We had differing attitudes going into this movie. We both WANTED it to be good, but Wil was a little more convinced that it WOULD be good. And turns out, he was mostly right! Fantastic Four First Steps was pretty good indeed. We picked its nits a little bit in this episode, but we largely had a good time. It’s a little annoying that the MCU still feels listless now six years after End Game, but this might be the first real signs of life.



As we mention, we have liked a handful of the movies and think history will be kind to this period in hindsight, but we’re cautiously optimistic for the future and excited to see what Marvel Studios cooks up after a long break.

Late to the party? Fashionably late, I’d say. I wizard arrives precisely when he means to… OK it just took a while for Wil to get in line and watch Sinners because we wanted to react to it, okay?! Anyway here we are, just a boy and a girl, standing in front of an audience of people on the internet, telling them what a great movie Sinners is. Is this description the rantings of someone whose mind is long lost? Who’s to say…

Is the MCU back?! We hope so, but Thunderbolts* was still a little shaky. We did enjoy quite a bit of it though. How can you deny Florence and David’s chemistry? This movie was successful off their backs alone, and had a couple fun supporting cast that gave it a nice little jolt. It does feel like Marvel is in a mad dash to get Downey and the Russo’s back though, which for us is quite a gamble.



What did you think of Thunderbolts*? Is this Marvel getting themselves back on track or is it another swing and a miss? Surely there isn’t anybody out there that thinks this is a bigger miss than Captain America Brave New World, is there? Please no… Let us know how you’re feeling in the comments! Spoiler alert, we sorta loved this dreary old thing! We stan Robert Eggers and he delivered pretty big here. The STAR though was Lily-Rose Depp. What a powerhouse performance!

After 5 years of struggling, Marvel has finally put out a movie we can call GREAT again. Deadpool and Wolverine has delivered on almost everything we wanted and more. There were twists and turns, cameos we didn’t see coming, great action, powerful emotion, and a sense of finality for many Fox movie acquired by Disney to just be left to rot. We loved it! Hear why in the episode!

Twilight holds a very special place in our hearts. Rachel and Kristin both love the books. And despite the many criticisms, they really enjoy the movies as well. Sometimes in ways the filmmakers didn’t intend, but often it pushes past its weirdness and is just good. There’s a LOT in this one that is just straight up weird though, and we get into it DEEP.

TWILIGHT BREAKING DAWN PART 1 SHOWNOTES!

Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate! And for the Americans in the room, I hope you are reconciling with our countries very troubled past! We just like the excuse to eat some delicious food.



Our Thanksgiving tradition returns this week with Muppets From Space! Up until this point, our Muppets for Thanksgiving tradition has been really fun. However, From Space is uhhh… inconsistent. Weird you might say. And not in the fun way that all the other Muppet properties are weird. We go into detail in the episode, so hop on in! We still had fun watching it, it just was sort of unexpectedly one of the lesser Muppet projects.

MUPPETS FROM SPACE SHOWNOTES!

The Marvels has long been on everyone’s radar. It was announced forever ago, and we’ve had two TV shows come and go introducing characters that star in it. So why was no one excited about this film? And why wasn’t it better than it was?



Well we explore that and more on this episode. The Marvels is the culmination of all the mistakes Marvel and Disney has made since Endgame. It feigns connectivity by bringing in characters from the shows, but it doesn’t use them very well. And it doesn’t address really any ramifications of their actions. It was a fun movie, yeah, but The Marvels is just another CGI mess with a boring villain easily digested and forgotten about.



What did you think of The Marvels? We know it’s been kind of divisive. And to be clear, we liked it alright, but it wasn’t good. We think pretty objectively it wasn’t good. That doesn’t mean we didn’t like it or you shouldn’t like it. But you can like something and recognize its faults. Art and life are not as binary as the internet would have you believe. It’s finally here! Our most anticipated movie of the year has arrived and it DELIVERED! Greta Gerwig’s Barbie not only lived up to our expectations but blew them away. It was everything we didn’t know we wanted.

OK so we’re revisiting Titanic today, and yes it is in the forefront of our minds because of the unqualified tragedy of the Oceangate submersible. However, we are day oners for this movie, with about ten theater viewings between us. We love it, we’ve always loved it, we’re always going to love it. Is it perfect? Probably not. But as far as broad blockbusters go it’s not too far off.



Are you guys big Titanic fans? The movie or the event, either works. And we know that being a “fan” of the event doesn’t mean you’re happy it happened, just that you find it interesting. We’re cool. Sound off in the comments!







TITANIC SHOWNOTES!

It is finally here! We’ve been talking about it for SO DANG LONG! But finally we get to see Rob Marshall’s live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, the Disney animated classic from 1989. The lead up to this was sort of strange for us. On one hand, mermaids are Wil’s favorite thing… like ever. And the original film is beloved in the group. On the other hand, the Disney live-action machine hasn’t cranked out a ton of winners, and neither has Rob Marshall. So we were excited about the toys, but skeptical about the movie.



Fortunately we were pleasantly surprised! The Little Mermaid (2023) wasn’t a revelation, and it wasn’t as interesting as it could have or should have been, BUT (big but) it was really solid for what it was. Cinderella still remains top of our Disney remake list, but this is a strong second. We still really think they need to get away from the “nature documentary” approach they established with The Lion King, and boy were the dresses (or lack thereof) disappointing. Aside from those gripes though, and the fact that it was too dark, we liked it a lot. Hear us get DEEP into the specifics on today’s episode!

THE LITTLE MERMAID SHOWNOTES!

OK so warning at the top, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has a lot of animal torture in it. Obviously it’s not “real” but we do talk about it, it did impact our opinion of the movie, and we wanted you to know in case you’re sensitive to that kind of thing (spoilers, we are).



The movie as a whole was alright, but we really couldn’t divorce it from all the animal stuff. It really dragged the movie down in a way that wasn’t very interesting or necessary.



Ultimately we did like where the Guardians themselves wound up by the end, but it was a long road. What did you think? Did seeing Rocket get tortured help you understand him? We really liked Marvel and their MCU before phase 4. Like REALLY were into it. You can see behind us so many collectible figures from the films, and many videos of us lauding these movies. But phase 4 has been tough and now that somehow we’ve officially started phase 5 it’s getting tougher. Find out all our thoughts on Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania in the episode.

Teen Wolf the Movie is FINALLY here! We have always loved Teen Wolf and have been wanting SOMETHING to scratch that itch since it went off the air after six seasons. What better way to satisfy Teen Wolf fans than with more Teen Wolf!



And of course we really loved it! It’s not like “good”, but we liked the part where all the characters we liked were back on screen together again. That’s really all it needed to do, but it also gave us a couple new characters and some interesting and fun story arcs. It also provided some uh… interesting special effects! Overall we just straight up had a good time.

FAVORITE MOVIES FROM 2022 SHOWNOTES!

This is something we didn’t think we were going to do. Kristin watched the first season of Emily in Paris when it came out and to put it lightly it did not land for her. And then we wrote it off. But season 2 came and went and a season 3 got announced. Rachel on a whim decided to dive in from the start and could not shut it off, in a hate-watching sort of way.



After that, Kristin followed suit and they had so much fun crapping on it pretty much constantly that they just decided to sit down and maybe make a couple dollars off it. So be warned, there’s a lot of Emily in Paris slander in this episode. If you legitimately love the show and the characters in it then this may not be the place for you. But if you like basking in a trainwreck of human garbage then join us. We will for sure be back for season 4.
