In this week's episode, we look at 3 innovative companies who are using existing technology and data such as satellite imagery, CCTV and even just Whatsapp to quickly build new products and help the industry solve problems.
These are all businesses I met at UKREiiF 2024 and have not yet had the chance to try them but thought their approaches were worth sharing.

LLMs can generate life-like images and deep fakes, indiscernable from the real thing. Why, therefore, can it not generate useful floor plans?
In this episode, we explore the difference between the AI powering many of the real estate AI tools and the AI powering LLMs.
Why are they different? And how actually do LLMs help the more traditional AI tools?

Will AI reduce an investor’s competitive edge?
This is one of the questions I have been fearfully asked a few times recently. Normally when people see the potential to use generative AI to design logical building layouts.
If everyone uses it, does everyone design the same the thing? Does everyone then bid the same price?

A restaurant’s kitchen is effectively an on-site production unit, right? Could other retail spaces have on-site production in the future? And how would developers and investors have to change the way we design and shape our retail spaces to accomodate this?
Vivo Barefoot are looking to do this with the launch of their AI-enabled on-site custom scan-to-print concept: Vivo Biome. They’re compostable to boot! If this becomes a reality, and spreads to other products, it could profoundly change the way our retail units are designed (again ). More on-site production units, more ultra urban warehouses required.
Bespoke production could become the (affordable) norm. More Savile Row, less “stack em high, sell em cheap”.
It’s not a panacea: 3D printing does not work well for many materials; what if you want to return it?; it’s unlikely to produce the variety we’ve become used to with traditional models; unlikely to be cheaper than mass-production for a long time and so on.
However, it’s a step forward (ehem) in the right direction. Many organisations are working on similar things. However, as Vivo are a mostly vertically integrated company (more like Apple than Dell), I think they have the level of control which makes it more likely to happen.

In this episode we look beneath the surface of recent reports stating that AI will take 300 million jobs to understand the real risks (and potential benefits) for the industry.
This episode is a recording of a live event titled "An Intro to AI in Real Estate" held in April 2023. The evening consisted of a panel discussion between three experts building AI, investing in AI and using AI within the real estate context. If you couldn't make it on the night, I hope you enjoy!
In this episode,s we explore some easy ways to integrate AI into your work today to make your life easier and more efficient. In this episode we look at how AI can speed up our use of excel, help us with mundane tasks like writing location descriptions and creating basic renders of buildings. DISCLAIMER: I expect this episode to age very badly! I hope that in 6 months, AI adoption will be so much deeper that everyone will be using it all the time and that this episode will sound as stupid as "how to use Google in your everyday real estate work" however, for now (in March 2023) adoption still feels low and I'm keen to spread the word!
How is deep learning different from machine learning in general? In this episode we discuss why we believe it's the key for AI and real estate to work together and make meaningful change...
