Home Design in the Hamptons | Architect Tom Kligerman
Made in the Hamptons host Jill Laurence chats with Tom Kligerman, an architect who loves pushing tradition and history forward. He’s a “modernist at heart” with a deep love for architectural history  and travel with  journeys around the world including a recent trip to India. Kligerman’s adventures in architecture began at Columbia University studying with Robert A. M. Stern, followed by a Master of Architecture from Yale School of Architecture. Returning to New York, he spent seven years working with Stern, became partner at renowned firm Ike Kligerman Barkley and now his own at Kligerman AD, all the while pushing architectural history into a visual conversation about historical modernism. He has a new book called Shingle and Stone and currently is working on several homes in the Hamptons that range from a  new build to a historical renovation of home once owned by the Carnegie family. Our conversation begins with merging old and new to the inspiration behind his trademark shingle style design, so please enjoy my conversation with Tom Kligerman! Home in Sag Harbor | Steven Gambrel
Today’s guest on the premier episode is New York interior designer Steven Gambrel who founded his design firm SR Gambrel in 1996 and is known for his sophisticated interiors, fusing classical design with current functionality. I am particularly inspired by his kitchen renovations and his incomparable design choices with 19th century wood frame homes in Sag Harbor, New York. I decided to ask Steven about discovering his Glover Street homes in Sag Harbor (who’s facades are on constant rotation on Instagram design circles), his love for the rich design history of this enclave, how important it is to retain the timelessness of older structures as well as the Village’s distinguished trademark style, some of his favorite summer pastimes out east as well as who he looks to for design inspiration and how to do a proper kitchen renovation that is both functional and stylish. Hope you enjoy hearing Steven’s insights as much as I did!
