S7 E12 - Creative Living, with Francessca O'Donnell
It is with great delight that I welcome Francessca O'Donnell to the Self Podcast.
For so many of you listening Miss Francessca will need no introduction - which is a good thing, because sometimes someones energy is a difficult thing to put into words, particuarly when they have had such a great impact on your life.

For those that don't know her, you are in for a real treat. (If you love treats that provide both warm comfort and colourful inspiration simultaneously).

Enjoy stepping into her mind in this episode where we speak on creative thinking, creative doing and creative living! There is not one aspect of the creative prism that we do not hit in this conversation.

I hope it leaves you feeling re-energised and ready for life.

Thank you Tahlia for your wisdom and storytelling. Let's do again soon my friend.

S7 E10 - Go Left
Anyone else feel totally not okay with the invisible expecations placed on us once in a relationship?

Like, you MUST share a bed with that person for the rest of your life otherwise your relationship isn't okay. Or YOU MUST HAVE CHILDREN. Living in seperate homes as a long term couple?... avoidance issues! Seeking pleasure and sexual experiences outside of your couple? Is there is something wrong with you? And NEVER have extended time alone, are you insane??? Also, it is completely frowned apon to ever have kindred friendships with those of the same sex. YOU ARE IN A COUPLE NOW, aka yet another jail created by society.

It's time to get out. Think big. Go left... sounds political. It's not....Or is it? (It's all very criptic this season with these titles, so happy to have you along for the ride).
Bottom line : it's time to rebel a bit. A least in thought, and then maybe action if it feels right.

These rules as to how we must show up in our romantic relationships, specifically as women, is tiresome. Grab your rubber and let's erase these edges. Time to go for what feels right.

S7 E9 - Safety, with Millie Mickle
In my 7 seasons offering this podcast there have been a handful special episodes that I felt over-joyed and proud to publish. This conversation is right up there with that crowd, not because it is joyful - but because it is very important.

I am grateful to be joined by my friend Millie Mickle in this episode, discussing the sensitive topics of domestic violence (DV for short) and feeling safe within a relationship.

I want to share with you, our listeners, that Millie and I have had conversations about our intention of language used within this episode. We acknowledge that this could be a really hard conversation to listen to, and our last intention is to heighten your nervous system.

Thank you for trusting us to share this conversation as we strive to be intentionally soft, speaking on a very strong topic. Its really important that we all listen to this, regardless of gender, to understand how our world is currently moving and be learn to be conscious of our environments, circumstances and options.

Please share with every woman you know.

S7 E8 - Relevance
In the social narrative construct of which women and relevance are concered, let'e be real: society views (consicously or not) the following statements to be true;
Women are relevant only when something is to be gained from them.
Women are only relevant if they squish into tiny boxes that make society feel more comfortable.
Women are less relevant as they age.

The above statements can not be argued in my opinion, they are facts within our societal landscape. They are also unconsciously (and sometimes very consciously) accepted.

But they are not the truth.
Far from the truth, beloved woman.

So join me, in this solo episode as I pick apart these narratives and together we strive to remember, and inwardly action, the truth.

S7 E7 - Transitions, with Jacqueline Alexander
This week we welcome to the podcast my dear friend, Jacqueline Alexander!

Difficult to extract prominent touch stones, this conversation is one big melting pot of dialogue around embracing change internally and externally, and cheering yourself on for dancing (not marching.. no thanks) to the beat of your own drum! And of course all of the above is in relation to women, because this season of the SELF podcast is dedicated to the woman!

Because she is everything.

Love love loved recording this episode with Jacqueline.
Hope you enjoy.

This week, we welcome my sister Ellen on the pod!

As well as many little shared throwbacks into our years spent together as kids our conversation touch stones are;
  • Ellen's childhood experiences with ADHD
  • The history and stigma of ADHD
  • Knowing limits, and how one can learn to accept and express them comfortably
  • Ellen's journey of self acceptance
  • Masking
  • Strengths of a neurodivergent brain
I loved recording this episode with El, and I really hope you enjoy listening.

S7 E5 - Conflict In Friendships, with Kristina Gorgievska
Don't you think it's wild how normalised (healthy) conflict is in romantic relationships, yet when it comes to our friendships, it's barely spoken about, let alone thought of as a positive quality.

Here to do some debunking and storytelling is my bestie, Kristina.
Within this episode we share an example of conflict we moved through in our friendship as well as our opinions on how female centred friendships in particular can benefit from some healthy conflict from time to time.

S7 E4 - Control
Up until the 1970's the words 'controlling' and 'woman' were never used in conjuction with one another.
In this episode we take a look back to that time to see what caused the word 'control' to be not only gendered, but thought of as a negative quality.

Oh, prepared to be outraged.

Conversation markers:

  • Present day example that prompted this conversation
  • The narrative on control and the histroy behind its shift in meaning
  • Understanding what might make someone controlling
  • POSITIVES OF CONTROL
Leaving you with the opportunity to get reflective on your own bias (rather what you have been taught!!) and how you can begin to think more positive about that healthy drive within you to be heard, and create impact or influence.

S7 E2 - Mothers Through The Generations, with Pauline Chapman
Okay so I have already abandoned my initial intention of one world punchy titles for this season - but thats okay, no rules here and anyway I could not sum up this convo in one word.

Super pumped to offer the first episode of our story telling season with a conversation on Mothers through the generations with my Mum, Pauline.

Our conversation blooms around four major conversation points:
  • Differences of Mothering in 1954 (my Grandmother), 1989 (my Mother) and 2022 (me). Think expectations, support, co-parenting, education and lifestyle in all 3 generations. We came across some alarming parallels.
  • Learning to advocate for yourself as a (human being and) Mother in your relationship.
  • Gender roles and their expiration date.
  • Respecting Women, respecting Mothers.

Please note there are themes of Domestic Violence spoken about in this episode.

That my friends, is being seen - and there is no better feeling.

For both the adult and child in you, enjoy today's episode as we talk around the 7 different ways human beings learn - and I am sure as the world evolves different ways of learning will be added to this list! Bring it on.
