter’s dreams. This story will make you laugh, pause, and quite possibly wipe away a tear. It’s one for the books.Presented by: SITKA GearSupported by: Frontiersmen Gear, Gunwerks, OnX Maps, Precision Optics, Schnee’s, Stone Glacier, Wild TV, YETI, and Zeiss

From Sturgeon to Bighorns: The Impact of the Jurassic Classic
The Wild Sheep Jurassic Classic is truly an experience like no other. This past August, 56 conservation-minded anglers joined us on the Fraser River to raise funds for wild sheep. Beyond the camaraderie, fresh air, and world-class sturgeon fishing, the event is about something bigger—coming together to celebrate and support our wild sheep resource.Over the years, the Jurassic Classic has generated more than half a million dollars for wild sheep conservation, with a major focus on the Fraser River California Bighorn project. These efforts have played a pivotal role in restoring Bighorns just a few hundred miles upstream. In this episode, we sit down with Colin Peters and James Mitton, both deeply involved in making this fundraiser a success. With three Wild Sheep Society Directors also on the cast, we share a behind-the-scenes look at what’s ahead for the Society over the coming months—offering listeners a sneak peek into the latest conservation initiatives underway.Presented by: SITKA Gear Supported by: Frontiersmen Gear, Gunwerks, OnX Maps, Precision Optics, Schnee’s, Stone Glacier, Wild TV, YETI, and Zeiss

The Real Winner - Arizona Wild Sheep with Keith Balfourd
Talk is Sheep welcomes Keith Balfourd, Director of Marketing and Communications for the Wild Sheep Foundation, to the podcast. A seasoned veteran in the conservation community, Keith has been deeply involved in numerous fundraising initiatives that benefit wild sheep and other wildlife species. In this episode, Keith discusses the Wild Sheep Foundation’s support of the 2025–2026 Arizona Game and Fish Commission Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep Raffle Tag. Every dollar raised through this raffle will go directly to the Arizona Game & Fish Department Habitat Partnership Committee, furthering their mission to steward and protect the state’s wild sheep populations. When it comes to managing a high-demand, limited-opportunity species like wild sheep, license sales alone aren’t enough—unless each tag costs tens of thousands of dollars. That’s why wildlife agencies offer special auction and raffle tags, which generate critical funding for conservation. Without these supplemental funds, there would simply be fewer sheep on the mountain.Keith and Kyle explore the world of conservation permits and how fundraising models are evolving. The Wild Sheep Foundation continues to support this important raffle, even as the Arizona Game and Fish Department has moved away from auction permits—an act that underscores the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to wild sheep and conservation. Thanks to funds raised from auction and raffle tags, Arizona has seen bighorn sheep hunting opportunities grow from just 44 tags in 1984 to 156 tags in 2024—a clear testament to the power of sportsmen-led conservation. While entering the raffle may be a personal decision, your participation supports a cause far greater than any individual—Arizona’s wild sheep. That’s the true spirit of conservation. To enter for a chance to win this coveted tag, visit: https://wildsheep.fanthem.io/give/sheep/online-raffles/bhs?referralCode=talkissheep (https://wildsheep.fanthem.io/give/sheep/online-raffles/bhs?referralCode=talkissheep)Talk Is Sheep is the official podcast of the Wild Sheep Society of BC.
